I've somehow managed to change parenting behavior :-/

This is wreaking havoc with my workflow.   I have no idea what I've done to cause this.

Old, desirable behavior:

I set a null in a scene for snapping newly-loaded objects and characters.

I load something, which comes in under world coordinates.

I parent the new thing to the null.

The new thing's coordinates remap from world to become relative to the null's position.  Its movement axes become relative to the null's rotation.  But the new thing doesn't move until I move it.

New, sucky behavior:

As soon as I parent the item, it snaps directly to the null position and rotation.

Can someone please tell me what I've done, so that I can undo it and never, NEVER do it again?

Thanks!

  • It sounds as if you hae parent in Plae off now, when it was on before. It's a check-box at the bottom of the Change parent dialogue (if you are using that) or a checkable emnu item in the Scene pane option menu (if you are dragging and dropping).
