    ..ahh OK, 4 GB can handle about 50% of my finished scenes at best, so I'd still be on the slow render boat a good part of the time. Better to just keep saving up for a 1080 Ti.

    I agree I dont think it worth adding to my new system for the possibility of added heat and strain on the power supply. This is good for someone on a lower budget. My wife is fine using the onboard intel for the use she has of my old machine..

    ...crikey, I worked for years on the Intel mobile 945 my old notebook had.  However, back then, GPU rendering was still a "dream" even among the pro ranks.

    ..wow almost a "neighbour".  Didn't know you were just south of the "real" Vancouver.  I'm just south of the other one in Washingotn State.

    I use an stock NVidia 980TI (by MSI the V1 card), for Agisoft Photoscan, if you think Iray demands power try analysing a 30.000.000 point pointcloud using 250 18 Mpixel photo's at full blast......I let my card run at 83 degrees, the advised max temp of the card not even running Afterburner (sinds it conflicts witn Agisoft it seems). Now think of 28 hours processing time in a 27 degree centigrade room (do this for up to a week). Using a standaard cooler and 22 cm extra fan, that cools constantly both the CPU via a hugh cooling tower and the card. As of today no problems. If I add a second card I will update to water cooling though, just to stay on the safe side.....

    I actually sold my 980 for 300 CAD and purchased the V8 pro bundle and morphs with part of it  like I planned. Will buy more content as projects roll in that's how I have been able to sustain this hobby for the most part barely out of pocket.. Since I work I re invest it all in content and PC's. The kid was happy since it was the replacement card was sealed in a new box..Without cranking the fans my 1080ti runs at between 67 to 69 degrees on the new system..
