Not bad! I'd really like a Picard-era Seven morph. There aren't a lot of attractive middle-aged characters out there. Seems like everyone's either a 20 year old hottie or an 80 year old crone.

My favorite Jeri Ryan morph remains Voyager Knights for V3. Yes, V3. (I really think that generation of DAZ figures was the best for getting a likeness. There's more polys in the face, I think. Or they are arranged better) I use a weight-mapped V3 for better bending. It's a for sale product, but I love it. Good texture, and comes with the eye prop.

  • Elgato Stream Deck Plugin for Daz Studio (and SD+) [Alpha-ish]

    Professor Santiago said:

    Hi Windamyre,

Yes to both of those. A G8.1 Figure takes about 2min 45 seconds to load. I know its due to all the morphs I have installed, and the fact that if I remove the data directory it works fine, is what had me thinking it was simply the load time of it all. I am in the process of converting my models that I use on a frequent basis to a single slider, to reduce that load if I remove the main data folder, so hopefully I'll then be able to plug those into the Stream Deck and get it to work that one.

And yes, everything made sense, and did lean on what was already in my mind anyway. Thank you for taking the time to put down an explanation of it all.

I just want to say thank you to yourself and to esemwy for even getting something like this up and running at all. Its made things so much more accessable in my work flow, so thank the pair of you again.

You're welcome!  I'm glad someone's getting some work out of it besides me.

For your morph issue, I might recommend Turbo Loader.  It helps simplify the whole process and can really reduce your load times.  Best part is that if you've got a scene or subscene saved that uses a bunch of morphs you've turned off, it can turn them back on as it loads the scene.  IMHO, this product along with Super Save and Camera Magic (plus plugins) should be built into Daz 5.

  • Which Victoria is the best?

    Artini said:

As a matter of expressions, Victoria 9 looks best for me.

The problem is that all we've seen so far is a small handful of examples under a very limited set of cirumstances with a single character morph, and all that came with the repeated proviso that it wasn't a final version and what we might ultimately get could change.  If you'll recall, for all the advertising hulabaloo about the improved use of facial bones over G3, the G8 figures in general have a well noted problem with smiles that break oddly in the middle, yet some vendors like bluejaunte were able to create extremely pleasant smiles using custom morphs.  Will the demoed expressions work as well on other characters as well as they seem to work on V9 specifically?  In the end, no one really knows how much better, if any, G9/V9 is going to do things versus the other generations except for the PAs who are already working with her, and they're no doubt buried under a stack of NDAs.  Which means that until it's actually out there and in the hands of people, it's premature to really say anything about how good or bad it will really be.  And, of course, there's also the little issue of there being nowhere near the variety of expression packs available for G9 as folks are already likely to have for the other generations for a good length of time...

Now, on the positive side, I do have to note that for the last few years DAZ has been doing a rather poor job of showing off what new products look like in their promo images.  No, let's amend that statement to "a spectacularly bad job," as in some of the promo images for base characters being so horrible that one wonders who in the world could have thought those images were good promotions for the product.  And yet, quite often even the very first test renders by artists on this side of forums have been better by orders of magnitude, so it's certainly possible that G9/V9 will look much better once it's handled by some of the better artists.

  • Genesis 9 Coming Soon! Preorder Victoria 9 HD Today

    outrider42 said:

"HD" is just a label. Sure it defines the morphs above base resolution, but I don't see other software calling it that. It is just a subdivided mesh. It is nothing special in other software because those software tend to allow everyone to be able to sculpt at high subdivision.

Here are some numbers for poly counts. I removed all the eye and mouth geometries and imported this back into Daz.

That left the skin mesh with 13,510 polygons.

If you subdivide this you get to 54,125 polygons. This would be a HD level 1 morph. Jumping to subD 2 takes it to 216,331. And at subD 3 it jumps to 864,640. SubD 4 jumps to 3,459,247. Again these numbers are with the eyes and mouth removed. You can see the trend, since most of the mesh is made of quads, subdividing basically quadruples the numbers.

So Genesis 9 is roughly doubling the base mesh of G8. If they are exactly doubling the skin poly count, that only gets you to 27,010 polygons on the skin. That is still far fewer than what HD offers on Genesis 8. Most PAs are designing their HD meshes far beyond HD1. Many are doing this at level 3 or 4. So while the base mesh may double polygons, I don't see how regular users are going to be able to really get much more detail than they did before. Daz might be throwing non PA creators a bone, but it is a small chicken wing, and a baby one at that, nothing meaty. Daz Studio just doesn't get it.

Here are the numbers on a full Genesis 8.

    Base 18,176

    SubD1     67,426

    SubD2    264,134

    SubD3    1,050,382

    SubD4   4,194,616

Thus if we assume Genesis 9 has 27,010 polygons, jumping to SubD 1 is going to push it past 100,000 polygons. At SubD 2 it will be hitting 400,000-500,000+. At SubD3 it should be well above 1,200,000+.

These are pure guesses, and they are going off Jay's words that the base has about twice the number of polygons. We know the eyes and mouth are now separated, so we they do not get subdivided with the rest. That is a cool idea. But the numbers still add up fast. It will be interesting to see if people use lower subdivision levels on G9 versus what they did on G8. Since each subdivision in G9 appears to fall halfway between each G8 SubD.

So on one hand it is great that the base mesh is getting a boost, but denying users access to create their own mesh in "HD" is still very much a problem. Doubling the base mesh does not solve that in the least, and it might actually backfire.

Maybe all the geometry that got removed from breasts went to face, LOL. I suppose that is a possibility, as it does look like the chest has far fewer polygons. That had to somewhere.

We also have no info on gen props. Neither preorder mentions it, not even the bundle. What is the deal? Is Daz really prepared for this? Why is there so much secrecy? Why are PAs still finalizing products just a couple weeks before launch??? What if one of them falls ill and is unable to provide their product? This just seems weird.

It is fine that Daz announced G9 ahead of time. It lets people plan for it. That is quite a novel approach for Daz. But what good does the announcement do when nothing else gets revealed? There s not a single product aside from the bonus items mentioned. Video games might do preorders all the time, but they reveal what those preorders contain months in advance. How can you ask customers to preorder a bundle without any idea of what that bundle contains?

    Great explanation...

I think they're worried that the base level on Genesis 9 will be hd in which case it might not be possible to do your own morphs. I think this might be a bit of a leap and very much depends on whether the lowest level of the slider will allow you to create standard morphs that aren't hd.

Another option they're missing is it could mean that when the slider goes up on your own morph the hd gets applied. Until Genesis 9 is released this is all just speculation unless someone who already has the figure posts.

Seems to me like there's a problem of definitions. Only PAs can create HD morphs, but in that context "HD" just means at a higher level of subdivision than the base mesh. For G9, the base mesh has higher resolution than G8, which means that base resolution for G9 is equivalent to a subdivided G8, not that G9 "is" HD in Daz terms.

That was what I was thinking but I might not have explained myself very well.

  • Shape Splitter - Divide, Combine and Save (The new version is already available. 1.2.1)[Commercial]

Genesis 2, Genesis 3 and Genesis 8, these are divided into male and female.
for example, Genesis 8 Male and Genesis 8 Female. And their morphs are not shared.

But Genesis 1 and the upcoming Genesis 9 figure will have shared morphs, because they will be the same figure.

Shape Splitter, can only split morphs for the same figure, so in the search, it only shows morphs for Genesis 8 Female.

There are several tutorials to "copy" the morphs of the same generation from Female to Male or vice versa.
And once you have "copied" the morph, it is now possible to divide the morph with the tool.

  • Saving a DAZ Studio PUSH MODIFIER?

When you make an indentation on a figure using the DAZ Studio PUSH MODIFIER, can you save the indentation - as a morph, or as something else, so that the indentation shows up every time you load the character you used it on?  Like, if I load Genesis 8 Female, and use a PUSH MODIFIER with WEIGHT MAP to push her nose into her face so that it doesn't protrude, but is an indentation where her nose used to be - can I save that - if not as a morph, then as a scene subset, or something else?

Or, alternately, does the product MESH GRABBER by ManFriday only grab and pull out, or grab and rotate mesh - or can you grab and push in mesh too?  Which can be saved as a morph, I assume.

    Thanks!

G3 custom UV core characters were such a succesful idea that by G8 everything was made on one base standard UV set. wink

And then they intentionally changed it for G8.1, even though it clearly wasn't necessary given that 8.1 can load the the G3/G3 UV just fine, with DAZ once again trotting out the "it works better" line to justify new UV sets.

The reason for the new UVs was clear and explained - it allows a less abrupt transition in detail ("texel density") from face to back of head and collar. This was soemthing people complained about with the original mapping, so a real issue for at least some real users. And of course this didn't break anything severely, maps till applied but some scripts based on surface names needed a workaround.

It's hard not to see it as the same kind of iPhone marketing that nearly killed Poser under Smith Micro.  "Oh no, headphone jacks are terrible... now you have to buy special headphones," "Oh, that power port you have a dozen accessories for is obsolete, buy all new accessories", "Oooh, look  it's a new set of figures for Poser, but they only come with the newest version of the software that is really basically the same thing with two minor feature updates."  Notice that one of the first things Renderosity did was make the newest gen figures available as stand-alones?  Shockingly, they're actually looking at what their users want, and they're pulling Poser back from the death bed in the process.

Yes. It was often showing on bald characters and/or characters with face paints/tattoos going over the face UV seam. It's easier to mask this kind of transition when its along the collar bone.

It's not like any G8.1 texture can't be rebaked with the map transfer to use it on a G3 character.

  • Space traveller's towel

Think of battery technology of some future: very small, any shape, highly efficient. Morphing fluid shields exist, but no magic.

    Capabilities:

    - Dforce towel. Prop, wearable in many ways, as clothing, sun-hat, top-cover, lower-cover, around an arm for special purpose.

    - Can change shape wildly, e.g. to form a larger shield or a parachute-like thing for less fast falling or gliding (grip in the middle, two wings).

    - Can change color. Semi transparent, mirror, camouflage, some fancy stuff, white.

    - Ballistic shield. e.G. worn around an arm or held in a hand, morphing into some kind of shield/armor towards one side (rather).

    - Emergency helmet (or even full body) for space. Some filtering ability for CO/CO2 but not endless.

    - (Gathers energy from temperature difference, static electricity, lightning and a sun. Maybe some fx, from none to mild glow, to strong absorption.)

    - Can display something on the surface, like a screen.

    - Can morph into provisoric furniture, like a chair, or a small bridge, a ladder-like thing, cushion.

    - Can morph into other auxiliary stuff, like a snowboard, a club, a rain collector, a pipe, a bag to carry stuff.

    - Can filter water.

    - Can be used to tie up/immobilize, e.g. binding legs or arms or both.

    - Can morph into a paper-like plane, just with steerability and autonomous features (no propeller, but it can flap wings slightly), e.g. using heat to gain height like some birds do, and then survey and communicate.

    - Can be used for heating and desinfection of bottles and so on.

    - (Self cleaning. I.e. textures for dirt/grime, but doesn't really get damaged.)

    - (Weighs near nothing, so it's not good to place on the ground as a ballistic shield, but it might be spanned from A to B, dynamically attaching to reels or maybe even with adjusting the surface to 'adhesive' on the sides.)

    - (Energy consumption varies wildly amongst features, so mind a recharge. Some uses need actual fuel, like extended emergency space helmet, but only so and so much can be enclosed, and may partly have to be purged on certain uses like parachute. A lot of DRM is built in, so most people start off with a towel.)

    - (And so on...)

    Who would do this??

(Prefere: daz-to-blender, g8, g3 nice to have, male and female, interactive license.)

  • Sci-Fi: provisoric and emergency airlocks, tech scenarios: advanced but not star trek to vintage

Lore: Omnipotent forcefields don't exist. But you have something, e.g. for merely keeping the air at bay, which is standart for an emergency airlock to protect a deck instantly. People and things can simply pass through, and if something moves too much nearby, some air will also pass through due to local pressure. Batteries have become very small, way more efficient, tiny, any shape. Smart materials exist and (depending on the exact scenario) may form a fluid shield still pretty fast, much tougher than just an emergency airlock, from-to. The combination of dual airlock-fields and a smart-fluid-shield is the standart of the "better airlock". Using other shapes than the plane, makes fluid shields less efficient and much more expensive, thinking of fluid shield helmets, to cover up for all the sci-fi suits either not having helmets, or leaving parts of the body without protection ;). Of course they could use doors, but doors are very heavy and can't be put everywhere, in addition to possible damage and fluid shields being able to self-repair both by external trigger, as well es to some extent passively. Of course a thin layer of fluid shield also may be used on spaceships, typically transparent ;). Once shaped, like e-paper, the fluid shield will not consume energy, unless for monitoring from the outside and triggering fast repair abilities.

Problem 1, Shields: Effects (also animated) for dual airlock forcefield barrier (first), then the smart-fluid-shield filling in and finally the forcefields turning off (independent does...). FIlling in meaning rather growing from the sides - i would say all sides for speed, but it could also be any/two. This could simply be a morph/dial, or a set of those for the relevant sides. It would be cool if the prop is scalable just for different door/gate sizes, preferably keeping the same detail size with repeating textures, but not necessarily. Fluid shield may be anything from full to less-transparent to whatever colors. I'd put them distantly transparent like colored glass, just less perfect, green or dark-ish. Possibly have it expand with small hexagonal sub-structures. Material options would be nice to have, and maybe a thickness for more heavy barriers. If necessary, i'll build this myself for where i need it, but i wouldn't mind buying either. Helps in storeytelling and quick prototype stuff.

1b: Option for airlocks: gun and explosion fx, where the shield regenerates just in local spots. That's perhaos itchy and beyond the prototyping range. Maybe there needn't be holes, you could also have a diable prop for some coloring for when something of a certain size hits. If that's too complicated, maybe a "powerup"-like or an "updating" effect, sending a light/shimmer around the shield. This probably is least important to me right now.

1.2: Fluid-shield wearables (nice to have), without forcefields, just smart-tech: Helmet first! It could just be the effect with no device. Or it could be a wearable device from which the shield folds around you. For females with too much skin on the brest shown, it could be a bra-device to put above other clothes, or maybe just a backpack ;).

1.2b: Full spherical shield out of a backpack device for space. And maybe a version for falling/jumpung off heights, with a morph for the side you fall on (any?) ~ almost a parachute.

1.2c: A wearable device for arm or to holf in your hand (or even attach to somehwere), which pops up a fluid shield, either rather circular, or just on the top or low side (options).

1.4: A placable version forthe military. a) Pop up a rather circular field like a shield with varying size, e.g. lacking sandbags for a person or for a platoon, vehicl.. b) with a pilar to the top and from there around: create a protection bubble.

1.5: A morphable or dforce fluid shield patch, which is put just anywhere, e.g. for provisoric repair of some hole in the hull. These likely only self-repair, or the ship can pop them up just anywhere anyway.

(For these maybe too the gun/hit effect question.)

Problem 2: More classic emergency airlocks, like inflatable/inflated provisoric mock-ups. Such would be cool to have to cover any door/gate or patch up small spaceships like the shuttlestar. Options for materials like new/warn/burnt/whatever would be nice to have. The actual door part may be zipper or just a sliding/rolling thing. Needs open and closed variant, dial nice to have. Otherwise textures could be neutral, "emergency", bio-hazard, military camo/what not, some company ads like (some generic company, scrappers "dismantle anything safe", ...)...

2.1 Flat emergency airlock for open spaces, corridors and doors with different shapes (meaning somehow compatible, e.g. with round/rectangular/hexagonal, think of the modular sci-fi-sets, round, rectangular, flexi-shape with a door cutout). It would be great, if there was different door sizes, like for a cargo hold (large), door-size with slightly enhanced walls (and maybe wall-extensions) to patch up just a corridor, and smaller doors that fit into doors, though if it's thick enough, it won't matter much to use normal door-size.

2.2 A corridor element to use in a modular fashion with different attachments for front/end sides. This is just to patch up between spaceships and hangar doors, for instance. Could have an option to remove the floor, e.g. to just patch up the relevant parts in a hangar.

2.3 End-pieces like doors, but also to attach to different types of shapes for spaceships like the shuttlestar, or ones with morphs optimized for round things for instance. Variants for doors of different sizes, maybe hatches too.

2.4 Provisoric smaller-ship hangar. If you don't like the morphing thing for the shuttlestar-type of ship, a hangar where the whole ship fits in could be fairly easy to do. No floor is needed, as it's put on the flat ground. One or two sides have a gate-like thing (can be a swinging gate or it just rolls up to the top, whrere the smaller ship fits through. And then the other two sides have normal doors (roll up...) to attach corridors to, so people can walk in the jetcarrier or another building with present doors simply. The hangar could also have optional sides, simply, so you either leave them out, because it's right on the side of a building, or you put in any door/gate type feasible.

2.5 For fancyness, there could be an expanding and contracting corridor element, like may actually be used to interface between hatches in space.

Patching up hangars would be cool, but the main concern is to have something provisoric (and also looking so) for creating air-safe links between things for some people to walk through, or to place an emergency airlock somewhere. Of course you could make textures for less provisoric, just to patch up some existing set piece with an actual airlock, so people don't need full body suits all the time. Design-wise they could have sub-structures like hexagons looking inflated, or like some of the high insulation winter gear. I'd love to have some options for colors, like nowadays-space-white-ish, dark, maybe some camo (which ;)?). There can also be a less provisoric variant, just to be able to put in an airlock just anywhere, also for bio-hazard scenarios.

    Probably forgot to name priorities:

    I. Forcefield and Fluid-shield Airlocks for patching doorways and gateways, hangars. Replace the often used all-energy-forcefields of a hangar for instance, or just have an actual good looking and space-efficient airlock in a Starjet or a smaller spaceship. Also think of fluid-shield barriers instead of energy-only for prison cells and containments. Here the dual-forcefield + fluid animation could fit in very well too.

II. Visible inflated emergency airlocks for patching up doors (compatible with less futuristic space scenarios, but also just any).

III. Airlock corridors to attach to doors for hangars or corridors, to patch spaceships and other (shuttlestar for one, but maybe also between other structures).

    IV. Rest.

Please DAZ-to-Blende bridge, G8 perferred at present (G3 nice to have, iff i have to convert everything there for computer games due to tooling, likely rather a temporary issue), male+female and with interactive license(s) for potential use in computer games!

Of course this may be mutliple products, and i have no idea, if any of this sell at all. I'd still be interested, and i think with all the spaceships it would at least come in handy, to be able to place a provisoric airlock anywhere (scrappers, emergency, bio-hazard) and to connect spaceships and hangars somehow in a believable way.

    What else to ask? ;)...

  • Genesis 9 Coming Soon! Preorder Victoria 9 HD Today

With the upcoming release of Genesis 9, I thought it might be a good idea to revisit making clothes for Genesis 1.  Genesis 9 uses the same unimesh for both the female and the male.  There are female and male base full body morphs to model gender-leaning clothes for.  Jay Versluis and Fugazi have a pre-copy of Genesis 9 and made a video for using Marvelous Designer to make a dress for the female full body morph and still rigged for the unimesh.  Most of us don't have Genesis 9 yet, including me, but it occurred to me that this workflow is similar to creating for Genesis 1.  Therefore, I put together a tutorial as a series of screen shots to use Marvelous Designer to make a skirt tailored to the Genesis 1 Basic Female, and then rigged for the genesis 1 base.

My free Genesis 1 female to unimesh tutorial using screenshots starting here - https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/7729546/#Comment_7729546

Both do the modeling in Marvelous Designer and then import the OBJ in Daz Studio for rigging.  My copy of Marvelous Designer is old, before they went subscription.  So if you have a current license or take advantage of a free trial, you will have a slightly different interface with some additional tools.

  • Free Tutorial - Marvelous Designer for Clothes for Unimesh (Genesis 1 for G9)

Mods - I put this here but move if appropriate.  The tutorial is free, but maybe only clothes/props/characters, etc go here.

  • TMA Andrea for Genesis 8.1 Female no shape slider?

Click the gear icon on the slider, open Parameter Settings, and see what the Type iss et to - it should usually be modifier/shape for a morph.

  • Error in morph loader

If you forgot to keep vertex order on importing to Blender, and then did a lot of work in Blender, you can use the free add on by bartoszstyperek called 'Transfer the vertex order' to copy vert order of a mesh with correct vertex order.

  • Error in morph loader

Hi everyone! I'm not an expert, but it's not the first morph I create. I'm probably doing something silly wrong.

I have a shirt (left image) that I quickly edited to show you what happens to me (right image, the central part is narrower)

I imported the t-shirt into daz (left image)

With morph loader I imported the model in the right image, I set it to 100% and this is the result:

    Why? thank you

  • Demetria Outfit missing hood?

I think this is one time the 'additional products used' would have been most useful to the customer. I really wish the promo pages provided them more often, rather than advertising unrelated products currently on sale.

I have the outfit the hood comes from and I don't think I ever used it because of the morph for the ears. But seeing that it can be used for a normal head adds to its usefulness to me.

  • TMA Andrea for Genesis 8.1 Female no shape slider?

Interesting, I can find the morph under the parameters tab under "All" but not under the Shaping tab. Loading the character was not a problem at all, it was really just the morph I couldn't find.
