  • Crowds in Daz

I didn't respond because I have no idea what the question means.

    "without rendering from the CPU".

Does that mean ONLY using the video card? Cause that's a setting in the Render Settings tab.

Or does the OP mean - without being forced to drop back down to CPU because you don't have enough RAM to support/load/use multiple Daz figures?

Crowds are still an issue. I saw a recent product that is a city with corwds of people for far, overhead shots.

  • Genesis 9 to 3 and 8 Pose Converter (Commercial)

I recently moved my DAZ content to an external drive to speed up my CPU. Everything except these converters work fine. The scripts no longer react. I don't even get error messages.

I put my content on an external drive using the conventional DAZ path except F: instead of C:. I changed my DAZ IM and DAZ Central defaults to the F: drive. Nothing. But as I said, all the other scripts and content went seamlessly. I didn't drag content to the new drive. I reinstalled to the F: and deleted the C: AFTER seeing F: worked.

Any ideas? And thanks in advance.

Non-complaint:  It's that time of year again.  The winter clouds are gone, the Robins are back and pecking at the exposed grass amongst the remaining snow patches, the sun has moved around to the narrow spot where it shines through my kitchen window in the morning, and I'm up at the right time to see spectrums on my white refrigerator from the prisms in my kitchen window.  Wheee... Spring, and color.smiley

We always have Robins around here.  The ones that go south for the winter get replaced by a heartier bunch that come down from Canada.  Strange that you don't have the same.  I'm in Massachusetts, not that far from you, latitudinally.

...we rarely have robins in the central city. Mostly pigeons and crows, lots and lots of crows that fill the sky just around sunset like a scène from Hitchcock's The Birds.

Where i am there is a small wetland park which is frequented by ducks in the spring an dearly summer who nest in the cattails and reeds.  Often it is not unusual to see a mom duck and her ducklings in he pond. Occasionally I've seen a blue Heron wading in the pond as well.

  • Which DAZ files to Save for a Clean Windows Install?

    Richard Haseltine said:

You mean to preserve settings? Unfortunately some are in the registry, but a lot for Daz Studio, Install manager, and the content database are in

    %appdata%/daz 3d/

Just make sure that all of the applicaitons are closed before trying to back it up.

If you install through DIM or Daz Central you will also want the Manifests folder, which defaults to the Public Documents folder on C: that is what tells DIM what it has installed, and where.

Is this the folder that can be Copy and Pasted to preserve the settings and other stuff? See attachment.

    Hi product makers,

I was wonderingn if someone could make a HD lip morph that has the vertical groove in the centre of the lower lip and the two bulges on each side but without all those tiny llittle lumpy bits over the whole lip, that no doubt the vendor feels make the character look realistic. I'm going for a toon look anyway but even if i wasn't, lipstick makes those lumps disappear and honestly, in my opinion, those little tiny lumps and lines all over the lips  just make the characters look older than i want, and don't add a lot to realism.  Whilst i do appreciate that the look does have a place, i would love it if there were some more HD characters that just had the main lip shape with the central groove. i find that beebite look is hard to reproduce with just dials because of the lack of polys in the base figure.  But all the characters that have the look i'm after with the central line/groove, also have the other little grooves and lines all over the whole lip which i don't want.

  • Is it possible to save place on my library without loosing my add-ons?

Depending on your system, a second internal drive would be the more optimal solution, external and networked drives can add a bit of lag and increased load times.

i wouldn't recommend less than a 2TB drive, as that may give you enough head room for your studio library, as well as local backup of purchased assets(zip, exe, etc). .Depending on your purchasing habits, and how much you work in studio, that is.

I don't recommend a split solution,as that causes several problems for the user, but migrate your entire library over to the new drive, and delete the previous location.

Once you copy it over, you'll just need to change the install path for DIM, connect or central(depending on install method), and the path in CDM(content directory manager).

Lastly, get one more drive, so you can back your entire system up, including the new drive.

3-2-1 is your friend. and a heck of alot cheaper than data recovery is.

Back  during our brief spell pf "real winter", we had 2 - 3' of snow one day and all the schools were closed. as well as even some offices and businesses.   When i grew up in Wisconsin it would take at least a foot and a half (with snow still coming down at about an inch and hour) to close the schools. I still find it a bit amusing when people here freak out over what back in the upper midwest we would call ""a dusting".

Yeah... Central MN here, and I feel like there were usually only one or two snow days a year when I was a kid, and more often it was due to dangerous windchills than snow accumulations, which would usually only delay start by a couple hours.

The Halloween Blizzard of '91 was epic, though.

Year living by oneself does have its perks and also its drawbacks.  Nice to never have to wait to get in the loo, find a pile of dirty dishes cups pots & pans in the sink that I didn't use (one place I where lived with others, I would often wake up to find the sink and every square inch of counter space piled with dishes pots & pans [the annoying part was they had a dishwasher]), or worry about find being stolen, or woken up by loud music at 02:30.   Though yeah, times when you need assistance like recovering from surgery or an injury, it can be a real pain...literally.

So very depends on the roommates, doesn't it? My ex- would just pile on if I was injured or sick, and then go lock himself in his basement bedroom/man cave to get drunk and play video games for the night, and tell me if I couldn't handle taking care of our toddler, I should call my parents, "because that's what they're there for." The basement was literally 4 feet deep in empty booze bottles, used Kleenex, and worse, and the rest of the house would've been, too, if I hadn't been constantly cleaning it. We had to use snow shovels to deal with it all when I got to change the locks after the divorce went through.

My 13-year-old, on the other hand, is the most considerate roommate a person could wish for. Which I figure means full grown adults have no excuse.

I'm sooo bored right now... I've been sitting in my daughter's car outside the NYFD's Brooklyn tech center while she is waiting inside to take the physical test... I got here 9:30AM and it's now 1:40 or so...
Typical NYC efficiency. It's a 15 minute test if even.
I made friends with a pigeon in the meantime and after twenty minutes he got bored with me... I think I've read the entire internet. Spoiler: it's stupid.
Man I used to work in this area and I don't recognize half the streets anymore... it's like midtown manhattan now, all hi-rise condos and offices.
    Boo.
Luckily the police stationed outside let me park here otherwise I'd be having to park blocks and blocks and blocks and blocks away.
I wonder where Mr. Rottywings went...
That's the name I gave the pigeon... he looked like he had wing mange or was run over by something heavy... like maybe a couple of monster trucks or a smalll armored vehicle... I mean he's a NYC pigeon, so he's probably just fine... they all look a little dead eventually.
Well before they actually die... it might be a fashion statement of some sort.
There is a building nearby that looks like Saron's tower...
I feel like the developer ran an ad for the architects that went something like "Must be well versed in the lore of middle earth and in their dreams stand naked before the unblinking eye of despair and torment"
I feel like the Mordor aesthetic might be classic but it's a hard sell... "All the beauty and luxury of Barad-dûr, but with elevators and a view of lower manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge!"
    Oh! Mr. Rottywings is back!

Nevermind... it was a greasy paper bag blowing by...

Wait... where the hell did the sun go?... it's all cloudy now and getting colder.

Friggin' paper bag wouldn't make friends with me... just keeps blowing back and forth so aloofly... like it's all that.
    Stupid stuck up paper bag.

I just watched som lady across the street walk into a bent over No Parking sign (99% of NYC signs are one form or another of no parking signs)... that looked pretty painful.

Okay my daughter is back. Gotta go... Cheers!

... ...cool that you stopped by.

Well our little dose of May weather is over.  3 days close to 70° At least it temps well be more a round nirmal for this time of year, no more big  freeze.  Shows how acclimated I have biome to the climate our here  35 ° is now uncomfortably cold whereas February in in north central Wisconsin where I lived that would feel like spring has arrived.

Have you moved your content library?

Those look like Daz Central root paths, then it is placing the resources in the application folder - did you get a UAC prompt when installing?

I didn't get any prompt. I Clicked on Download in the Install Manager and it downloaded and then installed it.

I am not sure whether UAC would protect a non-standard application folder - though DIM should be trying to run anything that installs "like software" through DIMHelper, with elevated permissions, so the permission eelvation ought to trigger UAC regardless of destination folder.

    Thanks!

  • Removing all Daz components from C drive to reinstall on D drive

I was involved with Daz a few years ago when I wanted to move it to D and at that time I was warned by techs here that I might not be able to get all the components from C to D. I ws able to move the Studio and Daz Central over, and they worked, but I see that now I have 12 GB of Daz still on my C drive, and it's at max. I installed the DIM to upgrade Studio and it installed to C too. I was not given a choice as to where to install DIM. So now DIM, Studio and Central are all back on my C drive. Central won't even open. It's giving me a fatal error. And Studio opens, but crashes when trying to open a product. DIM is the only thing that seems to be opening and working properly. I think I must have some conflicts going on with Daz now being on both C and D drives. I would like to remove everything and start over, only using my D drive. Is that possible now? Can I make sure in some way that they all install on D if i uninstall and reinstall?

  • Daz Launches minimized and will not maximize

Well, entering your command in Power Shell got me into DAZ 4.22, at least.  My Content Library is now empty, but I'd been working from an XHD, so I'd probably just have to remap it again.  Resetting the layout didn't do anything, though.  I can still only get in through that Power Shell cleanlaunch, which I suspect might bring its own problems were I to rely on it.

I don't know if this is significant, but neither version of DAZ that I have currently installed (4.22 or 4.23) shows up in my computer's installed app list.  DIM and Daz Central are there and functioning normally, but no sign of DAZ3D itself.

This is not a house, but rather a bedroom environment and I am not sure I would describe it as 'abandoned', https://www.daz3d.com/abandoned-room. It could be a bedroom that one might rent in an older home in the late 19th/early 20th centuries where electricity was added decades after it was built. The electrical box near the door is a rocker style that might have been a later upgrade?

Well, those spiderwebs show that it isn't "abandoned", only just now not housing any humans probably. wink

Collective3D not offers houses, btw, but also the Create a Room sets... nice to use when other rooms come with too unusual room shapes and one has a shipload of furniture already wink

I was going to mention the 'webbing' because my old home on the Central Coast of California was infested with spiders. No matter how much I cleaned, dusted, sprayed or whatever, webs showed up in the ceilings overnight, under the beds, couches, desks, windows... And I am phobic about them. The temperatures there is perfect for insects to thrive. And the ceilings were tall. I watch home shows and see any house with a 1.5 - 2.5 story room height ceiling and my thoughts go to cleaning and heating/cooling those rooms. And dripping spider webs.

I love Colorado and its minus degree temperatures. Great spider kill-off method.

I did, but it's still WIP. As you can see, it's still a little too angular compared to the original, and the central peak is going down too low. So I'll tweak it after I finish the face.

    Quasar said:

The curve and transition of the nose bridge is much better than mine, and her nose looks improved in the newest image. It could be a bit wider where the nostrils are, but the shape of her philtrum is better on yours than mine. The top lip does need to be thinner, though, and I think the bottom eyelid does drop down too low.

I made a few changes to mine. It's tough to get the face to look like the 2D image, and then even tougher to add depth so it looks nice in profile lol. I don't know if it works well in my case. I believe all the morphs are from the G8 head morphs pack and 200+ like I listed above.

Thanks for the advice! And yours is looking good as well. Could be her sister or something :) I'll need a few more drow characters, so I'd use yours if you don't mind.

Yes, it was fantastic. I re-wired it before we bought it, re-slated the holes in the roof, we had central heating in by the second winter (first winter was chilly, one day the air temp in the warmest room was -6C/21F). A thorough clean got rid of the cat smell. Took us 8 years before all the rooms were made really habitable, then we did a loft conversion, added a conservatory and extended the kitchen into the old coal shed and outside toilet. Had to have new windows throughout and I rebuilt the top 14 courses of the 4 flue chimney (I do hate heights, so that wasn't fun). Regards, Richard.

Wow, you are quite energetic. It sounds like you added tremendous value to the home.

Well, it was 32 years ago.. When we moved, the house was about 50% more than would have been expected if it's value had gone up in line with local house prices. Unfortunately, it was still less than 50% of our current house's cost, so the mortgage when we moved 20 years ago felt eye watering. Regards, Richard.
