Epsilon Bodysuit for Genesis 3 Female(s): Silly Boots

When I saw this, I was really excited and almost immediately bought it. It looks great for the kind of stuff I'm doing now. But then I noticed the silly high-heel boots. As an option, that would be great, but if you want to do an image with somebody doing space exploration and you don't want to make it pure cheesecake, than those boots are just silly. Even if I had to pay a bit extra to get the boots morphed into flats with some texture on the soles, I'd do that. But right now, because the boots look fairly integrated into the whole outfit, if I bought this, I'd really be buying it for the helmet and hoping I could use it with something else. This makes me sad.

Let's face it, the vast majority of shoes on DAZ outfits are completely illogical for their chosen purpose and it's one of the main reasons the site has a rep as being focused on grist for girlie-pictures rather than a serious art resource. All you can really do is swap in a pair of boots from a different outfit and matching it with shaders or photoshop, or, worse case scenario, use a bodysuit moprh on the actual foot.  Or just never show the feet.

  • Ya the high heels with all of the outfits really bothers me too.  Some are borderline usable but I mostly just swap them out for something more practical.  Sadly, there are time when the boots kill the whole deal for me as well.  Which is a shame. I don't think its that easy to give an option to remove the heels as that will completely change the structure of the bottom of the boot

You bring up a really good point.  The high heels fetish really ruins a lot of basically good costumes if you're wanting to do semi-realistic settings.  I'm of the mind that the heels should be an option like tattoos or something.  A lot of people would probably buy items that they passed on if the choice was there to eliminate the ridiculous heels.

Wonder what the g3m version shoes would look like.

I suspect that PAs think stuff with high heels sell more (and probably does), so they put high heels on everything. But I wonder if anybody would pass on an outfit like this (which has full coverage and doesn't work well for sexed-up pics) if it had functional soles? People will definitely pass on it for having high heels. My guess is PAs leave money on the table when the make more practical-/action-focused outfits but use high heels for the footwear.
  • I have certainly turned down plenty of otherwise useful outfits because of the high heels.

I'd amend that to "they leave a larger chunk of money."  I WILL buy an outfit with lousy shoes (or no shoes at all, as has been becoming more common), but I'll only buy it when it becomes cheap enough to offset the work I'll have to do. For a lot of the outfits these days, that means I don't seriously even consider buying them until they hit the $6 price range, and even then it's likely that the items with better shoes that are still going to get the priority.

I have passed a lot of items, pose sets and animations/aniblocks because they only had the high heel option. I know I can fix the poses fairly easily but if you buy something you don't like they just think you want more of it.

And on that note, something else that's a major pain is how many pose sets only come with the high heel option.  Feet don't normally assume that position unless they're being unnaturally restrained by foreign objects, and the typical DAZ heel is a lot higher than most women would wear under most situations.

Absolutely. Not only are they not realistic, to me, they don't achieve the effect of being alluring. Instead, unless the woman is wearing shoes for it, it just looks like the person doing the posing didn't finish the job.

The boots bothered me - but the BIG issue with this (and so many other futuristic outfits) is a full helmet with no apparent source of breathable air.

Ironically, you don't actually need a tank of air, just a souce of oxygen, so these tankless suits are probably MORE accurate than ones with tanks.  We tend to think of a tank of compressed or liquid gas, but there are also options like rebreather technology that cracks the oxygen back out of exhaled Co2 or the possibility of storing oxygen as part of a solid or lliquid compound.  This isn't uber-futuristic tech.  The main system on the International Space Station strips oxygen out of water via simple electrolysis, while the emergency oxygen systems on both the station and most commercial planes actually work by burning oxygen candles composed of compounds like barium peroxide, sodium chlorate or potassium chlorate.  It's quite likely that future tech would have refined and miniaturized these processes to the point where the whole operation could be done within the helmet itself.

  • The chest armor was the first thing I noticed on the set. Heels are a nuisance and I just don't buy sets which have them but I'm not a fan of the pectoral armor here either.

there's a WHOLE range of DazOriginal "fantasy" outfits that not only look the same, but have high heeled boots/shoes that I pass on. And a lot of them are hard to use with a different pair of low soled boots because the stupid pants finish at the knee or thigh, instead of going down to the ankles (or at the very least, the low part of the shins)

Stiletto/high heeled shoes/boots with fantasy or sci fi genre outfits are something that people regularly scream about in the forums. But they keep happening.

I like  doing "cheesy pinup" stuff - But even when it's a 'fantasy' or 'sci fi' type "sexy pinup" that i'm doing, (the type with completely impractical armour) I want lower soled boots/shoes, not the high heeled stuff, because it looks even MORE ridiculous.

And I do own some of the genesis/genesis 2 outfits like this unfortunately - because I had to use up my PC coupon and a DO is the cheapest thing to use it on, and I liked perhaps the top or the bolero jacket or even a sword prop...but I never use the full outfit.

Given the current knowledge of the laws of physics and chemistry, there needs to be some supply of makeup oxygen and/or energy. I'm not talking honking big tanks - but there needs to be a fanny pack, shoulder pack, or belt/chest pack to hold the arc reactor and a block of solid oxygen or some similar source. It doesn't need to be big, but it needs to look integrated with the outfit.

Flat boots for women are so rare that I've actually bought outfits just to get them, like my latest purchase: Adventure Girl Outfit for Genesis 3 Female(s)

I can use the boots and pants with other tops, as I won't use such a skimpy top on an explorer. Except maybe as underwear. But how do I tell PAs that I bought this in spite of the "smexy", and not because of it?

I've passed on many outfits that I would have otherwise bought because of impractical nonsense like spikes. It's just one more thing that weighs in my buying decisions.

I guess the fetish crowd has more money to spend than folks with more vanilla tastes.

Or it can be distributed across the interior surface of the suit.  And, of course, that assumes that this is being used as a space suit and not simply a hostile environment suit.  What is interesting is that there does seem to be some kind of venting system on the sides of the helmet.   I found a fairly decent thread on almost exactly this subject here http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=674555 ; that covers the basic math, and the "pocketed" areas on this suit would be sufficient for the honeycomb network described in one of the posts.

I've made posts, and started threads about it in the past; nothing has changed. All you can do is not buy, or if you bought return stating why. Cash talks far more eloquently than lucid and reasoned posts ever will.

Agreed, especially if - like the MFD - textures for the "new" Epsilon could be used with the M4 model. It's a good sci-fi spacesuit that would work well for both male and females. I'm really surprised that it was never updated for any of the Genesis figures. A new version of the old Epsilon is something I'd buy because it would remove some of the headaches of fitting clothing intended for an older figure onto a newer one, and it would also extend the utility of the original product.

I would have bought it instead of the g2f poses I got, but for the heeled sneakers. I woul at least like the option of high heel or NOT on sneakers! They look good in real life because of the way thy make a person's legs and glutes flex, but in themselves are seriously impractical.

  • Gotta say it does get annoying to see outfits that are otherwise practical ruined by putting ridiculously high heels on them. What's sad is how it happens in every genre even when it makes even less sense than normal fashions. I'm sorry but nobody in a post apocalypse is going to wander the wasteland in six inch stilleto heels. It's hard enough walking in our normal world with those.

At least in a space suit thing, one can do zero-g poses to kinda justify it, but the high heels still look ridiculous.

Slap some greebles on the heels and claim they are electro-magnetic for when in zero G.

Which still doesn't explain the foot arch.  There's just no sane logic behind the idea of an element on a environmental suit that intentionally constrains natural movement, causes stress on the bone structure, induces fatigue and inhibits blood flow.  Of course, high heels in general are incredibly bad for one's health, both in the short and long term, and that hasn't stopped women from wearing them.  So, I don't doubt that when spacesuits for the personal market are eventually developed, some idiot will try to market high-heeled versions and we'll invent yet another new set of dumb ways to die.

While I am a huge advocate for more heels, I have to admit, the ones on the suit in mention from the OP, do look off with this spacesuit.

  • outrider42outrider42 Posts: 3,679

Well, at least in space the weight of her body on her heels wont be a problem! Am I right???

Kidding aside, its totally ridiculous. This twisted obsession for heels to go with everything just needs to stop. Please. Its in so many pose packs, too. Its freakin' impossible to find "normal" people poses around here sometimes. I am not against heels competely, they have their place. But that place is not everywhere.

And its funny, because there is a discussion in another thread talking about that "Poser stigma." Stuff like this...isn't helping.
