Olympia 8
Reading all the comments makes me feel like I've dropped into the Twilight Zone. I think she looks stunning!! Really beautiful!
it is amusing don't you think that usually the complaint is each figure is toooo pretty/perfect not average everday looking or is youngish looking needs to be more mature older looking or toooo skinny and then they give us that or try to and then still complaints saying she's ugly or fat or old or butch the only female figure I've seen relised that everyone raved over was Star. Oh well can't please everyone. I also look at the related extras you can buy which gives you more an idea of the newer character/s some interesting like the add on clothing textures or poses and so on as sometimes these better display the potential of the new characters and there are a few there that show off both the tough gritty side as well as more softer side of Olympia, Victoria and Gen8 as well as some of the add on characters. Got pro yeah maybe could've just gone for the base but want a few things to get going yeah she and Vicky can use older stuff but still nice to have few of their own things too and I think the archery set is ok too has that action comic suoer hero vibe feel to it would buy some of the extras if could afford
lol Yeah. Can't please everyone, that's for sure. One thing I think MIGHT be causing (or at least contributing to) the complain-fest is that there is a lot of really negative stuff going on in the world right now, and I think that might be affecting both people's moods as well as making them a LOT more picky about what they spend their money on. (That's just a theory though.)
I absolutely love Olympia 8 and will be getting her as soon as I'm able to get some money coming in. :)
(Released) EcVh0 Pale Skin Shader for Genesis 8 Female [Commercial]Just a quick tip for everyone who has this. If you have gotten the Olympia 8 pro or Beginners pack the character Sharah comes with SSS maps that can be used with this shader with no alteration, and she comes with her make up baked into the SSS maps too so you don't have to mess with them either. Plus they all come in Brow and No Brow options. So it really is as easy as plugging in her SSS maps into the Translucency Chanel and perhaps changing the Specular map for her own to have another skin for this shader with no extra work. You can use it with the original shader EcVh0 has as well. This example shows the differences you get with Olympia 8's SSS (Face), Sharah's (Torso) and Victoria 8's SSS maps as well (Legs) with the original shader but the arms show how Shara's work with the pale shader too. Sorry for the crappy render it was just a viewport proof of concept test that I screen captured to save time.
(Released) EcVh0 Skin Shader for Genesis 8 Female [Commercial]Some good news for people who have this but aren't sure about changing settings or altering skin maps in Photoshop to get different results. Olympia 8 and Sharah (who comes in the Olympia 8 Pro and Starter bundles) come with SSS maps that work perfectly with this shader. All you need to do is after you apply the shader is to swap out the transulucency map that is set automatically with Olympia 8's Sub Surface shader for a darker look and Sharah for a lighter one. Olympia comes with the same type of layered make up as Victoria 8 does and Sharah even comes with her make up baked into the SSS map. Both even come with or without brows. So if you invested in this product the Olympia 8 packs give you more options without having to change anything other than the Translucency map (and perhaps the specular map as well). Here is a quick render of Sharah (I can't help thinking that it's just Sean Connery calling her Sarah. LOL) using the original shader and the second picture is a very quick viewport render to show some of the varience the different maps give you. The Face is Olympia 7, the Torso Sharah and the legs are using Victoria 8's SSS to show that you can even use it as well. The arms are using Sharah's SSS with EcVh0's pale shader to show that you can even use it with that as well without needing to change anything but the maps! Give them a try and happy rendering!
Can someone explain Conform/Parent/Autofit?- Sometimes when I open up an item it asks me waht that this item was originaly made for, and what kind of item it is. Is this Autofit in action, and why doesn't it always show up?
- If an item does not use autofit for some reason, how do I adjust its fit so that it moves when the figure pose moves? Is there a way to save this new "fit" as a setting so I can use it every time?
- Is it generally easy to convert poses/clothing/hair for genesis XX male to genesis XX female, and vice versa? Or does it vary by item?
1. is AutoFit - a way to take a conformer/fitted item made for another figure and convert it to the current figure. Fit to is the same as Conform to, one for DS and the other for Poser .
2. do you mean it doesn't fit to the figure automatically? Either use the Fit button in the Parameters pane or right-click on the item in the viewport and select Fit ITEMNAME to...; in the dialogue that opens select the figure you want to fit to. If an item is made for a figure that doesn't have an AutoFit clone for the current figure you either need to make or buy a clone shape, if possible, or manualy adjust the item to fit and then use the Transfer Utility to rig it to the figure you want to use it with.
3. it varies, though there are scripts to help with some of the common combinations.
(Also, while I have you here, how would I say, set about adapting victoria 4 hair to a genesis or genesis 3 male?)
Hair is often best not AutoFit but loaded without fitting, parented, and then scaled/rotated/translated to fit -you can apply a Smoothing Modifier (Edit>Figure>Apply Smoothing Modifier) and set the collision target to the wearer to deal with awkward spots.
July 2017 - Daz 3D New User Challenge - Portrait RenderingHello all you guys!
So i was playing around with DS this evening and thought i'd make a contribution to the new user challenge. I've been using DS for a couple of months, and needless to say i am still learning and honing my skills. At the moment i'm away from my main rig, so i decided to do some rendering on my laptop. Iray renders were out of the question (business laptop), so i decided to play around with 3Delight. I'm positively surprised with how capable 3Delight actually is. This is what i came up with.
"Cosmic Spin"
Software used: DAZ 3D Studio 4.9. Model: Victoria 7 with Adriana hair for G3F by Wolfie. All of her clothing is from Little Secret II for G3F by Pretty 3D.
My idea with the render was to capture a clockwise spinning/dancing motion that slows down throghout the image series, and something that also gives the image noticable depth (love working with DOF!). I made 6 renders in total and included 2 of them here in the contest.
Really happy with this new found hobby; finally i can release my creativity through something. Any and all unput much appriceated!
Olympia 8I am surprised there is no additional discount offered to Victoria 8 Pro Bundle buyers. Heck, I just bought the 2 nerd bundles yesterday + own Victoria 8 Pro bundle - you woulda thunked they'd offer me a sweeter deal for Olympia 8 - who looks so very much like Victoria 8, just better fed and more fitness conscious, I guess.
There seems to be a discount for O7 and/or O6 owners.
There is?? Hmmm...must be other requirements that I haven't met I guess *shrug*

I have a 63% discount on the pro bundle when I put it in the cart. I own both O6 and O7, that must be the trigger for the bigger discount, although I haven't seen any official word about it anywhere.
Yse, there seems to be a discount for people who have the items being offered free - there should apparently be a message ("orange banner"), daz is looking into why we aren't seeing it.
Orange banner appeared! :)
Olympia 8I like the look of her and tbh, if one looks close enough, one can find similarities just about anywhere. Its a thoroughly subjective thing. Since I had only purchased one of the base Olympia figures previously, today's offer was a very good one for me.
For those commenting that she does not look "different" enough from previous characters, I would say this: Get out there and make the different character you want to see. Add a little Olympia, a little Victoria and then go crazy with the individual shaping options. One thing that has always amazed me is the sheer amount of possibilities we have at our fingertips .
Can someone explain Conform/Parent/Autofit?Hello!
I keep seeing references to things like hair being "conformed" or "parented" vs "autofitted" and I was wondering what that meant. In particular, I've been trying to read through this guide but I can't really understand bits of it. Here's the sentence that confuses me
For Millennium 1-4 and others figures hair, clothes, shoes and accessories are conformed or parented.
For Genesis 1-3, 8 hair, clothes, shoes and accessories are autofited, a few are parented.
All figures can be posed and setting with expressions. Expressions until generation 6 are actually morphs. For generation 7-8 these are poseable. Here are a list of some of my questions:
- Sometimes when I open up an item it asks me waht that this item was originaly made for, and what kind of item it is.
(Also, while I have you here, how would I say, set about adapting victoria 4 hair to a genesis or genesis 3 male?)
My apologies for having so many threads at the moment! I've just got so many questions and their topics are so different!

Ah then, there were other requirements: I didn't buy the pro bundle. LOL. I got what I wanted separately ;).

Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 9Weird eyebrows, and the bow and archery poses in the pro-bundle hurt just looking at them, but I like her better than Victoria 8, so I'll probably get her.
I totally agree- I'm known for being eyebrow picky and these seem like such a step backward, the painted on look and in some promos, downright shiny. I like the Daphne character's eyebrows (not the overall shape of the face from the 3/4 view though, will fill out the cheek slightly I think) so I may pick her up and just put her on Gen8F. I won't use the outfits, nor the poses, so I don't see getting any bundles. Lethal Rogue outfit looks okay but again, I don't need it anytime soon.
I'm wondering if an orange banner will pop up later this morning for owners of the previous versions, so even if I were going to buy, I think I'd wait for a few hours until the employees get to work.
I just assumed she had fiber brows, like Victoria 8. Your comments made me look closer at her promo page and, yep, she has separate eyebrows.

So no need to use Brow Remover on her... I hope they keep this up. "Mix and match eyebrows" for the whole "8" lineup...! Of, course, we'll still need Brow Remover for most/all of the G8F characters from PAs. And this is the first pro bundle in a long time that I liked both hair products.
Not that I'm buying any "8" figures anytime soon. So far, I've only succumbed to buying shoes for G8. (I got the Mega Wardrobe, too, but that was so I could use it on G3F,) two of Cayman's Legacy UVs, (G2F and V4,) and two pose packs that included G8F, (Khory's Well Heeled Poses and Dragon Reign Poses.)
I am tempted to buy today's hair, though, (One is even named after me, Anita Hair...! LOL Not that I ever wore my hair like that...) Using Sickleyields tutorial, I could make those work on G3F... It's close enough to August, if I wait, I can use next month's coupon. And if the promo is still active, get a couple of multi-generation hairs from my wishlist, too. (Fingers crossed.)

Olympia 8To be honest, does not look much different from Victoria 8. Olympia 7 looks more detailed and unique. And the eyebrows look like they are painted on instead of hair.
Exactly my reaction - just a different physique.
Olympia 8I guess what I want to know is: what do the character names _mean_? Victoria is the flagship model. Sure, that's fine. Josie is the teenage model. Great! But I thought Olympia was the Greek goddess, the Queen... not the pseudo-Greek action girl. I know a lot of characters were new with 7 so I'm trying not to count too much on Eva the supermodel and Arabella the vampire and Lilith the sexy witch and Bethany the chubby and Karen the idealized superheroine. But Gia is the athletic one, right?
Victoria 8 and Carrara 8.5I decided to try to return Victoria 8 for a refund not store credit.
Olympia 8She really does look an awful lot like Victoria 8. I hate to say this but it's probably down to a little laziness on DAZ's part. Why put the effort in to make a unique looking figure when they probably think people will buy the pro bundle anyway. If Eva 8 (or whoever) is another same face then I'll be pretty much done with anymore Daz Original figures for this generation.
