Daz Studio user finds religion in Carrara
Forgive me Carrara for I have sinned. It has been more than 3 years now that I have been a DAZ user and during that time I failed to consult thee even once. It was no doubt my own arrogance but after I found DS I thought it was good and searched no more. Even after making animations in DS, I searched no more. After shamelessly purchasing you Carrara for a ridiculously low price, and putting off your installation for more than 6 months, I have finally found you!
Thank you Carrara for these are my Ten Comments regarding your best features:
- Your Bullet Rigid Body Physics Engine and Soft Body dynamics
- Your particle emitters and fountain
- Your Vertex and Spline and Metaball and Text modelers
- Your easy animation using key frames with graphs, motion paths, and physics
- Your Non-Photorealistic Renders and toon outlines
- Your terrain, oceans, plant and sky generators
- Your Replicators both standard and surface
- Your fog, clouds and fire volumetrics
- Your many import and export options, and
- Your lovely lip sync and dynamic hair
After kicking myself for days for not trying Carrara earlier, I vowed that as an act of penance I will let my fellow DS users know that thy name is Carrara, and that thee too are most good to find.
Hallelujah!

Carrara is a gem! Glad to see youpve discovered it. Daz Studio has some advantages when it comes to Daz3d related content. But in regards to everything else, Carrara is a hobbyist's delight. Fun fun!
Exactly. I have versions 5, 6, 7 and 8. I used it regularly before I ever started with DS setting up my scenes in Poser and importing into carrara. Then they made it so it was harder to import poser scenes, so I left it for awhile. I wanted to get back into it before IRAY, but now with IRAY and carrara having no genesis 3 support, I rarely touch it.

I recently discovered Carrara as well and really like it. Am working on learning to use it all effectively.

and a pain on 2 monitors
mmm I be a real sinner then I too bought it few yaers ago haven't really looked atr it either and not in a very very long time and I got it extremely cheap too if gave me the cool presents Michael Genesis 2 pro bundle and Victoria Genesis 2 Pro for free think total was less than half the cost of one bundle gave me so much and I haven't given it anything still no attention or loving
I must confess I am a lapsed Carrara user as well. I go through phases of using it for a while, liking it but somehow drifting back to Daz Studio. I really should spend some time learing to use it propertly then perhaps I won't keep getting distracted by other software. But then I should spend time learing to use Studio better as well, and Bryce...
Seeing as DAZ hasn't officially added genesis 3 support makes me wonder if they even have the source code at all any more, If they added the modelling, lighting and dynamic aspects of carrara to DS, that would be one awesome app.
I'm still thinking in a future full version of daz there will a free version that you buy and install features you want and a full paid version with all of the extras included built in which would include built in cararra/hexagon features, bryce and others as an all in one program with ability to create all your own custom content or edit content you have to compete encourage to go all daz instead of buying other creation programs or using free ones like blender
I expect that that they still have the source and can still work on it but adding support for the Genesis 3 rigging would be big project and is very low on Daz's priority list. Adding Carrara's modelling to Studio would also be a big project and I doubt that Daz would be interested, I think Studio is mainly a vehicle for selling more content.
I would rather have a bridge from Studio to Carrara than the one to Hexagon that we have got now. I have got Hexagon, I had problems with it last time I tried to use it but that was on an older computer. Hexagon is another application I should spend more time trying to learn.
I do like DS with Iray's ability to let you see the scene as it will render, but if you want to try your hand at animation, Carrara is without a doubt a better tool.
