        Hello

I'm a beginner and managed to make the following simple image with a model from DAZ3D.the free trial version of Filter forge and Ron's brushes:

imageI've seen the following tutorial where the artist uses Poser11: Ok, it's called Comic Book Preview and requires a fair lot of tweaking, but on the whole I think it's worth a try. It requires postwork afterwards too. I usually render one color render and one Comic Book Preview with just the lines. Then I combine them in Ps, using Overlay layer mode. When I have more time I'll post a short tut here for reference. A while ago I posted a pic done in this style to my DAZ gallery ;]
    http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/11602

Also, a few extra pics I dug out of my computer:

    image image

Yes, postwork will always be there. But some pretty nice results can be achieved ;) Here's the tutorial, or rather a walk-through.

    image image  image

I have a couple of questions; How I combine the two renders of the image? How I tweak to my liking and add effects? And finally I need to make it with Poser11 or I can have the same result with DAZ3D,Photoshop and Filter forge?     Thank you all very much,I'm looking forward for your answers

Thank you SO MUCH for the insightful walk-through, and welcome to this forum! I've been using this method for a while now, and getting very solid results. Although I usually stick to black & white -- I seldom work in full color because my work is printed in b&w.

To directly answer your question (and I know a lot of people here will disagree), but the short answer is: Using Daz Studio and various filters, you will be able to get close to Poser 11's Comic Book Preview, but you will not get exactly the same sharp results. All of the line art renders I've seen here are similar, but not quite as good as what you can get from Poser 11. Lines generated by Will Timmon's Outline Shader and via LineRender 9000 are very nice, but they are all soft and lack the distinct edges you get with Poser 11. That being said, it might be worth it if you want to invest the time in discovering a workflow that can achieve sharp inked edges. You would get access to more modern models (Genesis 2 and 3, for example) and newer props, which don't always work properly when using the DSON importer to take them to Poser 11. BUT... there's a LOT of great content out there for Poser, so it might be worth it to stick with it and just continue to work with Poser.

In any case, I look forward to seeing what you have to show us next.

PS: If you're interested, I have several illustrations using Poser 11 in my gallery: https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#galleries/221578/

Thank you very much for your response.I saw your images.those in full colour as well as in black & white.I liked them all, about specifically comic style I liked very much "Powers Beyond Weapons Gear" from the fuul colour.also "Medlab" and "Fight or Flight" and "Bobby E.Studies" from black&white.Because I am beginner can you show me a method to do something similar? (A tutorial, step by step etc). I'm trying to learn.Poser11 has its own models and how can I find models for Poser11?Because you said it doesn't always work properly when using the DSON importer to take models to Poser11 from DAZ3D.Thank you once again.

Sorry for the short reply tonight, but I'm very tired and should have gone to bed hours ago. First of all, thank you for the knid words about my work.

If you plan to work with Poser, you should invest in Michael 4 and Victoria 4. There are TONS of useful props and clothes for them. Even though they are older figures, they are still very versatile and many consider them to be some of the best figures ever created that work equally well in Poser and Daz Studio.

Maybe later this month I will finally take the time to sit down and do a tutorial on the method I am using.

Sorry, gotta run. It's WAY too late, and I'm very tired.

This is prolly cheating as all get out, but I am still fond of this render...

    "Dark Star"

    Poser

    Sept 22, 2005

Shiloh for Victoria 3, by me (my first commercial character)

This render ended up in the Poser 6 handbook. That was kinda fun. :)

I just got wind of this thread so I thought I'd pop in, being on forced bed rest at the moment. For some reason, they really want you to take it easy after heart surgery...go figure.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You brought a tear to me eye with this...thanks, everyone. :)

I've been sidetracked with SB3 and the render competition. I almost can't believe I managed to enter 11 times! Certainly the most "legal" fun I've had in a very long time. Anyway, I have an update for you guys on the "SB3 won't complete Makeup and Brows" issue. If you've been reading the commercial thread, you probably already know this, but if not... 1) It turns out the included base G3F converted to Iray isn't the only character that stumps the script. 2) I did some troubleshooting and determined the problem is a missing image in the Glossy Layered Weight parameter for both the Face and Lips material zones. SB3 puts a specular map in there, if you use the Skin Base. So my recommendation is to verify your character has an image in that parameter for Face and Lips, and if not, locate the specular map for that character and plug it in before running SB3.

Another potential problem identified in that thread is all the UVs must be set to Base Female. Apparently some characters have eyes using the Victoria 7 UVs, and I've tried adding nails after apply Lune Nails and nothing happened.

Okay... if it's not too late, I have a couple of older GypsyAngel renders:

Apollo in Iray (I converted him by hand, and used normal maps for the excellent FW Derek HD for Michael 6)

    Apollo in Iray, by L'Adair

    And here's one of Ragnar:

    Ragnar, by L'Adair

ETA: I was poking around my old gallery images, and found this WIP image of Apollo in Iray close up. Thought you guys might like to see it.

  • Wear Them All

Victoria's Changing Fantasy Suit & Olympian Conforming Clothing

Here are two more outfits for V1 and V2 that fit fine on Genesis 3:

    • Victoria's Changing Fantasy Suit
    • Olympian Conforming Clothing for Victoria and Michael

There are quite a few textures for them too. V7 has the Boudicea Blue set on. It really doesn't look too bad. These are full body suits and supposedly there's a dial where you can change out the parts on the Fantasy outfit, but I havn't found it yet. There are something like 36 parts. There are two suits- one for clothing, one for accessories. The accessories one has a helmet that does fit, but the shield crumples badly. Not sure that's fixable but you can turn it off by setting cutout opacity to 0. The feet in the clothing suit don't fit, needs tweaking. Overall though, not bad.

This is why I'd love to see a V1/2, M1/2, etc Wear Them All verson/aoutofit option.  I picked up the Olympian outfits also, because quite frankly there isn't anything newer that looks like it (I like this outfit because it isn't trying to show off too much).  Anyways, yeah the sandals are all over the place, and there were a couple of areas that I had to adjust for when changing the pose.

And shoes seem to be trouble in general, as you've shown here.  Not sure how much work it is to make a Wear Them All that is specifically for older shoes, but I'd buy that.  Same for gloves.  It gets trickier of course when the shoes are 'welded' to an outfit as opposed to being a separate clothing item, but again if the feet and hands regions could autofit better, yeah I'd like that.

That being said, using V3 or M3 as the current option at least gets the Olympian clothes in the ballpark/to the point that you can adjust to fit at that point.

The other option would be for the various content authors to provide newer versions of their outfits, but of course that's up to the various content providers as to whether it's worth their own effort or not.  As Llynara continues to show off here, there are a LOT of cool outfits from the days of yore... (pre Genesis), which is why Wear Them All is nice to have in the first place.

    Victoria's Historic Gowns for V1 and V2

Another quickie before I get going, if I ever do. I'm just too excited to be fitting V1 and V2 clothes on a V7! I didn't think that was possible! Woohoo!

Here's the Historic Gowns for V1 and V2. I believe it's one of the oldest sets in the store. Yes, the textures are extremely low res, but you could easily reshade this, which I will later. I loaded this using the V3 template and turned smoothing on. Sub D is on too, but isn't going to help a texture this low res. I'll retexture and play more later. Just wanted to show it since it's on sale for $2 (less if you have a new item in your cart.) I stopped this one at 80% so it's grainy. Not sure why it's dark, DAZ is acting up.

Here are two of the textures from the Historic Map Pak 2. The ideas behind these textures are very nice. They give different looks to the gowns, but they are very old and low res. I'm not sure there's a way to rescue them but could do something similar with retexturing. The lines are classic, and there are enough material zones to work with.

Next up are the V2 and M2 fantasy outfits, which also have many texture packs, all on sale today.

Thanks @firewarden and @fishtales  for showing those. Atticus certainly looks rugged!

Okay, I started at the BACK of all those items on sale up to 75% off, and these were only things I don't have yet (If I unchecked Hide What I Own it would have taken me all day!) but some fun ones to note.

On these, think of applying the UberBase for Iray, then shaders. You've got the object all done for you, so it's just playtime! (And note the gallery images linked, if you have the Daz Deals add-on.)

For the animals listed, there may be newer, better rigged critters. For 60 cents, these were worth it to me to try. Great for filling backgrounds.

    Skiff Runner
Funeral of Hearts   Has detailed interior. For 60 cents
    Taj Mahal
Shroom Castle   The door opens and there's an entryway (no other interior)
Steam Rider   Reshader and wow! Fun tantasy piece
Flight of the Swan   Picture this with new shaders for the fabric. Will be lovely

Silverkey 3D Monkey  Great for a kid's toy
    Modualz Clump Flowers Vol 3
M3 Racer Accessories    A piece of luggage for a travel scene, and a trophy for a shelf. 60 cents
    Gingerbread Man   For Christmas
Aiko's Mascot Menagerie    If you have Aiko 3, these again make cute toys   Expansion 1 gives you 5 more critters
Tarbosaurus DR    Cheap dinosaurs, usually more expensive at other stores. Same vendor.
    Pteranodon

Shark and Shark Poses   Reshader/Uberbase and you're good to go. I think a leather shader would work good too.
    Killer Whale
Mosquito    Because if you're being realistic, these jerks should always be in your scene after 7pm. (and some places, SOONER.)
Ant     For the same reason, only starting at 7am.
Lily for Millennium Baby 3.0     I think the head is better than the Genesis baby, or whichever generation it is. For 60 cents, why not. Here's the baby.
Bull   Looks like he has good movement, and for barn/country scenes, you need a bull of course!  And a cow.
A Bull's Life    Poses done for you
The Three Little Pigs    Just because they're adorable, and great kid's toy and of course Big Bad Wolf for the same reason.
Fairytale Collection   Ensorcelled    and  Cinderella Carriage (required)  Again, cute child's toy
World Travels   Remember the Hercules show with Kevin Sorbo? Reshader this wagon and it reminds me of something you'd see rolling into a village. For 60 cents I'll eventually play with it.

Paradise Pavilion  Add a few D Formers to the curtains, UberBase and reshader.
Toonimal Goldfish and Bowl   For toon renders but if far enough in the background, plop on a shelf as the real thing
Grasslands Volume 5   Nice variety  (I already have the others. See the Gallery image with these, by Barbult)
RDNA Architecture Addons Vol 1 Plants N Pots
    RDNA Hummingbird
SS Garden Gazebo   Interesting variety of roofs
    Bast   Great for statues!
Temple of the Nile   .45  See what you can do with it. Good for backgrounds.
Panthers    For dark renders or distant shots, would do fine. Price is right. Again, think shaders.
Pure Romanz  LOVE this one. Love the bench swing in a pavilion!!! Look at everything included.
Furry Friends Mouse  More expensive because the 30 head morphs/poses come with it.
Millennium Dog Bundle   I give up waiting on a better dog, these have great materials for a variety of breeds. The price is right.
The Greek Bath  Look at what you can do when you combine newer things with it. Gallery  It comes with a statue.

LB MilHorse Mane Pack If you have the Millennium Horse, might as well get the mane. I frankly like the necks much better on these older horses. Some of the new horse's neck is way too thick in some places (and Stetson was a stallion 9 years, and the new horse's neck resembles HIS more than a normal, typical horse. Morgans are stockier too!) and some the heads and necks don't seem proportionate to me. WHERE the neck enters the chest seems off on some of the renders I've seen, or how thick the neck is where the head attaches, but could be the angle. Just my opinion, but the poor Millennium Horse gets a bum rap and it has better features on the neck IMO.

For the horse, these carriages also include HARNESSES so you can use them for other carriages I think. The curtains have morphs.

Feline Discovery Poses   for the Mil cat.
Ena   If you have Victoria 3. No longer available, darn it.
Spring of 76   A great bicycle!
Millennium Big Cat   See this gallery image
Eagle 2.0 (Upgrade. Has the eagle in this one)

  • 17,000 Store Items Gone? Wow.

I had Poser 1 - little bald figures. Next version they got plastic hair and clothes! The Poser 4 figures - Posette and Dork - where a big advance, especially transmapped hair.

My first product was P4FemMagic, then P4XprssnMagic and I think the first thing I sold at DAZ was for Michael 1. I've retired my oldest products, but get occasional sales of the XprssnMagics for Victoria 3 and Michael 3, so have kept them available.

I still have the Generation 3 figures installed and thinking I'll make use of them and some old favorite outfits with Discobob's new Billboard plug-in whenever I get a little spare time to play.

  • Help - Fantasy Thief for Genesis 3 Female(s)

I want to know if you can just use the hooded cloak? I'd rather buy this product than just the hooded cloak. Same price ($2.50) but more clothing comes with.

    Hooded Cloak only product

Are you familiar with the expression "penny wise and pound foolish"?

The cloak in Fantasy Thief is just "a" hooded cloak. The stand-alone hooded cloak is "The" hooded cloak. It has versions for every figure in the last ten years, from Genesis 3 (male and female) all the way back to G2, Genesis, Victoria/Michale/Stephanie 4, and Victoria/Michael/Stephanie/blah/blah 3. And it has over twice as many morphs as the Fantasy Thief cloak. But wait, there's more...

    Trumpets blare...

They all take the same textures, and there's well over 50 of those available, some of which are currently on sale for as low as $0.60. (Not to mention some great free morphs on ShareCG).

Here's a few of my faves:

    https://www.daz3d.com/lace-embers-reflections-in-white

    https://www.daz3d.com/princess-of-china-2

    https://www.daz3d.com/princess-of-eire-2

Some of those are just textures for the cloak, others are complete sets that also texture the morphing fantasy dress (another of those great five-generation items with versions from V3 to Genesis 3) and even the morphing mask (again, with versions from V3 to G3)

  • Skin Builder 3 Merchant Resource for Genesis 3 Female (Commercial)

I cannot use brows or eyes, it simply won't add it to the character, and it's been like that ever since I bought it. I don't use optimisers btw.
EDIT: It works when I build the skin for it, but it doesn't work without building the skin even though options such as color and freckles work on existing skins. Not sure if it's supposed to be that way or not.

@jevgenijevna, I agree with Cybersox13 about the eyes. I've noticed issues with both the eyes and the nails, and when looking at the UVs via the Surfaces->Editor, I found the eyes did have the Victoria 7 UVs and the nails had UVs from a nail addon product. When I changed those to the "Base Female," everything started working again.

I also know the issue with the brows. It is a problem for all the scripts that affect the face materials: Blush, Shadows, Liners, and Lips in the Makeup section, as well as Brows. Your character is missing an image in the Glossy Layered Weigth parameter for the face zones: Ears, Eye Socket, Face and Lips. You can skip the first two, but SB3 needs to modify the image to apply the makeup and/or brows. When you build the skin via SB3, that parameter includes a specular map for the image. Here's how to solve that problem:

Before opening SB3 for any Iray G3F, verify the specular map is included in the Glossy Layered Weight parameter for Face and Lips, and add if it's not already there. (You may need to bump up the value to 1, to compensate for the image map. The Base Female for G3F was set to .25 by the conversion...)

    Hope this helps.

Some of the products which are no longer in the store were for Posette and Dork.   How many forum members will admit they have never used Posette and Dork because they are so old? (Posette and Dork are old I mean,  not the forum members)

DAZ never sold P4Woman/P4Man ("Posette/Dork"). It's a blurry piece of history because:

    1. Circa 1998, Zygote did briefly sell the P4Woman/Man figures (in a number of formats, IIRC) before DAZ was created, concurrent with them being distributed in Poser 4. At this time Zygote was more like TurboSquid, selling a wide variety of content over a variety of formats for different applications. They also sold software including Poser 4 which made sense since they had developed most of its bundled content over the years.
    2. About a year later 2 Zygote staffers (Dan Farr and Christopher Creek) put together higher resolution, Poser-exclusive figure/accessory content Victoria 1/Michael 1. Good product, great sales…but bad timing. Zygote chose to specialize, repositioning itself vertically as a high-end anatomical model service firm directly to the medical field (and Hollywood), abandoning the consumer market altogether (they've since rethought that last part).
    3. Dan and Chris bought out their exclusive Poser content to form DAZ, choosing wisely to target their own higher resolution figures and let other stores continue to service P4. The only exception I can recall are a few early V/M hair models that included some P4 figure fits.

I did say for them,  not that Daz (as Daz) ever sold them
We have had this convo in the forums before.

I bought it the day it was released, and was most disappointed to learn that it doesn't.  I also didn't like the muted effect it applied to V7's makeup.  I haven't bothered with it since, choosing instead to use whatever mats the character sets I buy come with.

Ah thats unfortunate. Will see about getting a refund and might as well use it to buy a decent character that uses Victoria 7. Do you know of any other identical products such as this that includes anatomical elements?

Mynx for Victoria 7       Exo Suit For Genesis 3 Female(s)     Heath Hair for Genesis 3 Male(s) & Female(s)

Chace Hair for Genesis 3 Female(s) and Genesis 2 Female(s)        Dandelion Clothes for Genesis 3 Female(s)     Dove Hair for Genesis 3 Female(s)

    Continuing with GypsyAngel.

Mynx can have many different looks. From space gal to Dandelion imp, she's got it covered. FYI, Dove Hair is 66% off right now, and it's a DO if you haven't used your monthly code. It would only be 98 cents! It's got nice morphs.

Heath Hair needs work at the temples, the skull cap shows too much. Lowering the hairline just makes it worse. I did NOT do any postwork so you could take a look at it. I like it as a short hairstyle, and I did elongate the sides a bit, it goes shorter by default and looks good. Using Slosh's UHT hair shaders.

I think the wounds look good, and I like the bruising on her cheek. Also, the dirt looks good.

She has a lot of different makeups, many with white/gray faces and black warrior-type markings. I went with dainty. I love the depth/glitter of the decal- doesn't look painted on at all.

I was still playing catch up with this thread after taking most of the last month off to write.  Lots of great pictures.  I was going to post my Sawyer image but then Novica already linked it so here is a render using a GypsyAngel fellow that I did last year.  I like how it turned out considering it was my first render with Terradome 3.  The handsome fellow is Merrick.

This handsome fellow is Ragnar without the scar on his face.  I think he's cute.  Such an excellent morph GypsyAngel made there.  :)

I know I've rendered a few of the girls, too, but I'll be darned if I can find them.  They are probably on the old hard drive when I had the big computer crash last year.  I still haven't transferred all of my scene files and renders from that yet.  I have all but 15 GypsyAngel's products.  I really like her characters.  I haven't managed to pick up Brahm and Ronan, yet, but they are definitely going to find a home in my library as soon as possible.  Eventually, I'll get everyone.  I really like how Elish and Roxanne look, too.

I'll have to see what I can do about rendering some of the girls in my library this week.

Oh, I thought I'd tell what I'm using for my desktop backgrounds.  On my main setup in Linux, I'm using one of my latest renders.  I just like how it turned out.  You can see it in my gallery here.  And, on the little drive when I'm in Windows because I still haven't managed to get everything working in Linux quite yet, I have this one set as my desktop background.  It was a 3Delight experiment and I like how it turned out, too.  I don't get a whole lot of good renders out of 3Delight, yet, and I love it when I get a great one.

Guess since I've been a member since 2003 and now 17 years later renders take a matter of minutes instead of hours.....

This space is open for critiques and suggestions.  Tell me what you like and tell me what you don't like, and feel free to make suggestions for render, camera, light, and shader settings.

I've been playing with Daz3D models since before they where Daz3D.... (Millie officially named Victoria from a company called Zygote)  Back when Poser was little more that a digital version of those poseable wooden figures artists have on their desk.

But enough giving people hints about my age.

Onward to the renders and work in progress models.
