GenX tab missing

I've installed GenX with add-ons and I'm not seeing the GenX tab available under: Window/Panes (Tabs) >

The DIM is showing it as installed, any idea why I'm not seeing the tab available?

  • Have you entered the serial number?

Did you install the correct version of GenX for the version of DS you're running? They must match.

I did not enter a serial# as I saw no place to install the serial#. I installed through the DIM and got no prompts for serial#. It should be current version as again, I just installed through the DIM.

I just found the About Installed Plugins under the help section. It isn't registered which is probably the problem. I had looked for this panel before but couldn't find it. I don't know if it was moved since earlier versions of DAZ or I just forgot where it was but have it now. Digging up registration keys from account so this I'm guessing will solve it.

Yes, that fixed it. Now does anyone know where the manuals installed to? They are not under the read me folder.

In Windows, my GenX docs are installed here:  C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\docs\Plugins

Edit: I should have clarified: If plugins are install with DIM, the plugin docs are installed into the Daz Studio program folder within a folder named Docs\Plugins. Within the Plugins folder each plugin's docs are in their own folder.

I have plugins there but no docs

    Mine are here:
    /docs/Plugins/Genesis Generation X2/GenX2.pdf

If you installed with DIM, it should tell you where the docs were installed.

Actually on closer examination there are xml files there which when opened have two links, one to the store product page and one to the readme page in the daz documentation center. There are no manuals there however.

There is no reason this should be this hard.

The Daz Wiki-docs has a link to the manual in the Generation X2 product Documentation page:

    http://docs.daz3d.com/lib/exe/fetch.php/public/read_me/index/18321/genx2.pdf

Thanks, I didn't see that (and I did look.) I had gotten that link just before this from the help desk and am trying to sift through it now. The add-on packages mention manuals also. I'm wondering if they are just linked to this pdf or are their own.

Unfortunately the YouTube tutorials I've found are on the original Genx, not x2. They've helped but they only scratch the surface and the manual doesn't really go into how or why one would use many of the settings but rather just state 'this setting does this' in a way that only makes sense if one understood the context. When and why one would want to do x that is.

Here's the PA's official support thread for the Generation X2 update that added Genesis 3 support:

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/94881/genx2-update-genesis-3-add-on-commercial/p1

If you don't see any genesis figures (Genesis, Genesis 2 Male, Genesis 2 Female, Genesis 3 Male and/or Genesis 3 Female) when you click on the Source button, click on the "Connect Path" button and point to your Daz Connect folder.

Thank you for all of the help. I finally did get all of the products to work together. One of the issues I ended up having was finding the base "Generation X2" product to try a reinstall since all of the add-ons are "GenX" so they are not together in list view and cant be found using a common search criteria. After I found the base product I was able to get it working through uninstall/reinstall. No manuals ever did show up however so the links were my only way of getting documentation. I'm in the process of going through the documentation now.

Unfortunately, the documentation is written in a "this button does this" without any explanation of when or why one would use any of the various options available and only the initial very basic case scenario is listed. The various options under mode and select for instance, the Presets and Morphs tabs.... when/why... etc... A better explanation of when and why one would use the alternative settings along with more walkthroughs that demonstrated process/result for different options would be not only highly helpful but might make those options actually useful. As it is, without understanding a lot more about what the purpose of these options are they are useless to me and I suspect a lot of others.

Some of it might be buried in the forum thread as I'm only part way through it but as it stands it's a bit frustrating.

It also ends up there are no manuals for the add-ons as listed on the product pages, this is a misprint. There is only the manual for the base product. The manual did not install on my system but I was able to download it from the link Lindsay posted above.

Again, thanks for the help :)

As an FYI, if you install with DIM, go to the install tab and locate the installer by searching.  With the cursor over the file, right click and select "Show Installed Files" (displayed in the blue text on the left in the attached picture). Click on a file, in this example GenX2.pdf (fourth line from the bottom) and a window will open to the folder where the GenX2.pdf resides on your hard disk.

That is very helpful. I looked through the right click menu but didn't spot that. Thank you :)

where did you see your serial number? I can't find mine, only the oder number from the receipt was sent to my email.

All serial numbers are stored under My Account --Serial,Numbers. You usually don't get serial numbers through email.

  • I don't know if it will help you out any, but I have a couple of GenX experiments over on my Lab thread transferring some characters with GenX2.  They are all mostly on the first two pages.  Here is a link to the Daemones Tutorial that came out of that experiment.  Hopefully, you might find it helpful.

I leave the way to show GenX tab up after installed.

1, Check your serial number and copy from below link.

    https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/serialnumbers

2, Open installed plugin window from Help > About installed plugins.

3, Find "Genesis Generation X2" on the list.

4, Input the serial number into the column of "Registration".

5, Click "OK" button on the window.

    Same issue.

It was registered and working before.  Now it's not.  It really shouldn't be this hard.  I prep the model, get halfway through the tutorial and suddenly I have load up the DIM and hope it registers my product.  It's in my product library but isn't listed as registered in my plugins.

    Daz.  Make this easy.

  • Thanks alexandersmith

    You've done me a solid.

  • It's rather late for this, but when you open up ABOUT> MY INSTALLED PLUGINS, DAZ studio, there are slots that have the serial number already visible, but it is greyed out. Because the serial number was already present but greyed out, I didn't think I needed to copy and paste the serial number again. Hopefully, someone in need reads this before pulling his/her hair out due to a lack of definitive and conclusive instructions on the issue at hand.

  • The grey partial serial number is there to help people put the right number in the right box - if gives the opening characters, which are comon to all serial numbers for that product, followed by Xs.
