Make primitive glow and shine?

Hello,

so I got a simple rectangle primitive that I want to turn into kryptonite. I already gave it a green metallic material but it dosen't glow like this http://www.pxleyes.com/images/contests/crystal/fullsize/crystal_4babd8c756356_hires.jpg for example. How do I do that?

  • That may well be post-work, not a renfer effect - at least in part.

For a nimbus like that, in real life, the light has to have something to bounce off of, such as a thin fog.  This is termed a 'volume' in studiospeak; depending on which renderer you are using, there are different solutions available as products or techniques described in forums.  You can search for 'volume' or 'volumetric lighting'.

But frankly, you will probably get a much better effect in postwork.  Which is how the movie studios do it.

In that example image, the crystal is probably being lit from an off camera spotlight shining through the crystal.  And the glow is most likely just added after the fact.
