applying shader to single body part

Hello againg good people of the internet!

 I have a character that needs to have a silver prosthetic nose so i need to apply the silver shader to just that facial part. I can get perfect results with creating a shell around the face and making it look like real silver but don't know how to isolate the nose. Any advice on how to go about that?

  • You have two choices - you can use a mask, painted on the UV template with white for the silver area and black for the flesh, then use that in Cutout Opacity (for the Iray Uber Shader), or you can use the Geometry Editor to select the nose polygons, right-click, Geometry Assignment>Create New Surface from Selected, and then in the Parameters pane's Editor tab, under the Shell group, select all the other surfaces and set them to Off. The Geometry Editor approach is of course limited to the existing polygon edges.
