Converting clothes that require morphs?

You know, like when there's a corset for V4, and to make it fit, you have to inject the corset morph into V4. Just curious what strategies you use for this. My first guess is I'd use GenX to convert the corset morph to the target figure. But maybe someone has another method?

According to DAZ, clothing should be made to the default base shape of any generation of their figures.  In your example a morph should be made for both the corset and the V4 to get the final shape.  GenX transfers morphs between the generations of DAZ figures with the right add-ons, it is of no use for transferring to or from clothing.  Studio has a transfer active morphs function for transferring a figures morphs to its clothing.

Another thing to consider...is the 'morph' in question really a morph?

A lot of 'morphs' for items of clothing aren't morphs, but rather, are poses (thinking a lot of the ones for shoes, there) or even set parts of the figure invisible (turn off...same as using the eye in the Scene tab).  So before thinking about any kind of transfer, you'll need to figure out exactly what the morph is doing.

To me a morph is changing the SHAPE of a mesh by moving actual vertices around, regardless of what the bones/rigging is doing.  A pose is changing the POSITION of the mesh/parts of the mesh by manipulating the bones (and, of course the vertices assigned to those bones...).

  • If you are meaning V4 clothing that is modelled to fit a morphed base figure, AutoFit to another the conversion process will try to maintain the relationship between the clothign and the original figure's base shape. Using genX to transfer the morph to the new wearer will work if you go into the transferred morph's Parameter Settings (click the gear icon on the slider) and turn AutoFollow off - otherwise when you apply the corset morph DS will create a matching morph for the clothing, which will maintain the non-fit. Of course with AutoFollow off other clothing will also remain unaffected by the corset morph, even if it was amde to fit the base shape - the workaround for that would probably be to fit the clothing to a figure with the morph still set to AutoFollow, set the morph, with everythign else zeroed, hide all but the clothing, export as OBJ, then load that OBJ as a new morph for the clothing.
