Reinstalling content

I just formatted my computer. So I downloaded Daz 4.9 (I still didn't have this update).

Now, instead of reinstalling all the 900+ products I own, I saved a backup from my previous computer. Can I just throw it in the corresponding folder and it will work?

When I start DIM again, will it identify most products were already installed? (because there were things I hadn't downloaded and installed yet, and I don't remember which ones. It would be useful if they'd show there as not yet downloaded).

What is the best way to reinstall everything? Should I just download it all?

edit: and if I throw all from my backup in daz folder, won't it have a problem with the already installed daz studio update?

  • DIM uses the files in the Manifests folder (C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DAZ 3D\Install Manager\Manfiests by default, I think) to track what is isntalled - if you have a back-up of that folder in its original palce DIM should see the list. That won't place the files in the Content Management System, but you can reimport their metadata to do so - in DS, go to the Content Library pane and open its option menu (click the lined button in the corner or right-click its tab), then select Content DB Maintenance. In the dialogue that opens check re-Import Metadata and click Accept, then click Accept in the dialogue that opens next.

Oh no, I only saved the content which was in the folder C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

I just placed it and DIM nor Daz identify my stuff as installed... (i reopened DIM and DS and re-imported metadata and nothing happened).

Is all the work I did worthless? :/ Will I have to download everything again?

You didn't, by any chance, back up the DIM download folder?

Not sure where the default is, because I told DIM a long time ago to put everything in another location...but, you can grab the current location from within DIM.

If you used default settings your download folder will be at

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads

And if you did not use default settings, just look for your InstallManager folder

Ouch, Yea I just did the same, this time though I told DIM to save the files to a Alt harddrive, (DIM's download tab)

137 GB, no reason to have those zip files on my C drive

I rarely, if ever, use DIM, because I prefer to manually manage my content library. However, for the benefit of those like taemimun who find themselves in this situation, it would seem logical to me to have an option of simply downloading the manifest files to re-populate the Manifests folder, rather than having to re-download all the content packages themselves that they already have. The manifest files might total what - a few MB? Unless I am missing something, this would seem a logical solution, and reduce the traffic on DAZ cloud servers to boot. Just a thought..

(The irony here is that, since I download and "install" all my content manually, I actually end up with copies of all the manifest files in my downloaded content .zip backups. But I don't need them since I don't use DIM.)
