I only have the above and hadto save parts ot seperatly for Section 4, but they work quite well together.
Thanks Ikyoto.
Just to be clear to anyone else reading this I should have said how do the textures look side-by-side?
Could these pieces work together without looking like a garage sale?
Depends whether you're doing Iray renders. Modular Sci-Fi Kit 1/2 still look great, but they lack the kind of photo-realistic material reflectivity the other sets have which include Iray materials. Any 3Delight renders won't be affected by that.
Without manually converting/tweaking the materials for Iray...
Thanks Xenomorphine and mjc1016. I did not even think to check if they were 3Delight or Iray specific.
I've tried using the Iray 'uber shader' thing, but it made no difference to the Iray render result. The lights don't turn emissive, etcetera. You could manually convert the materials to various custom shaders, of course, yes, but I haven't try because it seemed like that would take too long. :)
Also, there are a lot of models out there which depend on their specific included textures to give the impression of windows, decals or other features. You can CTRL + left-click to tell a shader to not replace a texture, but the end result can often be undesirable or non-existent. I haven't checked to see if that would be the case for Modular Sci-Fi Kit 1/2, however.
Of course, I think they'd be perfectly fine for renders which exclusively use them! There's jsut a marked difference in an Iray render when you're also using the other Iray-compatible sets with them.
It seems as if the new Sci-Fi Kit 2016 essentially now replaces Modular Sci-Fi Kit 1/2 for Iray purposes. I obtained it specifically because I'm doing a motion-comic projeect and, like Hjake, needed some modular corridors which would fit right in with Nova and some other sets.
I'm hoping Kindred Arts' upcoming Nostromo-like sets might achieve a very similar effect.
By default the Iray Uber has the emission properties turned off, otherwise everything it is used on will become a light. Now one thing the older sets may not have are masks that would make the lights much easier to deal with...I haven't looked (mainly because I haven't done any renders with any of them in a long time...sounds like something needs to be done about that....).
Thanks Xenomorphine and mjc1016. I appreciate the advice and it brings up another question.
Has anybody done a step by step updating your old 3Delight props and clothing to Iray tutorial?
For example the Castleguarde prop (very old Daz product) has 3Delight textures. It would be super-fantastic
awesome coolness to replace 3Delight brick textures with brick textures that were built for Iray.
(As a side note ... I just noticed mjc1016 you have 13,196 postings ... wow ... please go outside and play with your friends ...
that is some serious screen ... which I have benefitted from .... again thank you for sharing)
That's only 4 posts per day...
well for heaven's sake make sure you take a day off. :-)
