The PA sale is one sale I have always looked forward to, but this time around it just seems to be the same as any of the daily sales we've had...1 item for 40%, 2 for 50%, artists catalogue 40 to 60% off. We've had this same type of sale day in and day out for ever, I thought the PA event would be a new and exciting kind of sale, whether it be the punch cards, bogo, etc. I know lots of people didn't like those particular types of sales but I was still hoping for something new, fun and exciting to look forward to everyday, so seeing as this is only day 2 I hope there is some type of brilliant sales coming to give this special sale a new twist.

Consider that until about 2 1/2 years ago, there were no BOGs, punch cards, etc. The average sale was only 30% off, period, and the PA Sale and March Madness were both 50% off, which made them the Big Sales of the year. The later Punch Card type sales just didn't seem to get most people excited, and turned out to be a marketing misstep. So yeah, this 40/50/60% off will (odds are) stay the pattern for the forseeable future.
its just seems so disappointing to look forward to a big promotional sale when its exactly the same as the daily sales we have been having but maybe there will be some crazy twists thrown in at the end of each week or bi weekly
There are some PAs that don't go on sale too often (maybe never?). It's nice to see their stuff discounted at this time of year.
Back in the day, (pre-Genesis), they had great sales for March Madness. They would release around two or three products a day with deep discounts and if you bought that you got and extra percentage off the next day's products. Prices usually ended up averaging around $3.00 and there was a lot of excitement in the forum as members would gather every morning with their cup of coffee waiting for the new items to be released. (Now those same products are sometimes freebies or in deep sales for under a dollar LOL). Then everyone would render and discuss the pros and cons of every item. It was kind of a fun event. When Genesis arrived, not usable in Poser at the time, it caused so much controversy in the forums, all the fun was sucked out of everything. So glad things are back to the way they were. There are actually some great prices on the grab bag stuff, I got one thing for 90 cents and the prices for TD2 stuff was great since I use Poser. Haha, we finally win out on something! LOL, just kidding, I use DS now too as well as Poser, got stuff for BOTH Terradomes!
That's the thing, in order to get the most out of these sales you have to really think it thru and have a plan on what to add to the cart from different places to maximize the stacking deals. I know it sucks at times and seems like too much work, but that is the reality now. I stopped looking forward to the PA sales year before last. I rememeber when I used to look forward to the PA sales becaue it was the one time a year when everything from all PAs would be 50% off and I knew I could get a deal. Then we started having flash sales and blink sales and fastgrab and then the PA sales started with the stacking crap and I just went with the flow of the store and not really looking forward to or anticipating anything. But now we are jaded because we get really deep discounts more often than not and 50% off just doesn't cut it in most cases for many which is sad for vendors.
I have a few things in my wishlist I will probably pick up and hopefully some cool new things will pop up, but yeah, it's just september for me
Seems like DAZ just can't win. Remember last year when they tried a different kind of punch card sale, where you had to buy at least one item a day to get the maximum discount and keep it, there was so much complaining, they switched to something else. (I think it was 40%/50%/60% for 1/2/3 new items a day. It's hard to remember because I was one of those who got a flat discount for the rest of the sale...) Anyway, the next time they did a punch card sale, the punches didn't expire... That wasn't too bad.
I'd love to see something fantastical with the PA sale. It really does seem like the same old sales tactics, perhaps because DAZ used our feedback the past 11 months to come up with something they thought we'd all like! lol... As I said, poor DAZ just can't win.
To be honest, their offerings so far haven't tempted me to spend any money. Which is probably a good thing. There are a few things coming out I want to be able to afford. The fewer new bright shiney objects I buy before then, the more likely I'll be able to get what I'm waiting for!

Would be sweet to see a preview post of what new items we have to look forward to. I remember when they used to have one of those for the new launch of a vicky or michael figure.
I'm spending enough as it is, thanks. I've been waiting a while for a version of Terradome I can use. Since I got the 50% off discount and 60% off the artists stores and an extra 10% off for buying Star, I have no reason to complain. If you didn't want Terradome though, day 1 would have been dissappointing. Frankly I do like this setup better than Punch cards, you end up buying a lot of stuff you really didn't want much in order to get discounts. This way you get to be more choosy.
I kind of like the less complicated sales. I hate the punch sales so this suits me just fine
Yes, it suits me so far, too. I can be a lot more selective and just get the things I really want which is good. I really need to spend less money right now.
I haven't bought anything yet though. Been spending my dinero at other sites.
Less complicated is good yes, but the PA sale is to showcase the PA's and possibly purchase from some who's items you haven't used before at a great discount so that in the future you would say " hey that PA's stuff was really good, I want more of their stuff" hence the PA has recruited a new buyer...when the prices during the PA sale are the same as you have been getting any old day of the week I don't see any reason to buy now during this event cause it's going to be the same sale price next month or the month after, the ones to look for are the PA's whose products aren't on sale very often as someone else mentioned. It would be a fun twist to do something that isn't the normal daily sales, but not necessarily the punch card thing or bogo, just something a little different from what we see every day.
I haven't bought anything yet. Which is actually a good thing, especially if Lilith 7 is released next week *fingers crossed*
I actually don't mind the punch card concept, as long as the punches don't expire. They could keep the sale as it is, and add a punch feature, where with enough punches, you could get one item free... Kind of like the punch card at your favorite coffee shop. There could be a graduated discount scale, too, starting at, say 5 punches, where you can get one item at 50% off; 6 punches, 55%; 7 punches, 60%, and so on up to 14 punches at 95% and 15 punches gets the item free. Then have a page of products those discounts can be used towards, but make those items some of the most popular new releases of 2016, and have at least 100 items to choose from. Only one item gets the discount, not everything you can load up your cart with, and the discount stacks for DOs... That would add a bit of excitement, I think, without leaving people feeling like it's impossible to meet the requirements.
But I have to agree, this sale just doesn't have the pizzazz I'd expect from one of the "Big Three" sales of the year...
Can you imagine how disappointing it is to look forward to products you make for a big event sale and then have no one notice anything but that there is a sale? Not excitment about the products just vexation that the higher than normal discount is not what people would like. And yes, I have seen that expressed when brand new products were being sold with a discount of 65% so even a huge discount doesn't please everyone. I know for a fact that it saps the spirt to create for those sales from some PA's.
September and October are both big "event" sale months. First the PA sale and then the PC+ Anniversary (which traditionally goes through a number of different phases, sometimes, but not always, themed).
They are also both 4 Tuesday months, so we may not get paired new female/male DAZ base figures during either of them. Not that I have any kind of inside info, so I could be 180 degrees wrong.
November is another 5-Tuesday month, with no traditional sale event attached to it (any more. PA sale used to be November), so would be a reasonable time to suspect a new "pair" of releases.
December is traditionally the PA freebie month -- along with a nice lot of new releases. Not a special sale, iirc, but nice stuff.
@Khory, I'm not sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing with me, but I have been around these forums for 10 years or so on and off, and I have always logged in for the "Special events" PA, PC sales and march madness and I have seen different types of sales marketing in each one. If I was a newcomer to Daz in the last couple months I wouldn't have known a difference between the sales we've been having and the PA sale, I just think the PA sale should be something different and unique where the PA's can showcase their products in an environment where they would attract new and old buyers and the customers would know this is a special one time a year event, I don't think having the same type of sale for this as the daily/weekly sales does the PA's justice, I actually enjoyed sales like the punch card, it was different, unique, and said "Hey shoppers this is a big event" and really drew attention to the PA's stores and let them shine.
I know there were lots of complaints about those other types of sales, but it's nice to do something a lot different once in a while, it's not like those types of sales are permanent
The only thing I've seen so far that I like and might pick up after I get paid is the newest item by Yura, but I'm with Serene Night in that my money is kinda hovering to other sites at the moment, especially since I'm finding they have more of what I'm looking for these days (i.e. pose sets, interiors, props) if I look past all the stuff I'm not interested in. XP
Sadly, my favorite PA isn't going to have anything in the sale this year, so that's another reason for me to kinda just check in every couple of days. :/ Maybe some of their stuff will end up in the Mega Grab sale.
I LOVE the Terradome stuff, but I don't really have a need for it. Maybe one day? I would have bought the StoneMason room when it was released, but I know how these sales tend to cost me...and...I don't REALLY need another bedroom set...at least...not yet? :)
Who is it that won't be featured? I have one particular item that I'm really hoping to grab...hopefully that will go on sale!
Hmm. So far, not particularly enthused, but the week is still young.
I love colm's lighting sets which are superior but I admit I don't care for terradome. It looks kind of video gamish to me and doesn't have the realism I like. The surfaces of the ground in some of the expansions are just the kind of ground I try to avoid rendering- tiled looking and flat and well repetitive. Hills look treeless round and odd. The renders I've seen haven't impressed me. I don't do a lot of outdoors stuff, but when I do I have other sets I prefer. I guess I'm not feeling terradome. I know people like it, but I don't.
I used to buy Yura's stuff constantly but the textures on the content have never worked for me. Way too plastic looking, and belts and such which clip and twist, not to mention grenades and such that bend. Clothing which shines like plastic. I won't buy anymore until I hear that that has improved. The models sometimes look okay, but the textures make the sets unusuable. I really had to stop buying it, because I get disappointed. I like the theme... But not the execution.
Male characters with thin eyebrows I don't need, especially stuff using the growing up resource which I already have plenty of sets sold at other places which use that same resource.
Repeat skins are used a lot for men's content and I just can't shell out the dough for the same skin, especially when it looks so similar to other content already being sold.
I'm curious how you determine what skin resource was used. Can you explain your detective technique?
I have to agree with OP. I've only been here about five months but this PA sale was something I was looking forward to as people said it was pretty good. But honestly it seams kind of "same ol' same ol" to me too. Having said that though, this is only DAY TWO. And I've not really been that interested in the Terradome 2 stuff (since I don't use Poser) and I'm kind of on the fence about Terradome 3 - and those two things plus their add-ons seams to be the vast majority of what's in the megagrab and featured sales. So I'm very hopeful that it will get better once they start adding other things - things I'll be more interested in, I'm sure.
This is just the start, it's just ramping up. I have hope (and believe) that it will get a lot better as the month goes on. However I do hope there are some oportunities for stacking sales as the month goes on. Right now the max discount that we can get with this PA sale isn't as good as we've been able to get in the past with "regular" sales and stacking discounts.
As divamakeup says - this is only day two, and day one, FWIW, was mostly DOs, not PA items (not that I didn't land on terradome 3 and the add-ons with both feet . . .) So think of these first couple of days as pre-sales, hopefully clearing the decks for the barn-busters to come.
I am pretty sure it will indeed ramp up. This is just the beginning. Since this upcoming weekend is a holiday in the states, and usually sales and stuff don't run into holiday I'm not sure things will heat up until tuesday of next week, but I would love to be wrong.
I, too, am not buying the Terradome, so the first days of the sale are not enticing to me personally as that was the focus. I agree with Kharma that the sale is fairly routine, but I'm happy to see some dudes in the mix. Not sure whose genius idea it was to start this at the end of the month instead of on the first, when people get paid- that's rather inconsiderate for all those people DAZ promised a discount to "for the first three days" of this sale, if they bought the more expensive bundle. (Which I didnt.)
I'm enjoying the mega fast grab stuff, nothing in my cart over $5.00, mostly in the $2.00-$4.00 range... The regular PA stuff was mostly $7.18, not bad... I'm going to be broke by day three though. Stocking up now to take advantage of the extra 10% from the Star bundle and I have a feeling some of the PAs will be repeats because they will have contributed to other debut or whatever they're calling it items. To put everything in perspective I bought a bottle of Drano today, it was $8.00 and literally money down the drain. I would have rather spent that on 3D content... One glass of wine is $10.00, you drink it and it's gone, at least with 3D content you have something you can use (although it can be years before you use it because you have so much content, you forget you even have it LOL.)
You pay $10 for a glass of wine!? Whao... lol (o.O)
Nothing fancy today
Well, my wallet is safe ... for now
I don't see any stacking on the sales so it must be staight discount sale !
