ThanksI have always marched to the beat of my own drummer (I know ironic in this case) I am getting a good number of commissions so it's coming in handy..
PPl on forums get technical and picky its the same on the edrum forums..
Bob, what GPU are you using? That's a really good time.
Also, be sure you switch the viewport to Iray before pressing render. And turn Opti-X on. Then run the test again, if you don't mind.

1080ti I did have it ticked
Nice. Comparing your times to other users with 1080 Ti's, it appears that the times are comparable. So the CPU is not adding anything, (which is expected for a GPU renderer like Iray). But still, 1 min 53 sec is an insane time for only 1 GPU. That goes to show how much of a beast the 1080 Ti is.
Now go put that shiny new CPU to work and do some CPU-intensive rendering...Do you have VUE? Or do you render in 3DL, Indigo, or other CPU-intensive renderers? If so, you should notice a night-and-day improvement.
(As an aside, I just upgraded my four (4) 780 Ti's to two (2) 1080 Ti's, and my render times have actually improved. 1 minute flat for me, with Opti-X on (1:45 with it off)).

Or lux rendering which I am pondering. Some indoor scenes with iray can still be quite time consuming
