  • Updating Morphs on Existing Character

Sometimes, you're trying to do something with a Daz character in Unity, and you realize that you could use that one specific morph you don't already have attached. You've already got components on your character (like an eye and head animator), and have that character pointed to by other objects, and used in Timeline. When you reimport the character using Daz to Unity, it destroys the character you were using in the scene, and replaces it with a new one. If the previous one was Bob_Prefab 1, the new one is Bob_Prefab 2. Whatever components you had on Bob1 are not on Bob2, meaning you have to start all over again to get him to work in your scene. Is there a way around this?

  • Meaning of hidden morph prefixes and morph types.

Oh the morph type can be very important. Normally the regular morphs are called Modifier/Shape. The field has to be filled in with something -- D/S usually autofills it correctly for regular morphs.

I just picked up Torian for Metamixer. He works OK, but I'd rather not have elf ears. I've tried a few different things, but I can't make his ears look human. Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks.

I think the easiest way would be to dial out the Torian ears morph...

Type Torian in the text field at the top of the parameters window and you will see loads of morphs associated with Torian... I would imagine one is called Torian ears, slide it down to zero.

Much better as it's much more accurate and less exaggerated, particularly the scapula, plus you get the added bonus of being able to use it for G8, AND G8.1 characters, I've been waiting for this for a while, I can't wait to see what they do for G9!

What made the first set not work on G8.1?

They both are saved in G8 morph folders and whatever is installed to G8 is also used by G8.1 (if using DS 4.15 or newer), the older set was released in 2019, there was no G8.1 at that time, but the morphs should still work for G8.1 as well.

Dammit, I was thinking about V8.1 my mistake… Need more coffee! laugh

Here's a quick render I did with him - I think the sculpt and texture are great.  Had to photoshop those dark bags under his eyes, though.  No problem with the ears, it's a separate morph.

  • Saving a DAZ Studio PUSH MODIFIER?

I spent hours using push modifiers to alter the topography of the skin of an HD character - and I found that if I saved the character as a "scene preset" the push modifier alterations are saved along with the character and the character loads into a new scene with the push modifier applied.  So it isn't a morph.  But it's the next best thing.  All is not lost.

  • Will DAZ allow us to easily use morphs from G/G2/G3/G8/G8.1 on G9?

    PrefoX said:

even for non HD morphs its not really doable because the nipples and bellybuttons are gone anyway. No clue what a plugin could do about that.

Many characters do not have their own nipple and navel morphs anyway, or they do but as separate morphs, so it would still be possible to transfer the main shape.

Ok, so what I get from you guys is that as long as I am not creating with the intent to sell, the morph type is not something to worry that much.

Thank you all for you answers :)

  • Is it possible to bake face Bone rig animation to shape key animation with diffeo?

@wolf359 Please note that the mimic animation also includes movements for eyes and head, since those are bones can't be converted to shapekeys, nor imported into a custom rig as ARP. But face units and visemes will transfer fine.

It will probably be doable, for non-HD morphs, with the Transfer Utility

  • Torian 8.1

When I look at the promo page for Torian himself, it does have a morph, "Torian 8.1 Ears". It seems to me that setting this to 0 should remove the pointy shape. I too am debating making the purchase...I would have hoped for Fibermesh brows, though.

The textures look really nice for sure, but the morph ... Dunno. To me, he has something strangely unintelligent about him which repulses me. I think it might be the brow area jutting forward so mightily. Makes him look like he's permanently going, 'huh? Whawa'that?' And there's nothing humorous or nice in his face to balance this. Again, my view only!

I rather have a problem with his ears. From the detail text, I can't tell if they can be morphed into normal ears or not. I have no use for 'elven' ears. Unfortunately, I can't download and try the figure right now.

Yes, property type is used by some features of DS.
For example when using "modifier/shape" or "modifier/pose" the morph will appear in shaping or posing tab.
There's also a specific type you use when creating a clone for autofit ("modifier/clone" IIRC).

Not quite, for a morph to show in the Shaping tab it needs it's pathway set to the Actor region, and don't get me started on having poses as DSF files.
