Reliably, no. frown  It seems that the experienced official forcaster, Punxsatawney Phil the groundhog, died last year crying and they have a neophyte taking his place. indecision

Phil!! broken heart broken heartbroken heartbroken heart

he;s been there my whole life time, over 50 years

Somehow I think it's rather like Lassie...new one every now and then.  I think I read that one Lassie was actually a male.  laugh

True, but they don't get their weather forecasting skills 'till at least two years on the job.  First year's a toss up. devil

I've been to Punxsatawney.  Nice little town in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania.  Close to Punxsatawney there was (maybe still is) a piano/organ museum, a big old marvelously refurbished barn transformed into a residence/museum for pneumatic player grand pianos and player organs.  He even had a player grand piano that was pneumatically connected and synchronized to a player organ.  Throw in the right music rolls and they'd play duets. surprise  There was also a big closet filled with piano rolls in long narrow boxes, (It looked like Olivander's wand shop!!!cool) including some of the Rachmaninoff playing Rachmaninoff rolls.  heart The instrument technician who owned the place was a member of one of the motorcycle clubs I hung out with.  Unfortunately he died the next year and I don't know what ever happened to all those wonderful pianos and organs.  When I was visiting there the owner gave me permission to go and play around with all the pianos.  I was in heaven all afternoon and gave a little concert of my own trying out the different tones and timbre of the various pianos.

...well, the youngling hog got the forecast right for us here because guess what is supposed to happen (again) tomorrow?

Yep, more frozen water from the sky, possibly up to a foot's worth....

...and by Tuesday....the not so white and fluffy brand of frozen water from the sky.

C'mon Megabucks, The Kid needs to move where it is nice and warm and the only ice I have to deal with is that which goes in my drink (preferably along with with a wedge of pineapple and one of those little paper umbrellas).

Meterological Spring starts on March 1st. Astronomical Spring starts on March 20th (ie the Spring Equinox).

I thought he was made up for the Groundhog Day movie. Had no idea it was a real thing

Oh, yeah.  It's a real thing.  The town in the movie is the real place.

I live 8 miles from Jamestown, NY which has Lucy & Desi stuff everywhere downtown.  https://www.google.com/search?q=jamestown+lucy+images&biw=1920&bih=854&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjOnp2Jy_nRAhWFi1QKHd8VDYoQsAQIGQ

About 80 miles south is Punxsatawney, PA which has groundhog & "Phil" stuff everywhere downtown.  https://www.google.com/search?q=punxsutawney+pa+images&biw=1920&bih=854&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjs6_GjyfnRAhWJqVQKHbjxAr4QsAQIGQ

And even Dunkirk, NY (about 40 miles north from me) also has a prognosticating groundhog "Dunkirk Dave" http://www.dunkirkdave.com/

All three of these places are in my neighborhood. I've come to accept my fate of living amongst these people.  I can't blame them, because except for Chautauqua (for the sophisticates) https://www.google.com/search?q=chautauqua+institution+images&biw=1920&bih=854&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjvzJHdyfnRAhXHxFQKHdW-BBwQsAQIJg

there's not much else around here except dirt, cows, corn, and the Zippo lighter factory & museum (Bradford, PA) https://www.zippo.com/pages/zippo-case-museums for entertainment for the rest of the populace. devil

But there is a magnficent manure factory just down the road from me where they frequently take huge tanker trucks full of the liquified aromatic stuff out to be recycled onto the fields somewhere too nearby. frown  Ah, springtime in western NY state when the entire countryside smells like a ripe outhouse.

I am trying to figure out what to do today.  I think there is something on TV tonight but not sure.

  • hacsarthacsart Posts: 2,034

Well.. for starters - its  - 19C with a windchill of -25C, and its still snowing.. It is forecast for 25cm or more of snow to fall by tomorrow afternoon.. Some places west and south of us have the potenetial to get a metre of snow by then...

Staying in.. the roads are atrocious now, and are going to get worse.. even with good winter tires, its not worth the risk.

Happy to say we haven't gotten very much snow this year.  More than last year, for sure, but not a whole lot.  We got buried two winters ago, though.  March will not be here soon enough though.  I guess I shouldn't rush things, though.   blush  Where's the rolling eyes smilie?

I very much doubt I'll stay up till the wee small hours to watch it (although it is being shown here). Been a hectic day (we went to see the Lego Batman movie this evening - that was fun!), Gonna wind down with a beer or 2 in front of the new series of Endeavour before falling asleep on the couch . . .

Morning. Had all kinds of weather the past 48 hours, heat, fire, monsoon rains, floods, and right now unseasonally cool a little after dawn and me waering raincoat and #3 sunglasses to hedge all bets :)

Rugby balls don't have pointy ends.     Or is there something else going on apart from the 6 nations.

Why does it seem that 32 bit computers are slower than 64 bit computers?

...seems we've been getting all of it here.  So far today, just buckets of cold rain but they are still calling for about 6 inches of the white stuff beginning later this evening and overnight into tomorrow morning.  At least the freezing rain is out of the forecast for Tuesday (for now).

Yeah this time last year we were seeing daffodils, snowdrops and crocus in full bloom as well as tulips ready to bloom.  We had trees in full leaf by late March early April.  Not so this year the way things have been going.

...ah, but one of the basic spells taught in those regions is "warm self".  It's a 0 level spell all apprentices usually to learn in their first month.

I am barrowing an old 32 bit computer with only 2GB of ram.  It is slow but I am keep hoping Malwarebytes can clear up some of it.
