  • How to create a morph for the head only ?

Morph the whole figure msh, but don't change the bits you din't want to chnage - if the only changes are to the head then it will be a "head morph". A morph is just a list of changes in position, if the change is zero in a given area the morph will have no effect; morphs add, so having the default shape won't prevent you from applying other shapes.

I've been using Studio since 2014, so I've been here for a few figure upgrades.

Others like me and some that have been here longer have seen this all before.

The new characters usually are better.Yes, there are things to fix with the new G9 characters. Nobody has it perfect.

G9 has better backwards compatibility than when we upgrade from G2 to G3/V7.

    ---

Just so you know. I don't like any of the new characters so far either.

I don't like the way the female genitalia deforms when the character is posed. ( yes I used to adjustment sliders, but they have no affect on that body region.)

I don't like the "beer belly" they all have. I'm looking for the toned "bikini bridge" tummy.

I don't like the masculine female faces.

I don't like the belly button. It looks like someone push a finger into a lump of clay.

I don't like that makeup is now LIE overlay only, or painted on to the texture maps. Lot's of issues with this, and isn't easy to work with.

There's a couple other things I'm not sure if I like or not at this point.Like HD only nipple morphs.

I do like V9 HD skins. They are the best I've seen or have been able to work with on any Daz character.

I will buy G9/V9 characters when someone makes one I find attractive or interesting, but so far that hasn't happened.

So far the only character I've seen that I thought was up to par with their G8/8.1 content is bluejaunte's character. The others are, IMVHO, awful so far - other than the DO's Mike and Vicky. I bought the Bachelor and Bachelorette Mega Bundle, but not for the characters, which I think are terrible and I'll never use them. I apologize to the PA's, but I can't help how I feel about them. In my opinion (and it's just that, so take with a grain of salt...lol), I made better faces with a few small custom morphs and the G9 morph packages.

What can I say - practice makes perfect. Also, don't forget to check out some anatomy for the artists tutorials! It takes a long time to get reasonably proficient in shaping heads, so don't expect super-duper results in a matter of weeks.

You will also have to become acquainted with this tutorial to create a head morph you may use properly and upload online:

I would add that whenever you begin sculpting, zero your figure, so you don't get distorted geometry from the otherwise active HD morphs in Genesis 9 (the navel), in Genesis 8 and 8.1 - the whole mouth and teeth area.

With Genesis 9 you might have to create a morph controlled morph for the eyes. Here is how:

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/creating_content/assembling/tutorials/creating_morph_controlled_morphs/start

To round out and update his last tutorial - in DAZ 4.21 you will have to go into Edit mode in the Parameters tab/ morph loader for Genesis 9 eyes (right-click, select Edit Mode at the top of the menu), next, with your proper eye morph selected, go into the right-click menu again and choose "Property Hierarchy" at the bottom of the list. A pop-up window will show up - click on the arrow next to the name of your character morph (not the eye morph!) and drag the eye morph from the Parameters Tab onto "Link:" and in "Sub-components" onto 2nd Stage:  Multiply/Divide. That will link the eye morph to the character morph, so when you dial in the character ,the eyes move automatically into place.

I am writing this from memory, so this description might be a bit wonky but I think it altogether provides enough information for you to figure the rest out.

That tutorial has some bad advice, the worst of which is baking the Daz and other third-party morphs to OBJ and loading them as a single morph. Even for single-user use this is not desirable as it loses all the links to corrective morphs and joint adjustments, but it is absolutely forbidden for characters that are to be distributed as it is not requiring the end user to own and have installed the component morphs used. The correct route is to keep the original shaping dialed in after exporting and to load the OBJ with the Reverse Deformations option on, so that only the chnages made in the modelling/sculpting application are in the new morph, then use ERC freeze to link that to the Daz/third-party morphs used.

    Thanks for that clarification.

  • How to create a morph for the head only ?

I want to create a morph only for the head, using a character with a compatible mesh, but Morph Loader Pro will make a morph for the whole body.
I tried to use Morph Loader Advanced, but if in the combobox of this utility I select the head, it creates a faulty morph that distorts the whole body.
Of course, in my 3D software I could create a compatible mesh by taking the head I'm interested in and gluing it to the base body, but there's probably an easier way to do that.

  • Dforce: How to add additional frames after the final pose frame?

dForce doesn't store its state on exit so you cannot esume a simulation, you have to start over (or export as OBJ and import as a morph, but it will still lose the infromation about momentum and energy from the last step of the previous simulation).

Before I bought that bundle I had been playing around with the Gen9 Starter Esssentials (i.e. for free) and following SickleYield's old tutorial for moving morphs by Transfer Utility from older to newer generations. It works pretty well. Here is Sanjay 8 moved to Gen9 with Skin02 from the Starter essentials, and one of my own Blender-made head morphs for G8M moved to Gen9 with Skin01.

Also a dial-spun female using just the assymetrical face morphs from the free starter essentials.

Two other examples with everyone's fan favorite, Maxx.

The simplified instructions are as follows. Please note, you may have to individually scale the eyeballs manually for certain figures. This is just my first go at it, so I can't say these scales are 100% spot on, but works well enough to share.

    1. Load G9 and a G8M
    2. On G8M, turn off visibility on the left and right eye joint so they are hidden.
    3. Delete mouth, eyelashes, and tears
    4. Make sure hidden properties is checked and visible.
    5. Dial in the g8m clone under Hidden->Clones
    6. Make the g9 figure invisible and then select the g9 eyes and set resolution to base
    7. Select the left eye joint and scale the left eye joint to 125%, set y translate to -2.65 and X translate to .13
    8. repeat with right eye joint but make the X translate -.13
    9. At this point, I would eyeball how good the g9 eyes look on the g8 figure as they should be roughly the same height and size. These numbers are just my first couple of tests and what I found to be close.
    10. Export the g9 eyes with all setting at default and scale at 100%
    11. import the eyes with default and scale at 100%
    12. Asset transfer g8m to g9 eyes obj, leave all on default settings.
    13. Then hide the g8 body and select the new g9 eyes and go to geometry editor
    14. User the lasso tool and circle the left eye ball to high light all left eye geometry then assign to the lEye face group. Repeat the same for the right side assigning it the rEye face group.
    15. Under surfaces, remove the "_" in all the surface names and replace with " "
    16. Under the g9 eyeball, expand the joints and then select the left eye, now change the to the node weight map brush. Select general weight and paint the entire left eye red.
    17. Now select the right eyeball joint and repeat.
    18. With the new "g9 eyeball" prop selected, go to edit -> object -> geometry -> Convert to Subd
    19. You will need to do one last thing. On the original genesis 9 eye props. Select either the left or right eye surface and then in a folder in your content tree where you want this to live, do a "save shader preset" and save the eye surface (just one) as a g9 shader.
    20. Finally, in the same content tree folder, do a "save material preset" and then save the eyemoisture surfaces. Do not save the eye left or right one.
    21. At this point you can save this out as a prop.

This is probably beyond my skill level (judging the results of my first attempt) but i am keen to get it right... the promising thing is i was able to follow the tutorial to the end but i must have made some mistakes... when i loaded my saved materials onto my new prop it only effected the right eye, the left eye turned transparent, also when i tried to load another material from the gen 9 starter essentials nothing happened.

    Things i wasn't sure about...

    15. Under surfaces, remove the "_" in all the surface names and replace with " "  (does this mean replace the _ with a space or just remove it?)

    16. now change to the node weight map brush. Select general weight and paint the entire left eye red. (when i selected general weight the eye turned red anyway and when i painted it, it was with a slightly transparent yellow... i've never been in that tool before so that must be the default setting, does that sound right?)

    21. At this point you can save this out as a prop. ( is that...  save as > support asset > Figure/prop assets?)

Thank you for the tutorial and i hope you (or anyone who knows better than me) can guide me to a successful outcome yes

Most of the time what that message means is that a morph asset in Product A, is looking to link with a morph asset in Product B but can't find it.

In this case "head_Nisha%20Smile.dsf" is looking for "eCTRLHappy_HD.dsf" and can't find it, now "eCTRLHappy_HD.dsf" is part of the G8F Expressions product, so if you don't own it then it's no surpise it can't be found.

Oh and 2 minute load times are nothing, I've help people on here who had load times of over an hour.

Hello Pugwash, I'm currently out of office so only a short reply from my mobile. Yes, an Easy Shape Master for Genesis 9 is on my schedule that includes Masculine and Feminine morphs to get younger and older looking shapes plus adjustments for face and body, like the previous version had as well. This time standalone, so no requirements except the base figure. The current versions available here are for Genesis 8 only, correct. Best wait for the release and then decide by the promos and feature list if you need it beside other morph sets. Personally I prefer to have lots of sets in my library for a broad variety to adjust and tune characters. Hope that helps.

  • Corrupted Genesis 8 Base Female issue

I KNOW (or deeply suspect) that this is a PEBKAC problem, the result of trying to edit/save several character morphs too fast, so help/tip/pointers are requested.

Somehow, I've managed to corrupt my Genesis 8 Base Female model. I was playing around with several character morphs, and now I have the base character corrupted with the morph. When I call for the Genesis 8 (or 8.1) base models, they come with the morph applied.  I can recover the base shape model by then zeroing out the figure (Edit->Figure->Zero-> ), but then, if I load any other G8F character I have, the character is loaded on the corrupted base G8.

I have completely deleted the associated morph files (original character and associated data morph files) from the corresponding DATA and PEOPLE folders.

Using Install Manager, I've removed  and reloaded the Genesis 8 Female (and male) starter essentials; cleared the caches (using the F2 preferences dialog.)

In the image, the G8F base model is in blue basic wear. The G8F 'zeroed figure' model is in pink basic wear.

Any suggestions to help recover the G8F base model?

    ekajuan_9f765a669b said:

What does Morph Loader mean when it says, the geometry didn't match?
Is it the number of polygon?

The reason I'm asking this, because I want to DETACH the genesis head from neck above to use it for certain process in Zbrush. Zwrap.

I'm going to use the head mesh generated by Character Creator 4 - Headshot plugin,
Wrap the Genesis head to the generated head, in zbrush,
Then reattached the genesis head back to its body.

The reason of detaching the head is for simpler process in zbrush.

Cant you just import the whole Genesis figure body into Zwrap, and then exclude all but the head geometry for the Wrap.

There are many videos on youtube that detail the node set up for wrapping in either of the two Wrap softwares (R3DS Wrap and ZWrap)

When importing back to Morph Loader, you can use Head deformer Weight Map to apply the morph only to Head if needed (although probably not needed if you did Apply/Replace steps properly)

I havent used ZWrap but my R3DS Wrap usually looks something like attached, sometimes I tweak before exporting by adding some extra steps.

Anyway, if you want to detach and then  reattach, that will change vert order.  One way to restore vertex order is by using one of several Blender addons. There's one such addon on Gumroad that everyone uses.

But your problem at moment is not vert order issue, your problem is vert count issue.  You should check the vert count didnt change when you attached and reattached.  But as i mentioned eariler, that's not necessary anyway.

  • Genesis 8 or 8.1 shapes on genesis 9?

Made an Aged G8F character morph with aging presets, and the HD morphs from an elderly character (Olivya May). Morph transferred both over to V9 and morphed out the baseline G8F character. All G8F Auto-Fitted clothes, Zeddicuss Aged pose (lightly tweaked) and some D-Force simulation for the clothes. V9 expressions. Interestingly I had to shrink the eyes in the Z scale to 99% to keep the eyes behind the eyelids. Just a character study I had an itch to try. TD

@Cayman I've used the script like the PDF suggests, and you're quite right only the Head texture is loaded, not the Face. The script isn't loading it. Rosa Maria and Victoria 8.1 don't have that problem, only Crow so far. Here's what I'm doing: Load G9, run the Prepare Script, run the G8.1 script (purple), then apply my material preset. I've tried it the other way round too (load mat preset first, then load the purple script), but it didn't make a difference.

@Richard, good call - Crow doesn't seem to have any geografts I can make out.

@tombraider4ever You can follow my video for converting the character shapes. Together with this product, you can have your old characters running on Genesis 9 in no time. I'm sure we'll see a shape conversion product pop up soon, so these are the manual steps all inside Daz Studio.

Thank you so much for replyingheartsmiley, I will look at your video and see, but I'm thinking it could be problems with they eyes and mouth, right? since they are separate. I have issues w the eyes on all my characters for G8.1 and older as I mixed morphs fr different morph sets, so any more issues and it will be even more hard than it is allredy. So hard to pose the eyes separately and try to judge for myself: what is normal and what is an eye disorder, very hard I think. So I'm thinking I'll wait for the store product for it and hope that is done so I don't get any more issues w the eyes. I'm not sure I will move to G9, but I'll buy the store conversion product when it comes and this also and try and see if G9 is worth having a lot of the stuff I bought be useless. Footwear w heals, geografts, geoshells, expressions ect.

  • What does Morph Loader mean when it says, the geometry didn't match?

It's the vertex count and order that must match, polygons are not relevant for morphs. When you load an OBJ to create a morph Daz Studio takes the position of vertex 1 in the OBJ as the morphed postion of vertex 1 in the figure, vertex 2 in the OBJ is the morphed postion of vertex 2 in the model and so on. If the number of vertices does not match it will not be possible to set up the correspondence, if it matches but the order has changed then instead of getting a smooth shift to a new shape the morph will pull bits of skin around all over the place and you will end up with a spiky mess (though the outline will be the intended shape).

  • G9 Gender Confusion

    Leana said:

Lastly, are there real character morph/design benefits between the attempt to go back to gender neutraility, or was this an effort to adjust Daz characters to the sensitivities of the changing political climate?

There are actual benefits to having a single figure. For example, all morphs can be mixed. Want to create siblings which look like each other? You can start from the same character morph and adjust it to create male and female versions. Have a cool creature where you want a male and female version? Again, a few dial spins and you get that.

Moreover, clothes will now fit both genders without the need for conversion. Whether the style of a specific item fits both is another question, but still it makes sharing clothes easier, which can be useful if you want matching uniforms, or if a specific type of clothing you need only existed for the other figure previously.

Basically, it gives you more versatility.

Got it, that makes sense.  Thanks for the clarification.

I'm still wondering about the "base" descriptive used in poses, and why they use it as both a standalone naming as well as associating it with gender.  If anyone knows?...

  • What does Morph Loader mean when it says, the geometry didn't match?

Morph loader can only work if the modified mesh has the exact same number of polygons as the original and in the same order. So no, loading just a modified head without the rest of the mesh won't work.
