Well, I don't usually, because I go to a lot of events with free alcohol or on dates where the guy pays :) but yeah wine here (LA) is usually between $8.00-$11.00 plus tip...
I appreciate that this year there isn't the push to have to buy everything on the first day of release to get the main discount. I'd just as soon not be making purchases *every* day that I see something I like, even with a GC. Being able to wait for the next day is not a hardship.
+1
Phew! It's gonna be a long month... lol
As for the wine, my husband and I spent a night at the Crater Lake Lodge, (about 16 years ago.) Dinner was included, but we had to pay extra for drinks and appetizers. Hubby bought a bottle of wine for $17.95. The next day, we found the same wine in the Crater Lake gift shop for $12.95, and a few hours later, in a small store off the highway for $6.99... And a day or two after that, we found a local grocer who was selling it for $5.49.
Moral of the story? Ambience is expensive!
Some actually say there are a resource; I returned a figure recently as I have enough of that one, and it was not that different to others; I went and checked.
I was recently changing a character and realised when I was altering it, that I had the merchant resource used to create at least parts of it; I've seen mirrored effects on textures, really off-putting. Another the nipples were perfectly round, and hardly blended into the skin - I returned this product - and don't think I've bought any more of this PA's.
Merchant resources are great, if time is taken to create something new - adding a few freckles and moles doesn't cut it imo.
A $10 glass of wine takes a lot of time to produce. It takes time to age, and then there is the skill in blending when it isn't a vintage (not to mention storing and looking after the various products used to in the blending); then we have the various transport and packaging costs, so not a good analogy imo.
I despise that punch card and BOGO witchcraft. I'm not even a big fan of the more items you buy the cheaper they become. I want a nice price on the things I need without any strings attached.
Mmmmh, my only question is why Nefertiti over Bastet (to keep with the Egyptian animal god theme)... but Midnight_Stories makes awesome stuff so it's ultimately negligible. Those wings on Horus, tho'. Amazing!
SickleYield. They said on DeviantArt a while back that they won't have anything new for the PA sale this year. Which kinda makes me sad (they've been the only vendor to consistently make stuff that I'll buy without a second thought or giving any care about the preview images), but I totally understand why.
I think what SickleYield said was that her bigger projects wouldn't be done in time for the PA Sale, but she would try to get some smaller stuff done for it if she could.
Well, this got me very curious (repeated use of same skin merchant resource), so I took an inventory of my small library of G3M skins. My methodology was to load G3M, apply each skin, and render the left hand under the same lighting conditions. What do you know. I have several skins that obviously stem from the same MR. I'm not saying this is "bad". That is what a merchant resource is for - making other skins to sell. Two of the skins using the same resource are a couple of my favorites. But I usually render portraits, and the face textures have been modified from the resource. I hadn't noticed until this experiment, that the hands seem to be exactly the same as the original resource, with only recoloring differences.
This is what I found in my library:
I, too, see nothing that makes me want to spend money, at this point.
I won't be using Terradome, nor laldies/ladieswear. I use octane, so no need for iray stuff. I, personally, dislike tats and unusual skins and, as for the "mega fast grab", it'll probably come up as a PC+ freebie.
So, is there any carry over for purchases today as discounts the next? I don't see it anywhere on the pages, but I have heard a few people mention it in the forums. I know there was the Star thing, but I'm talking about stuff in the "New or Still new" category of the sale.
This sale is pretty straight forward. Your discount for new items is based on quantity in the cart at time of purchase, and only applies to new releases still being featured on this sales page. Going by past history, you have three days to make up your mind on any given new item, including the day of release.
With a "Debut" or "Still New" release in your cart, you will get 75% off items in the Mega Fast Grab and 60% off back catalog items of the Feature Artists. Without a qualifying new release, the Mega Fast Grab is 65%, and Feature Artists' back catalogs discount is based on quantity.
None of the discounts "carry over" to the next day.
Again, going by past history, the Feature Artists are those with new items featured on the page, when their item rotates off, their catalog will no longer be discounted; Many, if not all, the Mega Fast Grab items will be from the catalogs of the Featured Artists and will change daily along with the rotation of Featured Artists. Last year, the "daily sale," whatever it was called, also included a few items from some shops not featured.
Does this help?
Yep. That's about what I thought. I just kept seeing suggestions that there might be more to it than what I was seeing in the banners.
Agree on the Nefertiti, wasn't she a Princess, as opposed to a god?
Nefertiti was the wife of the 'heretic' Pharoah Akhenaten, who tried to replace the myriad Egyptian pantheon with a single god, the Aten, depicted as the disk of the sun with rays ending with hands reaching downwards. They were possibly Tutankhamun's parents. Tutankhamun was originally called Tutankhaten which translates as 'Living Image of the Aten' but when he came to power he changed to Tutankhamun, which is 'Living Image of Amun'. Amun being one of the major gods from the old pantheon.
There was also the similarly named Nefertari, the wife of Pharoah Rameses II.
Nefer was the Egyptian word for beauty so it featured in many royal names.
I added her on the end, So no she's not a god, but I thought a female was needed. Isis wings were only half modeled and I had to redo my new Lycan so time got away from me. I knew you guys would pick up on it !!!
@L'adair said : "Seems like DAZ just can't win."
I agree with a sigh, and recognition of my natural human progression though this way-cool 3D adventure.
As a long-time dazaholic, how much can they do to keep 'us' 'verteran customers' intrigued? Tough work for any marketting dept., and probably not a winnable battle: keeping happy us old-timers who have seen most of the crazy and inventive marketting efforts over the years. I'm not sure we are the best target for their investment/effort, when there are new customers who still see the gloss/shine/potential of this whole 3D world the way we (I) used to ("I gotta have that! I could do a cool scene where ...) These new folks are at the early accumulation phase of their 3D adventures, and have no idea how many 'modern apartments' have been produced and sold, or how many 'sexy pose sets' have come before. This is reality, as much as I'd like to re-see the shine again, it's not a practical hope. Don't get me wrong, as this activity drives most of my life right now, as it's amazing and infinite, but I can only get excited by so many pose sets, especially as I've learned how build/convert my own as I better learn the tools.
Would I market to me? Maybe a little bit, but not like I'd market to the new users.
Bottom-line, I look, I pick up deals when I find 'em, but at some point, expecting the creative energies at DAZ marketting to keep kindling the fire of my excitement has an inevitable law of diminishing returns in world where newness naturally wears off, and where I've now got one or more versions most of what they're selling today, most of it unused-to-date. (but the plans I have!)
But that's just me, and I'm not going to complain when they don't chase me any more. Neither will the pretty girls and/or boys chase the old codgers at the malls, either... The personal economics don't pan out.
Practially speaking, I still have a buck to spend and here are a few thoughts for those at DAZ marketing who may care:
I hate the stacking/punching/... cumulative 'games' that some folks apparently love. Having to load my cart with everything to find the cost isn't fun-enough for me to bother. Again, I don't 'need' much anymore.
As a 'saturated' collector, the 'buy this to get a discount on that' model doesn't work for me much either, but that's because I usually don't need the 'new' item anymore. If I do want a new item anyway, the appeal is obviously higher.
I do tend to like the short-term deep discounted flash sales (I happen to respond well to urgency, but don't tell DAZ), but the discount has to be pretty deep to keep me checking back. Fast Grab is evil :)
Practically-free bundles and super-discounted theme sales are an easy win for me, but that's because I like giveaways, which is what they really are... and DAZ can't really make much of a business with those unless they can get some serious bulk, or get us to sneak a few high-margin items in the basket at the same time.
I go back and forth on the clubs (PC+). It can't be argued that they are a good deal, but they inspire unneeded spending (therapy), and that's fun, but expensive... sigh.
All-in-all, if a new user were complaining about the nature of the DAZ sales being stale, I'd take note as a marketting dept. When 'saturated' collectors do the same, I'd offer them sympathy, and a few 'gimmees' at best, but I don't think the problem is the marketting efforts anymore. It's the reality of customers naturally getting a bit jaded, and trying to stay excited about something we're bound to get used to. Things simply can't stay 'new'.
Best to all,
--ms
For me personally, 40-50% off is the sweet spot for new-ish content. Older content at 65%-75% is probably okay too, which DAZ has done well with the super fast-grab.
I believe DAZ is also delineating the content between the PA store and the super fast-grab too, which is a super smart way to ensure that prices are consistent depending on generation/year released...
Agreed, but with the caveat: There are still many things that, if offered, would attract the jaded buyer, but the perception is that the market is small. You can see quite a few suggestions in the "Product Suggestions" section of the forums.
More normal clothing and accessories for figures that we already have, like G1 and G2. Suburbs to match the cities. Normal, everyday things that we can use to add that touch of realism that MacLean is so good at. Food, prepared and unprepared. Half eaten. That sort of thing. I would kill for model train components.
The response from PAs seems to be too much labor, not enough reward. Sexy sells better than anything else. But look at how well Terra is doing.
I'm not just jaded, I'm kind of burned out. Tired of a world of sex, violence and fantasy.
