  • Face Transfer - Custom 'base' textures?

So given what we know so far, this task that the OP and I are attempting of preloading our own base textures for Face Transfer to use is just impossible.

I am fairly certain I found the base G8 body texture files that Face Transfer is actually using. In my installation, they are located at:

    C:\Daz 3D\Applications\64-bit\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\plugins\Face Transfer\resources

Inside of this folder you will find files with sizes that exactly match the size of the original torso, arm, and leg texture files from here (screenshot attached):

    C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\Runtime\Textures\DAZ\Characters\Genesis8\FemaleBase

I tried replacing these files with my own textures and renaming them to the same name as the Face Transfer files (e.g. "XXXX.bytes") and Face Transfer appeared tried to use them when run because my larger texture files took longer to process. However, I think there is a hard-coded dependency on those original G8 files saved as "XXXX.bytes" being used, because after trying to use my files, Face Transfer and Daz Studio crashed.

In short, postprocessing seems to be the only option until the Face Transfer plugin itself is formally updated to take input textures like FaceGen does since Face Transfer relies on hard-coded files and crashes when they are replaced.

  • Face Transfer - Custom 'base' textures?

n.b. Face Transfer and the other face morphing plugins that use the original textures for the Genesis base figures, do NOT change the original base textures. They save their creations to files which they save elsewhere in the Textures Folder.

So I tried the steps in the tutorial and I'm having the exact same issue as the OP. I replaced all the original G8 textures with my own textures but Face Transfer is still using the original G8 textures somehow. I have no idea where it is getting them.

Also, just like the OP, newly created G8 models are using my textures, not the original G8 textures. But Face Transfer either has the old textures hard-coded or is pulling them from some other folder.

Did you clear the cache and any temp folders first?

The changing of the original textures to your textures was intended for use for new morphs you would be creating in Face Transfer. After that work is done and you have saved the newly made textures from the temp folder Face Transfer uses, and D/S is closed, I expect people would want to put back into the original Genesis 8 texture folder], the original textures. [unzip to 'here' with 7Zip to unpack them back into the folder. Then your fresh loads of other G8 Models will use the correct texture files.

To find where any texture image in use is located, check the address of the image on the Surface Tab.

argh,,, change the textures after you create the facetranfer morph. if you use a picture in face transfer that has hair over the face that will be part of what facetransfer uses ... same for a black and white image
    ---
I can't show you what the facetransfer skin looked like because I replaced it.
first shot is the image I did the face transfer from ... it was created in a game with third party public domain morphs and skins and then taken as a screenshot .. (not bad for a 1/60 of a sec render, heh)
second image shows the fastransfer face but the character after creation with facetranfer had another skin in this case 3du gayle characters skin.
    ---
third picture shows two characters done with headshop ... but same issue obviously the face creation process was for shape not the skin.

  • How to make my Earring autofit?

Did the earring get made for the base figure or for a figure shape?

If the base figure or shape you can use the transfer utility as Richard suggested either via the edit menu found along the top of DS or if you have the the icon which looks similar to the symbol used for males, a ball with an arrow sticking out of it.

When the dialogue for the transfer utility pops up there are a number of selection boxes.

The top row are for the figure and your item. So in the first box on the left hand side select your figure. In the box on the right hand side select your earrings.

In the next row of boxes you will need to select whether you want the default figure shape, current, iirc morph or a clone. You will need to do this for your earrings as well.

If the figure is default shape you can leave them as they are.

You can select the head as the projection template or leave it blank. I'm not sure if Genesis 8 has a head template. The figure I use does.

I wouldn't worry about the other settings below, you can probably leave them alone for earrings. I will for clothing often tick the smoothing modifier box but for earrings this might cause issues.

Click accept and you should have a mesh that will autofollow.

Once done you will need to save it as a figure prop asset.

It loads lined up with the abse figure? The just use Edit>Figure>Transfer Utility, set the Source to Genesis 8 Female (or whichever figure it is made for, which should be in the Scene) and the Target to the imported OBJ.

  • Horrid distortion on base female 8 or 8.1 with basic body posing

Please put the Viewport into a non-textured Drawstyle if you are going to show a nude figure.

This means that a character or morph product you have installed, probably one for a larger-bodied shape, is not correctly configured and is triggering one or more corrective morphs or joint centre adjustments when the shape they belong to is not applied. Check that you are not missing any product updates.

  • How Do You Stop Daz Studio 4 Removing All Injections from All Saved Scenes?

Hmm old .DAZ files, I wonder if the morph deltas didn't get loaded from the .DSD files when you re-saved them in DS4, I also wonder if the DUF files are pointing to the old DSD file and just can't use them.

  • How Do You Stop Daz Studio 4 Removing All Injections from All Saved Scenes?

    Hi, Richard.

I'm not massively technical (just a bricks and boards user) so sorry if I can't answer your question concisely. - The actual files fluctuate in terms of age, some of them are 10+ years old, some of them are new, but they were .Daz's that were loaded and saved in .Duf format to suit Daz Studio 4.

Powerloader is what DAZ used initially when I built the scene files years ago. Whenever this issue occurs, I re-install their injections for the modelsvia pose>DAZ's Victoria 4>Morph Injections in the library.

I do know that although they're digital files, Daz items tend to decay over time, so maybe they're just old saves struggling, but it doesn't make a lot of sense that all files together go through the same thing, that's what's throwing me.

  • [Released] Bone Minion for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Poses [Commercial]

I bought the Bone Minion for Generation 4 Poses Bundle. In the user manual is says "Apply the Bone Minion for the poses you want to transfer to this target figure type, e.g., Bone Minion Victoria 4 in order to apply Victoria 4 poses)." I only have Bone Minions for GF8, GF8.1, GM8 and GM8.1. Where do I find the other Bone Minions please?

What is showing in DIM is the Bone Minion for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Poses (i.e., convert G8 poses to other generations).  It sounds like you wanted to buy the Bone Minion for Generation 4 Poses (convert V4/M4 poses to other generations) bundle.

  • How Do You Stop Daz Studio 4 Removing All Injections from All Saved Scenes?

The title says it all, and it is driving me INSANE.

I work with a lot of saved scenes. I set up sets and save them as scenes, I set up characters and save them as scenes, I set up everything so that I can build a library of merge-able assets as and when I need them. This enables immensely fast production and has been my method of working for years until I hit the brick wall that is Daz 4, the most unstable version of the program yet.

Every now and then Daz will suddenly just go LOL, REMOVE ALL INJECTIONS FROM ALL SAVE FILES and all saved scenes will have the morph injections missing from all models, and I'll have to re-inject them all one-by-one and save them. Once re-injected and saved, the file will retain that information - but only until the next time Daz decides to LOL, REMOVE ALL INJECTIONS FROM ALL SAVE FILES.

There is no warning for when this happens, no error message - everything is business-as-usual until suddenly one morning, all injections have been removed from all files.

So obviously it's an issue with how Daz is generally functioning, or how it's set up on my PC, as a posed to something wrong in a specific file, but can anyone think of what kind of root cause may be making this happen?

    EDT:

A few more details I've just thought about. --- The models in question are M4 & V4 (believe it or not, people still use 'em!) - but I've noticed it's ONLY the main main main injections for those models; INJ Base V4, INJ Creature V4, INJ Morphs++ V4, INJ Mucles V4, INJ SheFreak4, INJ Stephanie 4 & INJ The Girl 4.

It looks like it is ONLY those 7. - For example, I have a V4 with RM Pippa injected. The model has been stripped of all aforementioned injections apart from RM Pippa. So what the cheese n' chops is going on, here??

  • Why do the toddlers and children made with Daz 3d Genesis 8 look so weird?

    atoxic said:

I've seen some young characters with adult heads/faces, as well as old characters with similar adult faces which looked to young...
Becaus I am in drawing for some time (...you know dinosaur style : paper, pencil, ink...) there was a lot to learn about anatomy which influences the silouettes of our bodies.
For the differences of in faces of adults and childs there is a good YouTube video:

The lady did an excellent job. She got the most things right, although in my oppion her remark about thin hair is only accurate for babies.
An example for the underlying anatomical reasons for the change of face structure during growing up and getting old is the cartilage in our nose. This is one of the few parts in our body which don't stop growing during our live. In a newborn this cartilage is short (so the nose is upturned). Old witches - where this cartilage had a long, long time to grow - end therefore up with noses where the tip points toward the chin.
I took the  question as a challange and tried to get a dial-in character from Genesis 8.1.
It can be done with sufficient results, but I had to use other morphs in addition to the Genesis 8 / 8.1 face morphs, e.g. some of the excellent morphs of SickleYiels SY200, an adaption of DieTrying morphs to Genesis 8.

Cute morph...I tend to use this little cutie myself...

  • Script retrieves name from a nodes getPropertyGroups(). How can I edit that name from within Daz?

I played around a little and changing the applied head morph did indeed change the value of g_charName. So my issue is resolved, I need to create a differently named head morph to influence this variable (and that's faaar less work than reworking the entire script).

  • Script retrieves name from a nodes getPropertyGroups(). How can I edit that name from within Daz?

On further inspection of the script, I think I realize what's going on? Lets say my character's name is Alice. That function above will look for a "Alice Head" morph in Actor->Head->People. If it doesn't find anything nothing is done with g_charName. And that variable was earlier set to Genesis 8.1 Female.

So basically, I need to make sure my character has a head morph named after them to influence what g_charName gets set as?

  • Unlock Exclusive Access to a FREE Mousso Character (and more) With Noa 8.1 and the Demigod Series

The character "as is" at subdivision 4, the darker one of the two provided skin settings. No auto shape enchancer or skin folds/creases applied. Only HD morph.

The lighter skin setting makes her skin really light, but that'd be absolutely in line with Greek ideas of beauty.

That's where Mousso's trademark very dark eye color comes in handy.

With more darkened skin settings and period clothes:

    Hair by Mihrelle.

In line with Noa, she does look Mediterranean. Real life Mediterranean, without the mandatory exaggerated tan the movie makers like to apply to everyone unless it's Helen of Troy (then she's played by a Nordic-looking actress cheeky).

I don't know if I should cast her as Andromeda, though... Ethiopian princess... I'm not sure if the author of this myth even knew where Ethiopia is.

Been busy working on a new car purchase, but had a few minutes to render a composite of Antheia mixed with Ms. Swole and Hard As Nails (only the HD Details morph).  I haven't tuned Antheia's PBR materials to my lighting yet.  Mousso always does terrific characters.  As an almost exclusive male portrait artist, I do appreciate having a wonderful female character to work with.  Well done, Mousso!  And apologies for my unimpressive render of the delightful Antheia. :)

  • Improve dforce hair look? (jagged) -Solved

So I will come back and verify when the render is done but I believe Richard is correct and here is why it happened. --Yes this was the case the hair was set to base.

Both the hair and outfit are dforce and to keep the hair from resimulating when i did the outfit (I used timeline for the hair)  I used Dforce2morph to save out a morph,  I believe that the process puts the mesh back to base and I did not catch this when I was looking at things to figure out the jaggies.  So I have deleted the hair and reloaded it, dialed in the morph and low and behold the jaggies are gone.  I had already started the render before I seen there were responses to this thread.

Thank you both for your help!
