Interestingly it does work but it's very bad, nothing that would be saleable.  The decal code would need some updates to have the eyeball geometry ignored upon request.  If you just make a white line on the template, fill the outer bits with pure black you have something that does decal onto the face.  I found for the Genesis 8 Male that these Transforms are what's needed to get it up to the eyes:

    x-translate: -0.371430

    y-translate: 171.3359

    z-rotate: 7.537709

    Scale: 84.35%

    x-scale: 67.0%

I just diffuse filled it with green so it shows up in the render...

The issue and what i would think woudldn't be the issue, is that while it's good for not being UV independent when using the UV to make the eye liner it's huge and has to be scaled and rotated to get it somewhat where it needs to be.  Too fidgety.  So if you come up with a good way to do this I'm all ears!  lol

Yes i'm afraid it's pretty tricky when you're working in an area that small, plus an expression change can knock it off completely. If i remember rightly, i13 used decals as a small logo on T-shirts (Tanning shop outfit i think?), that's the smallest i've seen them used outside of my own sets. I think they do fine for facial scars, but around the eyes/ears/nose i think the area's to work in are just too small and too active. If decals get some more love in the future though, i'll gladly take further advantage of them.

Perhaps DAZ can make new code that IS dependent on UV's but keep the code for non dependent for things like what your producing and just kill LIE which is just old, slow code!

if you have this https://www.daz3d.com/iray-decal-kit, can you use them on clothing? Do you need the clothing one https://www.daz3d.com/iray-clothing-decal-kit specifically for clothing, or does that add more options?

As far as I know, you can put any decal on any object.

thanks Barbult! I picked up the first one and then got the glassworx - could only get two (sorry @KindredArts heh heh) so wasn't sure whether to get the two decal ones if one would suffice. frown

The different decal sets are just different designs, as far as I know. KA even wrote a tutorial on making your own decals. The tricky part is positioning them. You can't see the design in the viewport unless you are in Iray Preview mode.

yep i've got his iray wound kit decals. That was a head scratcher I tell ya...until I - you know - actually READ the instructions. LOL

@jakiblue This is the second event in the past 24 hours where i've shown up and everything is already sorted. It's nice, but i'm starting to feel a bit redundant. Like a fireman at seaworld :(

Hmmm, this is very interesting... wondering how this would work for makeup's or just eyeliners?  Might be worth investigating...

Working around the eyes with decals is super tricky because the decal applies to your entire figure (minus clothing) so if you don't angle the decal right it will bleed over onto the eye. That's why i haven't done makeup yet, working around such a small area can be a bit tricky.

It might help to get the look you want with a little trial and error using cut out. You'd need Gimp, Photoshop or similar to make the cut out mask. I haven't got the Decal Kit yet as I don't have the spare spondoolies at the moment, it does seem great though, for all those maps alone. It's thanks to this product that I became aware of the Decal Node and now use it all the time. I absolutely love it and couldn't do without it. I'm here because I was wondering if one could bake the Decal, placing a LIE, or rather designing a LIE for over a seam is not easy to say the least but the Decal makes it childsplay. It would be nice to have the tatts etc load as a material though. And I was really disappointed too when I realised I couldn't use emissives, hence I want to bake the decal.

    Thanks

Not sure what you mean.  I think LIE code is just so slow.  Even published artists in various forums complain about how slow it is to navigate and set things up using that. The decal option would rely on the UV's so make up with be somehow locked into using just the face UV and so forth and so on.

Not gone, just hidden for now. They will be back with some new shaders, hopefully soon. Graffitiworx is already updated and should be back within a week or two. My tutorials above are still accurate if you're wanting to work with decals though.

...ahh thank you.  Really tired of city streets that look so clean, your characters could eat off them

  • I hate it when you remember seeing a product but then can't find it again.  Looking forward to seeing GraffitiWorx back in the store.

I used Iray Decal Kit in a render in my Gallery yesterday, and I was unable to link it in the Products Used list. It is still not back in the store. I'm OK, because I already own it, but I wondered if it is still coming back after rework? It has been over two months since we heard an update on its status. Any news?

GrattitiWorx is back. Not sure when it was put back in, but the link shows up now on the page in Product Library.

However, both Iray Decal Kit and Iray Clothing Decal Kit links are still MIA.

That's just sad. KA makes such useful products.

And it makes me glad I bought all of those when they were released!

I'd forgotten I had it. :) I would have used it yesterday if I'd remembered. :D I might rerender anyway as my render settings were default. Argh, I  thought I'd fixed that. :D
