Probably answeared somewhere else but I'll ask it again for myself.  What is the difference between these characters and how it affect what they can and cannot use.  I'm brand new to DAZ so I have the basics that came with the download and I bought a few items and characters to test with. 

I intallaly loaded Victoria (with the Stephaine preset as well) and an article of clothing didn't fit.  I reloaded it again w/o stepahnie so the swimsuit fit, but when i tried it on a character for Victoria 4 it didn't fit again but it did fit Genesis 2. 

I don't know if I missed a step somewhere, or if there's something else I'm missing.  Is there a good tutorial anywhere about the difference between these characters.

Sadly, when you fit the clothing on Generation 7 (Genesis 3) it doesn't go very well.  If I might suggest the following versions...

Hmmmmm.... are you fitting them using one of the Wear Them All shape cloners, or by some other technique? (I don't have any of the Wear Them All products but have been eyeing them lately.)

I am actually.  Occasionally, there is a fantastic fit, but it's either totally hit or totally miss.  Plus, the buttons on the front will stretch out of shape if you use the wear them all plug in too much.  Also, the clothing can deform depending which figure you use.  Michael and Victoria 7 is usually okay, but when you start using figures like Dante or Rune, it can get a little harder to make them look right. 

I started only a few weeks ago, and I made some great purchases and some not so good purchases.

Apparantly choosing which genesis model to stick with is down to what you want to achieve. I wanted the most realistic renders and up to date figures so I chose Gensis 3, however, extra detail might not be as important for you as having lots of choice, and many more mods and things to choose from at a lower cost (sometimes).

Once you've chosen which to go for, You'll want to find a character you like. When you look at characters there will be a little note saying which other products are required. Sometimes, you only need a base genesis character and the body/face morph pack other times you may need to purchase an add-on like Victoria 7. These characters are more expensive because of this.

No matter what you will probably want to buy the face and body morphs.

After that I personally bought hair options, and a great pose/prop set that came with lighting setups. 

Aside from a few other accessories after that I was all set and created some really gorgeous renders very quickly. Having the premade set helped me to learn how to set a scene and light it correctly.

After that Ive puchased more detailed eyebrows, different characters, a lot more morphs, eye colour packs, shoes, more hair, beauty toes, sets, props, snakes... the list goes on lol.

I fitted the old "Scorpio Rising" from AlfaSeed (for the Victoria 3 figure) to Genesis 3 via the new autofit program. When moving the fingers there are strange "gum"like streaks from the fingers. This happens only with the fingers, when moving other parts of the figure all works correct. When i fit the gloves to the original V3 figure all works fine.

I also tried other gloves for V3 on Genesis 3 but all worked correctly.

What could be wrong?

mmm I be a real sinner then I too bought it few yaers ago haven't really looked atr it either and not in a very very long time and I got it extremely cheap too if gave me the cool presents Michael Genesis 2 pro bundle and Victoria Genesis 2 Pro for free think total was less than half the cost of one bundle gave me so much and I haven't given it anything still no attention or loving

"Princess of Magic II"  for Victoria 3 on Genesis 3 Female. Courtesy of the "Baron" Baron_Von_ Harkonnen.  All of his models are about 10 yr or older, but all of them have separate matzones making the application of Iray shaders a snap.

Did you install all of the Michael 4 morph addons to the same content directory as the base figure, and the same for the Victoria 4 add-ons?

Agreed with all the above. Provided you're not redistributing your kitbashes, keeping them for your own use only, I really don't see why anyone would have to worry about getting into trouble about modding the things in their runtime. In point of fact, given that kitbashing is one of the fundamental skills of a 3D artist - heck, right now I have an ongoing thread in this very forum about the best way to go about kitbashing a single-mesh object I recently bought - it'd be kind of absurd to forbid it if you wanted artists to buy your products. I do a lot of work with an Edwardian/late-Victorian theme, and I HAVE to kitbash in order to get the right look on the dresses and such. (I don't know if you remember, Chohole, but we had a few discussions about that several years ago.) In fact, until Edwardian Hair for G2 came out, I had to kitbash to create the "Gibson Girl" pompadour so characteristic of the period (and I kitbashed that one to be able to fit it onto Victoria 4 by first loading it onto base G2 female, then separating it and saving the hair figure on its own, and then tweaking the size and X, Y and Z axes a bit to get it to sit properly on V4's head). Moreover, what else could you call applying new textures to an existing object but a form of kitbashing? If that were illegal, then we'd have to remove every single texture set from the market!

I like modern crosses with nobody on them, but anyway, as said they models, wings, robes are all there to make your renders. As to why you don't see those in the galleries and in the DAZ store but instead see all the demon, devils, incubuses (am I allowed to say a word without having a clue as to what that word means?), and other fictional creatures; people must be buying them although personally I have more trouble telling those creatures apart then the various near Michael 7 / Victoria 7 variations that are in the DAZ Store.

Oh and let's not forget the endless zombie march... Yes, somebody must be buying them all but its not me although I do have a morph package that I got on the cheap 'just in case' LOL   You know what it is.. I think there is enough garbage in the world already.. I don't need to contribute more of it.. give me something beautiful to share... Help me create something that inspires people ..  Clearly,  I need all the help I can get. :) LOL

So if 'smart-parent' is applied to a wearable preset that is a set of clothing on a specific figure (say Victoria 7), then whenever I load that wearable preset it will automatically load Victoria 7 into the clothes and into my scene?

Would this also embed the morphs that were applied to V7 when the wearable preset was created? Otherwise I can't see the use in this feature as you'd have to do the morphs afterwards. So wouldn't you just be better off loading your character preset and then the wearables preset afterward?

If that's not the case, is it possible to save a combo-preset that includes other presets? Like character, with morphs applied to them, and the wearables on top (an all-in-one preset)?

Whilst looking just now for that answer within Daz's presets, I've noticed that 'smart-parent' is greyed out anyway and seems to want to stay that way. How do I even enable it?

This is a more general question about getting the "hair band" or "visible scalp" in the Viewport.

I purchased the Kerry Bundle which included Rasta Tails Hair and the Kerry HD character. I figured adding the character, adding the base hair, and Fitting the hair to the character should just work.

But, I get a visible scalp that's the color of the hair. If I do an Iray render, I get this in my rendered image as well.

In the past when this happened, I usually just played with the Scale of the hair object, and I'd eventually get the scalp part small enough it would go into the characters head and be effectively invisible. But, particularly for this hair style, the corn rows start to look irregular if I try this trick. I tried the adjustments that came with Rasta hair, and I end up with the same problem - the corn rows start looking irregular; I guess I could get there with an hour of work, basically matching the transforms to the head shape.

I'm posting because this is a more general question about the hair/scalp band that is sometimes visible. I saw someone else had this problem, but it was only in their renders and it was because of the way their lights were set up. Mine occurs in the VIEWPORT, so light isn't an issue (BTW, I have a single Distant light).

Here's a quick look at Ingenue Vickie for V3 and her bikini. I finally caught a good deal on the bundle, which is normally $100. It was in fast grab the other day at 70% off and stacked with the Wear Them All sale. It's a nice set, but she comes with no textures at all. Seems like all of the Gen 3s are like this. I'm not sure what texture she's wearing in the promos, but here she is with Skin 1 from the International Beauties set. Her bundle didn't come with hair either. In the promos, she's wearing the Las Vegas hair, but that's not in any of her sets. So here she is in Geneva Hair for G3F. Not a perfect fit, but she is petite and many hairstyles seem to overwhelm her. I also picked up Glamorous Vickie and Glamourous Aiko.

Looks good!  I wondered why that was so cheap to start with.  I didn't realize it was also in FG.  I picked it up, too.  It was kind of hard to resist picking up a bundle that cheap when it is normally that expensive.  I don't think any of the original figures came with textures back then.  Everything was separate which boggles the mind consider the price of everything.  There is no way I could have afforded to do this hobby back when DAZ was first starting.  Prices and what you get with a figure are so much better these days.
