So Genesis 8 is here!
right, V7 was gen3. Now v8 is Gen8, not Gen4. Why?
More than likely it's to help avoid the inevitable confusion with Victoria 8 and related characters. Genesis had people confused about what items would work for it, and what was for V4 or earlier figures. The same deal happened when Genesis 2 came out and people assumed everything would work on everything. This way it's just a case of matching the numbers up. Victoria 8 on Genesis 8 Female. Michael 8 on Genesis 8 Male etc.
sad dayWith the dethroning and soon to be back-catalog banishment of yet another Genesis Victoria .... the longevity of Victoria 4 becomes more and more remarkable. Even in the Poser World ...Dawn, Pauline, and the other wanna-be females just can't replace her. Long live the queen!!
Victoria 8Elizabeth - https://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-elizabeth-hd-for-victoria-8 rendered in iray with Daz Studio default lights.
I think, she looks great and I like Power Pose a lot - much easier to pose or adjust ready made poses and expressions.
Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 Pose Converter (Commercial)A question. Victoria 8 is Genesis 4? I see Victoria 8 and G8 being mentioned I want to make sure my nomenclature is correct.
Thank you.
Never mind, I see the new line is being called Genesis 8. I will mourn Genesis 4 through 7.
This might eliminate some confusion though.
Am I crazy or what? When I first clicked on the Victoria 8 ad this morning I beleive it showed tthat with the ProBundle you got the ProBundles for 7,6,5,4 free..
With the StarterBundle for V8 you got the StarterBundles for the older characters for free
And if you bought the V8 figure alone you got the older Victoria figures FREE.
So now I get home and log on and buy the V8 figure but what the heck, the older V figures are no longer offered in the ad and are not in my purchase.. I guess the offer was stopped?
Not at all impressedSee that is the thing about tastes. I loved genesis 1, but having been using genesis 3 for some time now I went back and revisited many of my old genesis 1 and V4 scenes and swapped them out for genesis 3 and they just didn't hold up to genesis 3 IMO.
I guess I'll start worrying about using Genesis 8 once the genesis 8 support starts drying up. I'm not that impressed with the way she looks now also, but then again, V7 is the only victoria I liked out of the box, the rest were butt ugly, LOL
Genesis 8 Backward Compatibility, what does it realy mean?Standard shoes fit well, high heels can be forced to fit by using an adapted Sickleyield script. Below miss Victoria 8 wearing her older siblings shoes.....but it's not as straight forward but highheels never are!
Greets, Artisan
Victoria 8I'm just not wild about the new Vicky.
she's attractive, but not "almost impossibly perfect supermodel" attractive which has always been her archetype.
Face looks much more like Lilith/Arabella (two faces i do like very much) but not what I've come to expect of Victoria.
Victoria 8Please forgive the Ignorance, but when they say 'backward compatable', could that mean that I can update my character which is a G1 Victoria 5 figure and have her look exactly the same, especially the face and she can still wear all the bits and bobs, some of which is very old?
She won't look the same as you'd have to transfer the skin and shape -- which is the case for going between any generation. Clothing, on the other hand, will fit relatively well depending on what it is.
Thanks for the reply. Skin is fine but can I not just copy the face shape?
No -- the skin will have to be converted in some fashion. The face shape *may* be transferrable using the Transfer Utility, but I personally haven't tried it yet.
sad dayDon't be sad. You have not lost your work. You can continue with what you have. I just got decent teeth for Genesis 3 this month (so I could open her mouth without her looking like a horse or a goon), and now here comes Victoria 8 smiling like she knows a secret on lots of promos! Well, I've already cast my blockbuster with Genesis 3, and I've started production. I will just use Gen8 where I can, and if the expressions are really that much better, then I'll have to make some changes. But the show must go on. Take a break. Have some ice cream. And start playing again. You don't have to be state-of-the-art to be avant garde.
I would sure love to know how you are doing with your blockbuster
Victoria 8, a bridge too far???Sort of hard to disagree with the original post. I don't mind so much, as other like-minded people have said, this will likely bring some prices down on G3 content, over time. I am kind of disappointed because we were just getting some pretty cool fantasy base figures in Centaurs and Demons from Daz and other creators. Now back to Victoria, followed by Michael, followed by another human form from every other generation.
Victoria 8Really wish I hadn't blown all that money a month ago moving to Genesis 3.
sigh
Itll be fun moving to Genesis 4 in two years just before Genesis 5 drops.
hahah Well, the longer you wait to switch the cheaper it gets right? Maybe? lol Just a heads up, Victoria 9/Genesis 9 will likely be released June 2019.
Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 9Novica so glad that your son is doing well!
I know today will be filled with Victoria 8 postings, but I wanted to point out something in Fast Grab today for less than $4: Ecomantics - Efficient Ecosystems. I bought this set 4 years ago and it works well in 3DL. These are billboards of grass, bushes, and trees you can assemble yourself or use the presets that combines them in a linear or circular scene. Today I tested it in Iray just letting the system do the conversion and it looks good. Note the individual blades of grass you see, much better than the usual flat textures you see for Iray. This Iray render is of one of the linear scene presets. It took 6 minutes to render. I did adjust the cement texture tiling in the X direction as it loaded stretched out (simply made tiling 7).
I can second this its a beautiful resource and has fall colors too.
sad dayJust so NO ONE is surprised next time - let's Get This Straight here and now. The release dates for the last few new figures have been Two Years apart over the past few years. And almost always in June exactly. So you can expect Genesis9/Victoria 9 (or at least a new line of figures - whatever they want to call it) in June of 2019.
There have been threads on this. I've made quite a few posts on this subject myself to try and "prepare" people.
If they keep on the same schedule as the past few figure releases, they will continue to put out new figure lines every two years. You have to decide for yourself if you want to pursue the new line every two years or not.
G3F - Where is Anatomical Elements Mat?Load up your G8F and apply the gens. Under characters- Victoria 8 - materials, there is a hierarchical materials preset called Victoria 8 all maps. This will apply the gens materials.
Alternatively there is a separate gens mat lower down in the materials section.
That said, there appears to be a mismatch between the torso and gens Iray shaders, that might require a ticket. It's only affecting the hierarchical materials preset, so it looks like you'll need to apply the separate mat in V8's material folder.
Victoria 8I bought Victoria 8 with head, body, expressions. Not really impressed. I can't get morphs from gen3 to work on gen8 or perhaps they simply won't. Karen, Josie, Lilith and other body shapings don't transfer over. Materials do, but what's the point if shapes don't. Big disappointment here. You'd think you would be able to dial back shapings from gen3.
A lot of the poses don't work properly or are slightly off. I could adjust them manually, but what's the point in purchasing poses then? Clothing works fine. Shoes from gen2 still have trouble, not sure about the compatibility claim there.
I purchased Karen7, Josie7, and Lilith7 in the past year, but would guess a version 8 of them will probably come out in the future. In the future I do hope DAZ give significant discounts on new models if you have an older version.
It looks like a great deal now, but I would hold off purchasing until more gen8 specific content or updates are available. Spent about $70, but right now there's not much I can do with this model.
Genesis 3 still looks great and plenty of content especially with wear-them-all.
No, morphs don't transfer without conversion. But texturtes using the Genesis 3 Female base UVs do, and clothing from all generations of Genesis do (subject to the limits of AutoFit) which is the basis for the sdtatement about being the most backward compatible.
Welcome Back, maelwenn!Hi everyone! Beautiful renders! Thank you i'm so happy you like Lydia. Have fun with her ;)
Isabelle
Thank you for making her, @maelwenn. Please help Victoria 8 win some new friends!

Victoria 8, a bridge too far???A lot of you know me, but this post is not what you might think it is.
I personally think the new Vicky 8 looks fantastic!
I also love the backwards compatibility AND the incredibel buy V8 Pro Bundle get V5, V6, & V7 Pro Bundles Free!
I'm a Carrara user, and V8 won't work for me.
My reason for this post is to ask WHY?
WHY do we need V8 so soon?
Just look at some of the new characters for V4 (in one of the other stores), look what they can do with THAT technology.
Daz has yet to fully push its Victoria 6 to the limits of its technology!
Not to mention Victoria 7.
I just wish you guys let the technology breathe a little. I have no doubt in short order you could have gotten V8 quality renders out of V6!
I'm not saying don't try to make great looking figures, just use what you have and make it stretch.
Considering we're always getting the excuse that the reason we don't have the variety of things for Genesis 3 characters that you find in V4 is because V4 was around longer, than I guess at this rate we'll never move beyond skimp wear for the Gen 4 phase.
Genesis 8 / Victoria 8 PowerPose problem and V8 skin problemFirst the powerpose problem
There is a video on youtube and in that there are so many more dots for the face which do not shop up for me.
I am running the latest Daz Studio version.
The Vicotoria 8 skin is very strange in that the lips show VERY bright no matter what makeup I am using and just the standard DS light.
Petra
(corrected title as it seems you meant powerpose, not poserpose)
