Okay. I love large city sets like Stonemason's Urban Sprawls. I have all three, and I love and use them all. But as much as I love them, I have to admit that high poly sets can be a pain to deal with in terms of wide shots, and so it would be nice to have some low-poly sets to use for resource-heavy wide shots. When I first saw the Dreamland Models movie sets, I thought that they would fit my bill quite nicely...right until I saw they were Poser only.
Uh...any chance we'll eventually see a Daz version of them? Or at least, can someone point me towards some alternatives that would fit that bill just as well?
Why are these Poser only? Does anyone have these that could test them in Daz? I know that Daz can use many Poser files so I'm confused as to why these wouldn't work in Daz.
I'm pretty new so this might be a stupid question. Any help you guys can give would be appreciated! :)
Not a stupid question. Some things don't work, some work kinda-sorta but without textures, and some work well. I wish I knew with these.
Ther very same low poly "Movie Sets" that have been sold at some store for almost 4 years now (reviews there are from 2013/01) ? Not even updated with DS materials or something ?
Just WOW. This seems SO wrong as "debut" PA releases. A PA moving a store or items to another site is one thing, but selling old stuff as new releases without a note is bad business.
Don't get me wrong, I like Dreamland Models work and have some of them, but these releases are at least disappointing during PA sale.
Dreamland has never supported DS and as these have no DS files they can't be described as DS compatible.
I do remember seeing him in forums asking about how to do his puddles on the road mats for DS, so hopefully he is going to be doing DS mats for new stuff, personally I'm delighted to see him here.
I have a few of his sets and they work in DS, I haven't tried in Iray but in 3dl they look good with a little tweaking but there are some mats that won't work, like the rain puddles.
This is a really old render but it does use his models, 3DL render.
That they're not retextured...and have a note POSER ONLY...is a rather weird "surprise"
The texture maps all work, slap on some iray uber.
yes the puddles were the issue from thread I saw but if its a dry sunny day can just turn down their opacity.
I use them like most stuff in iClone and Carrara but to get them to iClone I exported from D|S.
His stuff is splendid geometry. But the matts may need tweaking for DS. I'm very pleased to see his stuff here. And am particularly glad to finally manage to pick up the Low Poly Block #1, which I mised over on Rendo.
The asll do work rather well with some tweeking I have some of the Movie Sets: City Block 11,12,13,14,15 these ones are the higher poly count products but they do look good in Studio with a few tweeks.. Good to see them here and at a great sale price..
One thing as you notice with these products is that all the renders are all daytime renders, so would need a bit of tweeking if you want to do nighttime renders..
Yes, the puddles are an issue...and no, I still haven't come up with anything better (and I don't think the others who were trying to cook some up did, either). We tried...
Amazing models IMO - I've bought a lot in the past. A few materials need fixing in Iray, but for the most part they render very well. The "Poser Only" may come from the fact that his 'city block' idea is part of a larger framework with a large street grid and scripts for moving blocks around.
I've attached a couple of uninspired renders with minimal fixes to surfaces, rendered in Iray.

Hmm, I initially ignored these because they were Poser only, but they look quite nice.
Dreamland Models are Poser only as in "no DS materials or files included", not as in "won't work in DS at all". They can be used in DS if you're ready to adjust the materials yourself a bit.
I never tried a Poser-only product. If I install them through DIM, will they show up in DS, under Content Library -> Products, or do I need to do something manually to get them there?
Thanks!
Content Library / poser formats/ My DAZ library /props ( or scene, sometimes figure)
They seem to still be the same therefore...
Thank you! :)
Merged three threads on these sets.
His products work in Daz but since he doesn't do Daz materials (yet) he is continuing with Poser. I do know that before these were sold here they were tweaked from the older versions a bit. I'm not sure what all he tweaked but he worked very hard to get them here.
the description states they are .mc6 'materials'...which I'm pretty sure can be applied easily in DS? (i think it was the .... mt5 - if i have that correct - that wouldn't apply when you double clicked and you had to do them manually through the surface tab) but I think the mc6 ones apply on dbl click?
If htat's the only reason they are considered Poser only, and that they will at least load normally in DS and we just have to go in and fiddle with settings? I'm wondering if it's enough to just apply the default iray shader on them, or whether you have to go in and REALLY play aroudn with the surface settings....
Also, what about iray shaders? Are there lots of good material zones on the buildings so you could apply say, concrete iray shaders etc...or is each building one whole material zone where you can't separate the walls from the windows and doors and frames?
There are tons of material zones. Some sets when fully loaded have over 200 material zones. So it is easy to customize with shaders.
mc6 will appear in the library but have the same problem as any Poser material: anything using material room node will be ignored, and the few settings read will need adjustment anyway.
oh excellent, thank you! if there are that many, then perhaps with the use of shaders, they should be good. I like the idea of 'low poly' as it's easier on my system.
Thanks, though many people seem to want to argue against it, one good pic is better than a 1000 words and can lead to multiple sales. I am much more willing spend the money and take the time to fool around with something if I know it can bare fruit, rather than simply hoping that it will.
That's gorgeous, I love that!
I was looking at my list of DreamLand Model sets from RMP I made several months back (working on a project with a 1950s setting). Some of these look very similar to the ones at RMP. But I think Low Poly 01 was already not at RMP and 02 and 03 do not match up with my notes on the ones at RMP. So I think 01 - 03 are new. 04 - 09 seem similar to the ones at RMP -- not sure what if any tweaks were made for them. It would be nice to have a definitive list of changes, since I have the RMP version of 4, 5, and 7. Edit: Since these are meant for distnance renders, you may be able to skate by without tweaking the materials in DS, or just making some minor tweaks to e.g. deal with too much glossiness.
I have a question? I believe I have purchased some these dreamland sets at rendo some time ago.. are these sets going to be available for me to download in the future at daz if i need to? like what happen with RDNA, or are are my purchased downloads going to still be available at rendo. Lots of stores and artist moving and merging with daz lately its hard to keep up what content i have bought is at what store anymore.
it's kinda amusing when you think about it, often read here poser artists complaining about lack of poser content sold here which is understandable in a way from daz because thet would obviously want to concentrate on products for their product more than their competition and on the other sites that mainly sell content for poser I have not actually noticed and daz users complaining about lack of daz content maybe daz creators make the better content? ok there is some pretty good poser content out there like the daleks by mechmaster and a lot of character and creature skins I do have poser 10 but to be honest I much prefer daz and find it easier so gotta say this is a first here at least for me seeing fellow daz artists not happy about non daz versions of a poser product yeah some poser stuff will work in daz and vice versa but that's some not everything does and at that price it's a bit of a risk taking a risk even with the return option
Dreamland sets like most poser content will work fine in Daz Studio. , its just most of the new daz 4 content does not translate well to Poser users
I'm not so sure. In the Infinite insanity thread, MrPoser posted that although the CR2 loads the geometry, you would have to manually retexture these sets for Daz Studio, which could be a whole lot of extra work to make them work.
