the best thing about genesis 8 is that now genesis 3 (and already 2 and 1) will drop in price with big discount soon like there were back in winter 2016...
Still waiting gen 3 pro bundle at 15 to 27$ (mei lin, mathius, rune, etc...)
Pros:
- No inmediate need for a "Wear them all" type of product (though it would be nice for added functionality and V4 support).
- Autofitted female content looks quite nice and a lot of the time preserves style morphs.
- G3F female UV, which takes care of a lot of issues with materials.
- The expressions look much, much better by default, with HD wrinkles included in in the base figure.
- Muscularity and bending look to be quite an improvement. This and the expressions are my main siren's lure.
- Improved eyelashes and nails. That's nice.
- If you use powerpose, there's a new template for it. Huzza.
Cons:
- Poses don't work. Yet another pose converter script needed, unless someones manages a pose corrector additive pose.
- Low chance of a product like GenX and, even if it came along, unless it was a DO it wouldn't transfer HD morphs.
- The sysiphean task of, once again, gathering enough product variety to replicate the previous figure functionality (although certain base improvements and the UV make this a tad easier than it was with G3F).
- The feeling that this came out of left field and blindsided customers who were finally happy with their G3F after two years of gathering content (yes, I know this is subjective--it doesn't mean it isn't real).
- No loyalty discount. In fact, there's kind of an anti-loyalty discount, as Victoria 8 offers you the previous iterations but doesn't give you anything if you already have them.
- The dreaded shrink-wrap effect is in full force when autofitting male content or G1 content.
- Geografts can be autofitted, but they will work as conformers and lose their bones (transfer utility may take care of the bones, but they still won't replace base geometry).
- I am poor, grouchy and all this newflangled G8F thing is confusing and terryfying to my poor, age-addled brain. Get off my lawn, ye darn kids!
All in all, I am having mixed feelings about this. I don't feel the slightest advantage about being an early adopter and I was finally confident about what G3 offered me. I will probably wait and see, but I am quite miffed about all the G3 products that won't see the light of day (we all know how quickly that well will dry up). I really like some of what G8 brings to the table, I just wish it could have, somehow, been an update to G3 instead of a replacement.
Also, Kudos to Zev0 for updating Skin Builder's compatibility, it was one of the first things I checked and i am glad it will come to pass. Now, if only there was a way to do the same for morphs. And poses. And geografts. And my wallet.
Test render with G8 Starter Essentials. The skin looks really good. She's even got a few stretchmarks in all the right places. This is one of the V7 fashion poses. Just had to adjust the top of the arms a little and it worked fine, took 2 seconds.
I used one of the expressions that came in the G8 package. Very nice!
The nails look good. The eyes look a little strange, like she's been partying all night. Other than that, I really like the new improvements! I'll have to learn my away around Power Pose. Used to working with the sliders.
I loaded the Genesis MFD on both Genesis and Genesis 8. The morphs were available and worked in the parameters tab for both dresses. The one fitted to G8 also had the morphs available in the Shaping tab. The built in morphs were also available for the Shield Maiden tunic, MFD for G3F, and Time for School for G3F. I have no idea why the morphs did not show up for the previoous poster. Also, the shoes for Time for School looked good, with no distortion. Flat shoes may autofit better than heels? The alien fingers occur when you use the male clone to try and convert G8F into a G3Male, but not when you autofit G3M clothes to G8F. Anyway, from my testing, I have seen the following:
- Autofit works well on most Genesis, Genesis 2, and Genesis 3 clothes that I have. The built in morphs transfered and were available in the fitted clothes. There was minimal distortion in skirts and dresses around the pelvis, with no tears or triangles visible.
- Shorter hair that I autofitted worked well. I did not try longer hair styles.
- G3F textures worked perfectly on G8F.
- The shoulders are a lot better than in previous generations.
I have not looked closely to see how the auto muscle flexing works yet, but it sounds intrigueing. As far as people complaining that utilities, morphs, and geografts from past figures don't work on Genesis 8, that is pretty unfair since I don't think any genesis figures have been able to use prior generations utilities, morphs, or geografts out of the box. The fact that Zev0's skin builder should be compatible in the near future is actually pretty excitinng news.
Well, it's my birthday as well as Vicky's...so, I might have to pull the trigger. But, I'm still waiting to see if I get any kind of "constant buyer" discount...LOL
Vic 8 discount is SUPER BAD!! How can marketing team though about it? Free Vic 5 6 &7??? WTF, those who can/want/do buy Vic 8 already HAVE vic 5 6 & 7 !!! ALL of THEM.
Look in Account > Messages > Exclusive Offer
I still have the sliderss available in the Posing tab. I only have the essentials, but it looks to me like the PowerPose capabilities are in addition to the old ways we are used to. Mybe someone with the morph and expression packs can clarify this?
Redz figured out the PowerPose Templates download has the essentials and not the PowerPose files. I put in a ticket. Hopefully it will get updated soon.
Maybe a bit stupid question but what si really the different between g3f and g8f? Same poly same uv/texture? Maybe the expressions are more realistic but i think with the same morphs on g3f its the same. So why new figure when its just a copy from g3f?
First impressions: G8F load says, that I need to update to 4.9.4. Will do that later. G8F still works and I am impressed. Coffee first. ;-)
Here's another one of the Genesis 8 Base Female (with my shader settings).
Keep in mind that it's with my shader settings. She doesn't look that good "out of the box" imo.
Muscles and skin follow looks amazing on these poses, even in the extreme positions!
damn. i had a feeling it wouldn't as I think it's specifically for V7 and the UV's. That leaves me out for a while.
Were you trying them on the G3F clone or the base figure?
What was the reasoning behind doing the eyelashes as a separate figure? What are the advantages to that?
Here's Lydia for G3F's skin on G8F. I don't see a way to bring her morphs/shaping over, but maybe I'm missing something. This is one of the new poses. Loading up V8 next.
i liked G3F, but top of my wishlist for the following Generation was better expressions. Expressions are better, way better. thanks DAZ. One more anoying issue removed: No more HD morphs on default figure. FINAlly. did I say impressed yet?
Maybe a bit stupid question but what si really the different between g3f and g8f? Same poly same uv/texture? Maybe the expressions are more realistic but i think with the same morphs on g3f its the same. So why new figure when its just a copy from g3f?
-g3f have the clones too
-expressions are better but just morphs
+the eye technology okay is better and a bit different
-nails are just new morphs too
-default pose (necessery yes/not)
+bending nothing to say :D
-shoe fit (dont know but g3f shoe fit was really good)
-skin material is the same nothing new
the differents between all other figures is more... v4-genesis-g2-g3. Big differents. I cant understand why g8 is a new figuer and not again a charakter preset for g3f.
Firtst tests with G3 Clothes mixed with G8/V8 Stuff.... that new generation is really nice...
UrbEx 001 V8 / Trench / Linday Stuff
I think I need my memory refreshed on what Genesis 1/2/3 were at the beginning - with all the "Victoria 8 is the most backward compatible ever", but backward compatible seems to just mean Autofit.....didn't we get previous clones in autofit with the other Genesises?
Wow. That rendered fast. Same lighting and settings as the last two posts, but finished in half the time, even though she had more clothes on.
Overall first impressions:
Nope PAs made clones in the latest version for prior versions to fit the best and easiest.
https://www.daz3d.com/generation-5-legacy-shapes-for-genesis-2-female for example.
So then, WHY is V8 the "most backward compatible ever"???? Especially as people are saying the autofit choices are a bit limited, shoes still don't autofit well, and movement morphs etc are getting lost?
Same here! But no exclusive offer.
No thats just the legacy shapes it didn't contain Autofit clones.
I can't remember how many autofits clones were included with G1 but I rememer being able to Autofit generation 3 clothes to Genesis from the start - without buying anything.
hey guys, i'm a new guy and just started using daz like 3-4 days ago. I want to know if i should get victoria 8 pro bundle or not. I made a thread and people recommened me to first get familiar with daz by working with free stuff before buying anything but i was still confused as many free stuff also require you to have morphs. So i just saw victoria 8 pro bundle and i read if i get victoria 8 pro bundle i will get victoria 5,6,7 pro bundle free and victoria 8 starter bundle and other things too for free. i think if i buy victoria 8 i won't need to buy again anytime soon.
So what i want to know is if i right now just learn about daz and buy victoria like a month later will it still include other bundles or not and if i even get victoria 8 pro bundle will i still require other stuff to buy or it would be enough for now. thanks
In real ? - No, you don't.
I got the warning that 4.9.4.111+ is required. But it works well with 4.9.2.70 too.
The bonus of V5, V6, V7 pro bundles when you buy Victoria 8 Pro bundle would only be a short time for the initial sale - I doubt very very highly whether it will be an ongoing thing. It never has before. So if you want the previous generation pro bundles for free, you'll have to buy V8 pro bundle now.
However, as you said you are new, do you want to spend a lot of money right off the bat without knowing whether this is something you want to continue? If you're an artist and REALLY want to do this, then go for it. If you're still unsure whether DS is for you, then maybe not? Don't know, it's your decision.
But if you want those previous generation pro bundles for free, you'll have to buy Victoria 8 Pro bundle (which contains the Starter bundle) pretty much now.
