ToonyCam Pro vs pwToon: Which would you recommend?
Even though I now have pwToon, I am interested in other people's experience with either products. And I'd love to see more renders!
ToonyCam Pro vs pwToon: Which would you recommend?Edit: Ah, I'm talking about the pwToon shaders. I use Toonycam pro.It still looks really good. I picked up pwToon while it was on sale. I may yet get ToonyCam Pro. My biggest concern was which one works best in current versions of DS. I'd read of issues with TCP and later versions of DS. Then Sickleyield and Fuseling came out with their Anime Character Builder which "requires" ToonyCam Pro. That got me wondering if TCP has been updated to work with DS 4.8... hence this thread.
ToonyCam Pro vs pwToon: Which would you recommend?I actually use both! Here's a demo render I did using the Kururu for G2F using both:
https://imgur.com/urJSIk2That's rendered through toonycam using the pwToon shaders for the hair, though I usually use them for a lot more. It's a pretty low quality render, I just threw it together to show the creator of the morph that it works well. Default everything as far as morphs and surfaces go. That scene is i13's private party (I think?)
Edit: Ah, I'm talking about the pwToon shaders. I use Toonycam pro.
ToonyCam Pro vs pwToon: Which would you recommend?I recommend pwToon, it has a lot of features.
If you go with pwToon you should get the Crescent's pwToon Cel Shaders presets:
http://www.sharecg.com/v/69733/browse/21/DAZ-Studio/Crescents-pwToon-Cel-Shaders
And the tutorials:

http://cyonixgfx.deviantart.com/art/pwToon-Tutorial-2-DAZ-Gen-3-257227270
It will help you get started faster, in my opinion.
To understand all of pwToon's features, visit the site:

pwToon was purchased by DAZ 3D and should be compatible with newer DAZ Studio versions going forward.
Here's a previous discussion I recommend: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/48444/i-m-making-a-sci-fi-series-graphic-novel-script-daz-anphotoshop/
ToonyCam Pro vs pwToon: Which would you recommend?I've been wanting to do some comic-style renders for a while, but I've been wary of spending the money on either of these products. And I've tried finding the information I need on the forums using Google's site search. Anyway...
The most pressing questions are:
- How well do they work with DS 4.8?
- Will either one or both work with 4.9 when it's released?
But I also want to know if one works better than the other for specific types of renders, and if so what those are. Things like that.
I'd love to hear from people who have one or the other, or both, and hear what your experinces have been like.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Fields, gardens, and orchardsCheck out these 'Medieval Peasant Life' sets. The first one has cabbages in a field, the second pumpkins. Third on wheat. Lots of good stuff for on a farm.

Edited to add, these are Studio only. Which is why I forgot I had them--they were hidden in an old content directory and before Genesis I worked mainly out of runtimes. Just re-discovered them and everything works fine in Studio 4.5.
It's a shame. I went looking for these today in order to purchase them (they had been on my wishlist for several months), and these four items are no longer available anywhere on DAZ. Now I wish I had purchased them when they were. They really would have been a perfect edition to my final look. I guess DAZ retires items after a while... I'm newer here so maybe they are very old DAZ content, but it's really a loss that they are gone and gone.
These are Reallusion items, Reallusion seem to have left the DAZ store though. You could ask them (they have a store at Rendo) if they're available elsewhere.
Yeah, Taozen, I finally went on a massive Google Search for them last night and realized that Reallusion had created their own website with these items for sale here:
https://www.reallusion.com/contentstore/csproduct.aspx?contentid=AIC310DIENU050120081204001
Although, I wouldn't really call it a 'sale' with their export content marked up to $239 USD for low pixel content.... yeah....
Don't get me wrong! Their items are beautiful! And I'm very sad to see their iClone animation content leave DAZ, since I had planned on animating things once I had collected all of the content that I needed... Still... their content is way past way my budget range - especially for export licenses.
As J0del said, I'll just look into Dexsoft games over at Renderosity - I've have a few medieval items placed on my wishlist there, including some content from Powerage and 1971s, who also makes simple medieval content that is very beautiful.
Alas, however I would have liked to have had that pumpkin patch. It went perfect with my comic theme, but NOT $239 USD perfect. Whatevs--
It is what it is.

@Totte: Low res is okay really. I'm making an anime comic using the PWToon shaders and some free content that I was directed towards on Share CG, so I don't really need to strive for realism at this time, but thank you for the information!
SIDE NOTE: My system configuration is still not on IRay par at this time for Reality DS anyway. I'm still saving bit by bit for more RAM and a better vid card, but damn! Those DAZ PA vendors always keep me adding new items to my wishlist day by day.ANYWAY---- Thank you a million, everyone! And also a HUGE thank you to Chohole for merging the threads. I'm new to any forum ever, so I wasn't sure if one thread was too old, or closed, and whether I had posted in the correct place to begin with.
can't use cartoon shaders on clothesHence my question... which product are you using?
If it is a "skin only" cartoon shader, it will reference to the names of the body surfaces, and "doesn't understand" the name of the clothes surface.
For example: http://www.daz3d.com/pwtoon will work on all surfaces, while http://www.daz3d.com/dg-iray-toon-styles-for-genesis-2 was made for a character and will only apply to the skin of the character.
Is pwtoon 3Delight only?Yes, all the pw shaders are 3Delight only.

Any Iray tricks to generate outlines? How successful has anyone gottne with a Toon render in Iray? I've been doing a ton of work lately in pwToon. I guess that's considered "Old School" now that Iray is here...?
pwToon question -- tiling?pwToon has tiling. Right figure has Horizontal and Vertical tiles set to 1 and left figure set to 4. This is the cartoon classic setting of pwToon and a simple texture so you can see the difference.
pwToon question -- tiling?Ahh, right. ToonyCam is distinct, then.
I had been experimenting with dzToon, and the problem it has is that there is no tiling, either per texture or on the shader overall. So if you had, say, a repeating pattern on clothing, that goes... poorly.
So the answer would be 'ToonyCam doesn't affect shaders, so of course' and ... not sure about the others. (Have you actually applied pwToon and seen that tiling is preserved?)
(I'm considering using ToonyCam, perhaps, with a scene that also functions as Iray; I think in Edge mode it might work)
pwToon question -- tiling?William, I'm trying to understand what you exactly call tiling here and in other posts. Tiling is applied to textures, so toonyCam don't need you add tiling, this works by clamping of color with the camera. So, if you have a design in the cloth texture, and you want tiling the design, then you tile the texture as usual, the camera don't have nothing to do in this part. In the case of manga style this have its own tilings because works directly with several patterns. pwToon don't erase the tiling parameters of textures, so you can use it too for tile the design in the texture.
I don't know how works skunville noir.
Toonycam can be mixed with pwtoon, manga style, and I hope with skunville too. Its ID outline mode is more consistent and robust than others, this reproduce the silhouette exactly, without random variations in width that affect the other outline solutions. Recommendation: Tonnycam + (manga/pwtoon/skunville)
pwToon question -- tiling?Does the pwToon shader have tiling?
For that matter, does:
Camera Magic: ToonyCam Pro
Skunville Noir
Manga Style Shaders
(I'm obviously in the market for a more robust toon technology than dzToon)
Workflow, 3DL, IrayThe version that works is up to you, and your artistic intent. Personally, I prefer the 3DL toon version, as it more closely matches my expectation of "comics."
What toon shader did you use for this, BTW? pwToon?
Need help fixing lighting using PWToonTry messing with the shading color.
Use this online control so you can visually see what that setting does.
Need help fixing lighting using PWToonHi all,
I'm trying to render an indoor scene using PW Toon, but I end up having way to much shadows every single time.
I've tried turning off shadowcasting, changing the shadowcolors of the lights to white, turning back shadow intensity to zero, changing specular color of all the assets to white, turning of the interior line, but nothing helps...
I always get the result I've attached to this message... The "second half of the hallway is always rendered almost solid black...
If anyone knows a good setup for lights to use with toon-style shading, please let me know...
Thanks a lot,
Me
Anything like this for Poser???I use olivier's art materials at rdna and use the shaderworks python scripts to apply the materials all in one hit.
I notice with that PW toon example there weren't any transmaps. I have used PWtoon in the past and can't remember if it had a problem with transmaps or not. a lot of tooning software does. But the example I give above from rdna, works fine with transmapped clothes, hair, eyelashes etc.
Love esther
PWTOON and Layered ImageI am using PWTOON for my characters.
When I use a PNG file on LAYERED IMAGE EDITOR ( Tatoo ), the face turns black while rendering though it looks perfect in preciew mode.
Any idea ?
Garibaldi Express: Hair and Fur Plugin [Commercial]Oh yes, SpyroRue, that helps a lot. Thank you. So happy that they included different shaders, and I think I will make the duplicate node, since one scene will lead to the next in the comic. I did notice that only the object is shown, so I might have some minor trouble with that unless I figure out a way to interact with say another character in the scene. Example, grabbing someone with the hair. Would a special prop that has the hair color as a fur work out? I could use that, if I pose it, then adjust the node. I still haven't tested it with pwtoon, which uses the material tab, I've been styling it first.
I've been playing with it a lot and really like the results so far. It's far from done but I really love the selection. I'll be eventually updating my picture, once I am done with my testing character, which is my avatar. PWtoon might not like the fur, it's very picky when it comes to fine detail (bumps/displacement maps are a huge no) so I will have to test that. Speaking of fur, how can I add the texture? Does/Can it take from the objects texture? My character has a map on her that is supposed to be her fur markings.
