How do I explain Daz Studio to friends
I have not tried to explain why I need money to get Elijah some new clothes or Victoria a new pair of shoes as no one would understand me I am afraid.
SereneNight Freebie Poses for Genesis 3 Free for Commerical UseOkay, here is one of th 3 pregnant poses I've made. I'll post the link shortly. Want to test a few times. Poses are for Victoria 7.
Serene
Hag HD questionThanks for making hag so she can also be the nice grandma to Victoria.
V4 to G2 posesawesome thanks! now i'm not quite sure where "scripts" is. in Poser that's a pulldown menu like File Edit etc, but i'm not seeing a menu or a tab called Scripts.
EDIT: found it! unfortunately it says i need victoria 4.dsf not sure what i need to do to install that
Hag HD questionI think so. Here's a quickie render of the HD morph at 25% on Victoria 7. It's a full body morph, no separate head/body.
That's impressive! Perfect 80+ old grandmother type. Josh Crockett has some very interesting introductions. The Blind Demon (I believe Sixus release, but Crockett design) is still one of my favorite characters.

Looking for naturally curly hairstylesRosaline Hair or Nerissa Hair (@Rendo) are options, but they're not quite what we want either (too full at the top). Frizzed Head is another option. Aphana Hair can look a lot better than the promos would lead one to believe (see here and here), and it's the closest of them all to me. I personally requested your leftmost hairstyle from AprilYSH three months ago, and she told me that it was the most commonly requested hairstyle, but that curly hair presents a lot of difficulties for the maker.
hey does anyone know where i can find this model in this picThanks to Dartanbck for alerting me to this thread. I thought when I saw it that it was an unmorphed V4, but I couldn't remember what textures I had used. Luckily, I very rarely delete stuff, but I needed to dig out an old archive HD drive - and yes, it is a completely unmorphed Victoria 4 and the texture set is from the Reby Sky set, with the face having the "M2" maps for make-up. I'm delighted that you like the image! (and top marks to Fisty for recognising her!)
Large number of files installed but not available/working?A lot of the old Michael 4 and Victoria 4 products in the store haven't been updated with metadata to make the Smart Content work. You might be better off, as a new user, to return those purchases for a refund and start with the more recent Genesis 3 models. There have been tremendous improvements in technology that are represented in the newer products. If you choose to return purchases, you have 30 days from the date of purchase to return them. Just submit a help request to Sales using this link.
Large number of files installed but not available/working?So I bought Daz yesterday, and bought a whole bunch of files to go along with it for the Victoria 4.2 and Michael 4 characters - not realising at the time how old they were - because there seems to be a lot more support for them than for the more recent ones. Now I'm trying to use them, however, I've encountered a bit of an issue. Or, more accurately, three issues.
The first issue is that some of the files simply don't do anything when loaded; the Undo menu doesn't even acknowledge that I tried to do anything and still has whatever the previous operation showing as most recent in the Undo option.
The second issue is that some files don't load at all; I get a message telling me "An error occured while reading the file, see the log file for more details." After a bit of poking around, I managed to find the log file, which had this to say: "2017-02-10 17:40:53.448 Error reading file, see log for more details." And yes, that was the only message provided for the time at which I'd tried to open the file. Not exactly helpful.
To add to this issue, a large number of files - from what I can tell from some experimentation, all of them that the automatic installer saved in the 'Runtime' folder - aren't even accessible; I can find them in my computer's hard drive but they don't show up in DAZ Studio.
Obviously this is a rather irritating problem considering how much money I just spent on these files that don't seem to work, so if anyone can explain how to make them work properly that would be appreciated.

How do I explain Daz Studio to friendsI'd start by getting them drunk... Then show them a couple documentaries on cults, a little bit of anime, some zombie movies, some science fiction movies... Smack them around with a Victoria's Secret catalog... Make sure to keep the drinks going the whole time... Maybe a bit of the lord of the rings or the hobbit, or games of thrones, Star Wars, more Victoria's Secret smacking... And when they are about to pass out take whatever they have in their wallets or purses... That should be a good simulation...
If you want a quick explanation I'd go with "it's a cult, just more expensive in the long run"...
I hope this was helpful.
Genesis 3 look the same while V4 Look RealisticI understand what you are saying, but to be fair, although there may be characters that are to some degree variations on a theme, that could also be evidenced at times with Victoria 4 as well.
I believe that it is important to remember that Victoria 4 was released in 2006 and remained DAZ's flagship female figure until the introduction of the Genesis figure in 2011. However, V4 remained popular, partly due to better Poser compatibility, and continued to be available from the DAZ Store. Similarly, Genesis 2 Female became the new female flagship figure in 2013, and then was replaced by Genesis 3 Female in 2015. Despite these changes, Victoria 4 remains popular, there are vendors elsewhere still producing content for her, and she still may be purchased from the store today.
My point is simply this: anyone wishing to create character morphs for Victoria 4 has had a very long time to do so and to perfect their craft using that mesh - more than ten years and counting, including five whole years when she was the flagship figure. With new Genesis X figures being introduced every two years, the same opportunity for vendors to hone their skills and produce content with and for a figure prior to the introduction of a new one has obviously diminished.
Thank you for your reply, I've learned a lot and now I understand it better. I just hope there are more "realistic and/or different looking" varieties in genesis 3 but maybe in the future there will be. :)
What is this hairstyle?Looks a bit like this: http://www.daz3d.com/janna-hair-for-genesis-2-female-s-and-victoria-4
But I could be wrong.

Genesis doing the strangeOK, load a figure with the issue (and dieally no other settings on) and in Parameters click on Currently Used. Is anything other than Victoria 5 showing? If it is it may be driving the V5 shape, and it may be that that is what needs to be zeroed. Failing that, click the gear icon on the right of the Victoria 5 slider and select Parameter Settings, then look at the Controllers tab in the lower half of the dialogue - is anything listed there?
hey does anyone know where i can find this model in this picVictoria 4.. looks only slightly modified.
Marketing idea to improve: Carrara for free with PC++ membership? It would be very surprising if they did that. Carrara probably consistently makes DAZ more $$ than all but a handfull of item in their store. If you go to the store home page and sort by most popular (and turn off hide items I own) it's almost ALWAYS in the top 40. With the rare exception of base figures like Victoria 7, Bryce and a couple of other items, all the other items are new, most of them within the past few weeks. based on the relativly few PC+ items on the first page I would guess that the sorting is based on total revenue over a fixed trailing time period. So with Carrara having no PA revenue sharing this would seem to put it right up there as one of Daz's top revenue generators.
Knittingmommy's LaboratoryThank you very much for the shout out. I was very pleased to see your Evilette, she is such a cutie! And your minotaur one is one of my all time faves!
Yeah, Miss Evillette is a keeper. I'm planning another render with her soon. That Minotaur image is one of my favorites, too. I was so excited when I saw that image coming out of my screen when it was rendering. I just wasn't sure anyone else would like it as much. @FirstBastion even put it in his Art of the Promo thread. I was floored! I've never been so excited about as I have been today with regards to my art. I actually feel like an artist today instead of just someone who tinkers just a bit.
Thanks knittingmommy. That is most generous of you. I have all the figures from Michael 2, Victoria 2 through Genesis 3. Plus I have that GenX package you mentioned.
Normally when I use David 3, I load him, and then load the full body morphs and the face morphs. I use some of the body morphs, and then depending on what the scene needs, I will apply some of the face morphs. So what do I need to do? Write down what morphs I typically use? Or save the character out with the morphs applied? I'm probably only using a handful of morphs at any given time.
I didn't notice that you character was an albino. I just noticed that he had a really toned body and that he had really white hair!
Thanks again.
I'll have to load David up to let you know for sure, but my first thought would be to load up David 3 and then load up the morphs you usually use and save that as a preset to the figure you want to transfer to. Then later, if you find any morphs that you need that aren't there, you can load up David 3, load just that morph and save it as a morph preset that can be applied as a morph instead of a full character. That way you can have your character that you usually use and then extra morphs that you usually use for different occasions. Give it a try and see how you do.
If you find you need help, just load up your David with your preferred morphs and save it as .duf file. Since I have both David and the morphs, I should be able to open a .duf file using them. Then make a list of any extra morphs and we'll see what we can do. I don't think we can attach a .duf file to the forums, but if you do dropbox, you can PM me the link with the list of extra morphs.
Good luck and let me know if you need help.
