Differences Between V4, V4.2 & Genesis 2
There is no differences between Victoria 4 and 4.2, they use old Poser format rigging. Genesis 2 Female is the base female for DAZ's sixth generation figures, the Genesis and Genesis 2s use newer TriAx weightmap rigging that was developed by DAZ. Victoria 6 is a morph for G2F.
Tween Julie 7Could not install Tween Julie via Daz Connect... she was entirely missing in my Install bin. However, she shows up in DIM.
I like the fantasy outfit. I wonder how it looks on an adult figure. Is it out of place? Sure. But that's the magic of Genesis 3, isn't it? It would be fabulous on Victoria, Mei Lin, etc.
The male counterpart could also have one of those, "Thanks for buying Xyz 7. Here's an extra 10% off the male guy 7" banner ads for select addicts/customers.
Differences Between V4, V4.2 & Genesis 2What are the differences between Victoria 4, Victoria 4.2 & Genesis 2?
Problems with Girl 4Girl 4 relies on you having Victoria 4 installed.
Confused with all the figures names: Genesis, Victoria...DAZ has a few "main" characters that have remained through various generations. Victoria, Michael, Stephanie, etc. Each new generation has a number: Victoria 1, Victoria 2, Victoria 3, Victoria 4, etc. Sometimes DAZ introduces a new character that will "jumpstart" the Generation number. David 3, David 5 are examples. David didn't have a version 1, 2 or 4. David might not go beyond David 5.
Genesis arrived, and we saw a "dual designation" for characters. Victoria 5 is a Genesis "generation 1" character. Victoria 6 is a Genesis 2 Female. David 5 is Genesis "generation 1." Again we see a "generation leap" with some characters. Lee 6, Scott 6. There were no previous versions. Move on to Genesis 3. We have Victoria 7, Michael 7, Ivan 7, etc.

Only if the new grouping did the same function as the Blue Highlight did - I can't get group::new to do anything at all in the Beta, and I can't see it working for non-Daz content like the Blue Highlight did. Flagging all the related folders in the tree made it very easy for me to quickly find and catagorise new purchases from here and elsewhere. So all I can see these changes as is a serious backward step.
The group new doesn't work for me either.... I WANT it to work, I want Smart content to make my new stuff easy to find but it just doesn't. I really really want it to. Sadly the one thing that worked the best for me is gone. I understand the reasoning behind it and I understand that you can't please everyone and that's okay. But it was truly the one thing that always worked the best for me to find my new stuff.
I use dim to see what I should be looking for; on the rare occasions I can't find something; I have a folder that I can install it to, see where it is then put it in Daz's Library. Not quite as quick as the blue highlights, but I found them to be annoying at times, so while useful, I can live without 'em.
Daz Connect only search filterI can understand that. My main concern is that (for example) I was creating new metadata for a 3rd party product that required Elite Body shapes for Victoria 4, although that requirement was not listed on the product page, I received an error because using the script resulted in it looking for the Utopian body shape. Needless to say when I went looking for the product in DC, it did not come up as an option anywhere! It wasn't until I fired up the DIM that I was able to locate it. Leaving me to question: that eventhough I prefer the DC, what other kinds of content am I missing out on because they only shows in the DIM!?
Also, last time I brought this up with the 1st inception of the DIM, a daz developer told me it was a good idea to be able to filter items in the product library, so they created filters to use! I am hoping maybe lightning can strike twice?

This is a temporary product, after a week it vanishes (which seems a bit odd). Anyway that could be why it is missing a DAZ Connect option.

What does any of it have to do with October? I'm so confused.
I think I can answer the last question: October - Halloween - Vampires ...
As for the poses: they are DIM and manual download only, no connect - so they probably are the vanishing product.

Warning: New Purchases May Not Work With DAZ Studio 4.8If microsoft offered a new version of windows and olders programs did not work in it, what happens now?
People would complain, that is what would happen. Sure, a business can refuse to offer any discount or support for previous versions, but that would not go over so well. Are you suggesting that given the chance you would create software for Windows 10, and exclude all previous versions of Windows from your testing? Because that just does not seem very sound as a business practice to me. Again, you could do that, there is no law against it, but customers would rip you to shreds in reviews. Perhaps I am the only person who feels that way, but for some crazy reason I think I am not alone. Just look up any PC game that is exclusive to Windows 10...if you can find one. And that in spite of the fact that Windows 10 brings many improvements, like DirectX 12, to the table. But you will not see any game developer besides MS themselves creating games exclusive to 10, and there is a very good reason for that. And I say this even though I am one of the few (it seems) who is perfectly happy with Windows 10.
When I say install multiple versions, I mean on the same computer. It seems you can't do that unless you have a beta.
I would still love to see the install base numbers of how many are on older versions. You can argue against their reasons, but you cannot argue against their wallets. I think it would be a bad idea to release a product for 4.9 that excludes previous versions entirely. Again, 4.8 was up to date just a few months ago. Its not like its ancient.
But what I want to see most is the versions of Daz a product works for. There are Victoria 4 items from 2009 that show ONLY 4.9 in their compatibilty. That's absurd, and moreover, as one just mentioned, it highly unlikely they actually tested to see if it worked in 4.9. Is this request too much to ask for? Like Measure Metrics. I bought that ealier this year. Then one day I accidently updated MM in DIM. It quit working, because now MM works in 4.9, but NOT 4.8. Bad move on my part! I had to send in a support ticket to get it straightened out. And what is totally insane, the support email actually asked me to "keep quiet" about the solution we came up with. WHAT?????? Why does that have to be a secret? I got something to work in 4.8, but its a secret!
RULERS OF EGYPT wont run Victoria and Michael baseI attempted to place clothing for Rulers of Egypt and its add-ons, but they do not fit. So I took another look at the promotion page, and noticed the Rulers of Egypt is compatible with victoria and michael 1 and 2.
...I have Victoria 4.2 and V3 and M3 and M4
I searched for 1 and 2, but failed to locate them online.
I want to use the Rulers of Egypt packages, how to I get them fitting a character? Is there a 1 and 2 base for V and M?
...a morph that wil work? I haven't located V1 or V2 (m1 or M2) yet.
questionwhen they put up new daily stuff or weekend stuff like the michial and victoria 4 stuff sale intill it rotates off does sales like that or the 3 and 4 dollar v4 and m4 stuff rotate off at once or do one go and the other go because i uaully buy stuff right before it goes off and trying to figure out if i need to buy stuff from christmas in july trying to figure out of the two before it rotates out togeather or do i have to wate two days before that rotates out
Why I chose this character, over that one...Some of us like "She's got freckles!" though. I read that way faster than noting every detail in a file list or even (I know this makes no sense) from looking at images. I don't want to read a novel or anything, but simple descriptions like "hey this is a freckle based on Victoria but shes super pale! She has special, I don't know, triangle nail morphs!" is super helpful for me at least.
That'll make descriptions easier then for me at least :D
Honestly, we all struggle with descriptions. It really hard to be your own copy writer. I do great work with other people's stuff and all I can say for my own products is...
Lyoness is a sweet and lovely girl for Genesis 3 Female. So I copy and paste my generic description of what is included, updating it for each particular product.
I should add that I totally understand that many creators aren't native English speaking - but what I really find shocking with errors is that Daz isn't double checking any of it. I got the impression they wanted to put on a more professional image than other stores (maybe I was wrong?) and that kind of thing matters.
They do double check, but like with everything, stuff gets missed. If I had a dollar for every error I find when reading novels, I'd be... well, I might be able to support my 3D habit ;) When it's pointed out, they're usually quick to fix/update.
Yes. I just had to request a change this week. It happens and we try to fix it as soon as we discover it.

Why I chose this character, over that one...This is an excellent example of how not to do it in my book. Character looks interesting, but the skin is hidden too much, and the sales 'blurb'... well it's very economical.

I must admit the eyes and lips put me off, but I could get past those if the above wasn't also a factor.
***
I'm curious; do PA's get advice on the blurb, what and how much to write?
Short answer, not really. But Daz is very helpful when we ask for advice :D I'd like to point out that's TwiztedMetal's first release here at Daz (Welcome!!!). The submission process is very different here than at those other brokerages, and there are a few things that take a little getting used to. The character is an Aiko so I would guess definitely leaning towards the toon style on purpose. TwiztedMetal does a lot of fun and funky makeups/styles for their characters, and they don't stick to toon styles. Most of the ones I've seen by them at another store would fall under realistic with glam options. Lots of fun stuff.
The big thing with the blurbs is it's pretty much *the* last thing we do on a project. We've done the modeling/morphing, textures, JCMs, MCMs, presets a plenty, thumbnails, promos, tips, extras for readmes, videos sometimes... everything until we submit the product, and then we have to write a blurb. Yes, it's an incredibly important thing, buuuut by the time we get to that we're so sick of it we can't think of anything to say :D With the first character I did by myself here, I sat there staring at it for a week and a half trying to think of something to say. Especially when the contents of the product are listed out so neatly below (as a customer, I tend to skip the blurb, go to the list, then look back at the blurb if I need clarification about something). There is also definitely a lot of PAs that are not native English speakers, and that's a factor as well.
My personal favorite style is Ansiko's on http://www.daz3d.com/antarctica-expedition-the-encampment-sled-and-poses and http://www.daz3d.com/antarctica-expedition-the-ship . They went into a nice explanation of the basis of the product in the promos (and it probably didn't hurt that the story of Shackleton's expedition is one of my favorites ever). But, not everyone bases their stuff on cool stories like that. So we're stuck with... "She's got freckles!! Lots of 'em! And makeup... did I mention makeup?" Ok, over simplification, but that's what it feels like.
Some of us like "She's got freckles!" though. I read that way faster than noting every detail in a file list or even (I know this makes no sense) from looking at images. JeanZ for Genesis 3 [Commercial]Bought your G2 Jeanz a while back and these G3's look great, but I'm having a problem. Please see the attached image.
- Brand new scene, standard V7. Added basic wear for the sake of posting here but problem showed up with just the Jeanz.
- Jeanz properties show they are "Fit To" Victoria 7 and Parented to the character.
- Same issue with M7, and when I checked with another G3 female character.
- Using Daz 4.8, so I'm downloading & installing via Install Manager. I uninstalled, deleted saved package, re-downloaded and re-installed, same problem.
- Tried adding Jeanz both via Smart Content tab and from Content Library, same result.
Am I doing something horribly wrong? Other than using 4.8?

I have the same issue with this product on my G3F character. I also use DS4.8 pro
JeanZ for Genesis 3 [Commercial]Have bought all JeanZ since the original ones for original Victoria apart from the Freak ones, and am pleased to see versions for Genesis 3. I suppose I will be gettig them, though a little concerned by ColinFrench's problem as I also use DS 4.8.
Is the mesh vertex compatible with e.g. the Genesis version, so morphs can be just passed from one to the other (like your new ones)?
I am, though, very sad you never made a Genesis 2 - especially a G2F - version. I need jeans for a G2F female character for a lengthy story that have to fit a lot of criteria (pose, style - they need to be loose and mid waisted, and almost all other jeans produced by others are tight skinny very low-rise types - and open type morphs, pllus good bending on thigh side-to-side and bend right up to the G2F bend limits), After going through all the G2F, G2M and Genesis jeans I had (life's too short to consider all the V4, M4, S3 etc ones as well), I ended up with a shortlist of 6 jeans by assorted PAs, none useable 'out of the box' due to wrong styles, poor bends, needing converting from G2M or Genesis etc, and eventually settled on the JeanZ - the Genesis version, but having to convert them myself to G2F as you never made Genesis 2 ones, despite my constant hope that you woiuld. I used Autofit to start, but the results were not useable as is, mesh ,horribly scrunched up and self-intersecting at the crotch, distorted at the mid back and leg hems, very poor thigh side-to-side and bend bending so then had to (1) clumsily and painstakingly fix the base converted mesh shape, vertex by vertex in Hexagon right through the crotch area up to the middle of the back, plus bottom of both legs; (2) vertex by vertex fix the weight maps for the thigh side-to-side (without ever fully understanding the tools!); and (3) vertex by vertex fixing the bend weight maps for the thighs. Unfortunately I'm clumsy at it, and it has taken many, many hours. Even more unfortunately, since becoming disabled, computer work causes rapidly rising pain, I can't work for long, and I also can't work often. I've been slowly doing this JeanZ conversion off and on since last December, with long breaks when I just can't face more of that precision type work that causes pain to rise fastest, and I STILL haven't finished, so still haven't been able to start rendering the story I need them for. Done the base converted shape, both thigh side to side weightmapping and the left thigh bend, but STILL have the right thigh bend to do (the weightmap symmetry function doesn't work on it). I have so been hoping a G2F version from you would appear - I'd happily buy in an instant, and the relief at not having to do the rest of my conversion would far outweigh any annoyance at wasted work if one came out from you. But I suppose the appearance of a Genesis 3 version means the end of any hope for a G2F one.
(I am sticking with G2F for the character. though, so slapping these G3F JeanZ on a G3F version of the character is not a solution. I've repeatedly tested and retested G3F as an alternative base figure to use, but G2F has several significant advantages over G3F in morphing everywhere but the head and also bending - as does triax over general weightmapping, IMO - and I'd lose too much going from a G2F to G3F verrsion of the character. The 'advances' in G3F appear to be all about improving things for people using a 'production environment' where they send the figures out of DS into some other industry standard software as sonme 'pipeline' mumbo jumbo, but at the price of loss of utility within DS itself; as I'm only using DS, those 'advantages' mean nothing to me, only the loss of utility within DS. The worse thing about the Genesis 3 is the lower resolution mesh on the body and limbs, with the loss of edgeloops outlining the main sub-skin muscle, tendon and bone structures. This has meant - among other things - that the 'genepool' has effectively been 'drained'.' With DAZ and PAs having to use HD morphs and normal maps, but with no basic outlines of the structures in the base mesh to tell different DAZ workers and PAs where the structures actually are, different SD and HD morphs and Normal maps don't align with each other and interfere with each other, so just cannot be mixed and combined the way they can with Genesis and the Genesis 2s. Everything's fine if you just want to use one -7 figure, but when I start trying to combine low levels of more than one -7 character morph, some DAZ body morphs, some normal maps etc. bad things happen, JCMs conflict with each other over where the edges of joint details are, breast morphs (usualy to shrink them for realism) don't assume the edge of the breast mesh is the same as the -7 morphs do, etce etc, and it's just a horrible mess, especially when posing.)
Hm. I suppose these Genesis 3 JeanZ will actually convert better to G2F than the Genesis ones did in that the base shape may fit without needing fixing at all if I used transfer utility and just retained the base mesh shape instead of letting Autofit mangle the crotch. OTOH they'd probably still need the thigh side-to-side and bends completely redoing, and I can't face that again. So I guess I'd better get on with the right thigh bend in my conversion of the Genesis version.

First, thanks for your support, it is truly appreciated! Yes the two versions of the JeanZ are vertex compatiable.
Sorry to hear of your struggles. I sent you an message on G2.
Cheers!
