Hmm. I've done this in 3Ds Max, with Vray.. set the camera to 'spherical' , override FOV to 360 degrees, an set image gamma to 1. Render dimensions should be in a ratio of 2:1, eg. 3000x1500. Save image as .hdr or .exr, and .jpg, if needed..
