  • the old April fool's joke that keeps on trolling

I made this video using the old Victoria 5 preview April fools freebie

    SKU 12368

of course I cannot redownload it

anyway to cut to the chase, some big corporation is claiming the intellectual rights to my whole video!!

    not just the music

I did use a midi file as a starting point even though it is a public domain tune so maybe if they owned that midifile

sadly I cannot find the original only my heavily edited copy

My video has had a lot of views but it is not monetised

but unless they are entitled to it why should they benefit

a few copies are out there and one has more views than mine and was featured on PewdeiPie's Blog, the copy not mine

so the views and possibly the revenue on that one has gone through the roof

I cannot do anything as I made mine public domain CC as I did many videos but why should someone then turn around and make a quick buck of mine?

Anyway I wanted that damned file so I could show how I made it and tell them to show me how they could claim any intellectual rights if not the music.

  • Is Poser Pro 11 actually better than PP 2014?

You mean Victoria 6 (V6) & Victoria 7 (V7)? I've heard it does cause some problems but not in a way, at least for V6, that causes any problems for the typical 3D DAZ hobbyist. Even V7 was made possible by a script at Renderosity that converts V7 to a Poser 2014 friendly format. You should ask that question on the Poser forums with many more users that might have used V6 & V7 in Poser 11.

There are and will be animation creation improvements as will as improvements to there two models, Paul & Pauline, version 2 and other improvements. Also, you will get version 11.1 free, a major update, when it comes out. For $49.95 to get the Pro upgrade from older version of Poser Pro it is a great deal.

However, you should visit the Smith Micro site yourself and compare Poser Pro 11.1 to older version and other 3D software.

  • Cant figure out how to use DS 4.10 at all

Just started using Daz about 2 weeks ago and bought a bunch of content. Running DS 4.10 on my Mac and PC. Everything was downloaded and installed through DIM (Daz Install Manager). All my purchases show up in Ready to Download.

However, after installing, some of my stuff don't show up in smart content. I've tried to install through Daz Connect. Still doesn't show up.

Have to figure out where things all. Found out many of the V4 (Victoria 4) add-ons don't have meta-data. So I have to find the location of the files under Content Library. Stuff appear under Poser Formats. Guess stuff lke V4 addons are the old Poser format?

  • Dracorn's Render Thread

Just playing around with AprilYSH's free OnFleek eyebrows - they work great on Michael.  In fact, they are so thick, they look better on him than they do on Victoria.

Make sure you take off the eyebrow pencil.

With the shape presets, I applied them so thick they stuck out from his face.  Great for those older guys with really bushy eyebrows.  Now I gotta wait for the Aging Morphs Bundle.

  • Daz, what's happening?

I think one thing that is happening is that the store offers content to new people and to long-time customers.  When a new person discovers Daz3D's programs, the new person does not already have a runtime folder full of thousands of sets, props, figures, and clothing.  The new person cannot kitbash a forest warrior outfit designed for V4 to Victoria 8 because the person doesn't already have the V4 forest warrior outfit.  The person installs Studio for free and gets free V8 and M8 figures.  The new person obviously needs a sexy schoolgirl outfit and an impractical chainmail outfit.  It makes sense that the new person wants items designed for V8 and M8, not V4 and M4.  So, we are going to get some repetitive stuff.  Long term customers already know that there will be a Victoria 9, and that there will be a sexy schoolgirl outfit and ponytail hair for V9.  That is not a bad thing.  But it does mean that fewer things offered in the store will fill a gap in a long term customer's runtime.

On issues like support tickets and similar things people have brought up, Daz3D could improve a lot.  But on the whole, I think the PAs offer stuff that they think people want, and PAs do get reputations for quality.

  • Actor Tab

Having read enough discussions, I realize that I am not the only one to have problems with the "ACTOR" tab. I loaded Daz onto a brand new laptop and everything was fine. The Actor tab was there. The disaster occured after I added an external runtime. The runtime itself was set up correctly. Everything worked fine and I could load content from my Daz library and my new runtime and the actor tab was there until I shut off the computer. When I fired it back up, I had to remap the Daz content library but the external runtime was fine and everything loaded okay. I thought that everything was fine until I loaded a Genesis figure and in the parameters and the shaping tab the was no Actor tab. I tried uninstalling Daz and reloading it but still no Actor Tab. I then uninstalled Daz using the DIM program and then pulled up the c: drive and did a search for anything DAZ. I then manually deleted every file, folder and item that showed Daz in the name. I reloaded Daz and loaded Victoria 5 and low and behold, in the paramaters tab, there was the actor tab.

Question: This is the second time that I've set up an external runtime and the second time that I've lost the actor tab after doing so. The external runtime was on my desktop both times and I'm wondering if the runtime location was a problem. I used DIM to reload all of my content but a lot of it is missing like Genesis 2 male and female. It doesn't show up in the smart content or the content library tab. The las time that this happenned I wound up uninstalling and reinstalling content and this worked but is very time consuming.

I'm working on a Dell Inspiron 17-5765 5000 with 16 Gigs of Ram and 2400 MHZ processor speed. Windows 10 operating system.

  • Cant figure out how to use DS 4.10 at all

I have been using DS for years and have gained some experience in it, although I am by no means any sort of expert. My Mac crashed and burned about a week ago, and the upshot was that I lost just about everything, well things like Daz studio itself for example. I am pretty sure i was running 4.9 prior to the crash and had not bothered with Daz connect or indeed installing content using DIM for some previous versions, preferring to add content manually.

Anyway having been forced to clean install the latest mac operating system High Sierra OSX 10.13. i was left with an almost virgin machine, and had to install Daz studio from scratch. The version available was 4.10, couldn't see any other version on offer. So I did that and since then have been totally lost. The previous format for the content was through my library and then using the poser and dad options, but I can find nothing anymore. Where for instance are my base figures, like V4 and G2 and so on. How do I load Victoria or Genesis?  How do I access my daz purchased content and use content from third parties and freebies.

I can't even find any guide for this version to give any clue how things work.

So any help please, guides tutorials explanations would be really useful

  • Reinstall Victoria 4 (V4) on Daz Studio 4.X

    Hello,

I don’t know whether to do the long story or the short story. As of the time of this message, I have the most recent version of DAZ Studio. It says 4.10.0.123 Pro Edition (64-bit). I have been using Victoria 4 until probably some time in 2016, skipping over Genesis Evolution and Genesis 2. After getting ticked off at DAZ and going strictly with Renderosity and Poser, I got the impression that the pendulum was swinging back toward DAZ Studio on the strength of IRAY and Genesis 3. So I came back.

Things were going fine. I had my V4 characters in the same scenes as my G3 characters. I even went back and got some G1 and G2 characters. I had pose converters in place. And I even decided to get G8 just to keep up with the times.

I can see that this is turning into the long version of the story. So then I started thinking about the raw amount of space the files were taking up. And thinking about mistakes from the past that might have contributed to the size of the file library. I had items purchased that I thought would be good and later realized were not so good. I had items that were good years ago but not so good now. I had items that were good until I found items that were even better. And between the built-in DAZ content manager, the DAZ Install manager, and manual installs from DAZ and other sources, I surely had lots of duplicate files scattered about.

So I had this big plan to just start over. I kept backup copies of two folders where I saved personal files. And then I uninstalled everything and deleted the entire library. For what it’s worth, it takes quite some time to delete 745,000 files. And I would only reinstall the files that I wanted to use, or were required to support the files I wanted to use.

This worked great with G3. I used those personal files I backed up. All of my characters were saved as “Scene Subsets”. I clicked on my favorite character, which is based on Jazmine HD for G3. DAZ informed me that I needed to install Jazmine HD and Kara Hair. I did. Then when I launched the character a second time, it said some files were missing that I determined were part of a set from Renderosity. I unzipped the files in the DAZ folder, clicked on the character a third time, and had success.

Then I tried the same with a V4 character, and that is where things went wrong. First I tried clicking on the file I saved as a scene subset. A .duf file. It says some assets were missing and these files could not be found:

    data/auto_adapted/legacy_blmilwom_v4b_68498/geometry_0bd93b59_46af_120f_93bf_8a1b08cbeb0b/legacy_geometry.dsf

    data/auto_adapted/spicehairv4_57803/geometry_7c8adba4_5795_0dde_3e1b_58dd81664579/geometry.dsf

I ended up with a blocky figure with no texture or resemblance to the V4 character.

I also tried clicking on the original .daz file that I still had around. This one tells me some files are not found and to make sure my directories are properly specified. It results in a completely invisible figure that shows up in the “Scene” pane with all of the body parts or “bones” or whatever listed. Here’s a snippet of the log file:

2017-12-10 00:22:26.935 Unable to find file for storable: data/3_0/blMilWom_v4b_68498/lEye/modifiers/morphs/PBMCC_06_0.dsd

2017-12-10 00:22:26.935 Unable to find file for storable: data/3_0/blMilWom_v4b_68498/lEye/modifiers/morphs/PBMCC_07_0.dsd

2017-12-10 00:22:26.935 Unable to find file for storable: data/3_0/blMilWom_v4b_68498/lEye/modifiers/morphs/PBMCC_08_0.dsd

Finally I tried manually clicking on a new V4, which works. And I clicked on my old character preset, a .dsa file. This seems to have applied the correct texture to the default V4 but she’s looking kind of anorexic. None of the Morphs++ stuff seems to be there. I looked in the folder where you can manually inject morphs++ features and only some of them are there, certainly not the full body injections.

My DAZPeople folder only has 7 files and 1 folder. I have been using strictly the DAZ Install Manager to install things, except for that one Renderosity product I unzipped. It seems like I don’t have the millennium woman files, or at least don’t have them where DAZ Studio is looking. And it seems like I don’t have Morphs++ installed. DAZ Install Manager was used to install the following:

    DAZ Studio

    Victoria 4.2 Base

    Victoria 4.2 Base StudioCF

    Morphs++

    Morphs++ PowerLoader

    Morphs++ Studio CF

    Morphs++Developer Kit.

This has definitely become the long version of the story. I really want my Victoria 4 characters back. Is there a solution?

  • GeeGee Hair on G8F loses bangs on smaller characters

    Hi all,

when I tried to use GeeGee Hair with the new G8F Luna chacter, I found it looked a bit distorted. The bangs didn't adapt to the character size. For comparison I put a "regular" character Kari aside, indeed you see the difference of the hair. To be even more sure, I then made Kari a lot smaller to see what happens, and now it's obvious - the bangs and bun are loose and stay where they started.

I found a couple of tips on adapting the GeeGee hair to G3F, but here I stay with G8F. Any hints on how this can be settled for characters smaller than Victoria 8?

    Thanks!

  • Daz, what's happening?

I'm probably going to get a lot of flak for this (although I might add, I'm glad someone else has noticed the quality of the merchandise being pushed out into the store), I'm honestly seriously disappointed and upset at the disparity between Male and Female. G8F is getting an average of 7-12 items every other day, whereas G8M is lucky to get more than 3. When G8M first released, there was only maybe a 120 difference between the two figures, for obvious reasons that G8F releases months prior. But now it's just getting ridiculous, with the differences entering 700.

It's been said that male products don't sell as well as female products.

G8F has Victoria, Olympia, Stephanie, Teen Josie and Monique. G8M has Michael (opposite to Victora), Lucas (opposite to Stephanie) and Darius (opposite to Monique). Where's Leo 8 at, opposite of Olympia, or Teen Ryan 8, opposite of Teen Josie?

Don't know about Leo, but we have not seen Ryan's female counterpart yet, since he was paired with Julie, not Josie.

Also not to mention, and it's probably just a personal pet peeve of mine, but I can't STAND how bland and plastic the characters' palms and soles look like that are being pushed out for G8M. Michael 8's palms and soles look so life-like and detailed, yet all the characters coming out after him just have a single layer of color going across their palms and soles making them look less human and more mannequin-like.

I hope I wasn't being too harsh or critical. I'm not a vendor myself, I know how hard it can be to make figures and such, but I do hope my criticism about the disparity between the two sexes and the lack of detail to the characters' palms and soles would help bring more life into the store. I used to buy an ocassional item here and there, and now I'm just checking the store every day and leaving with disappointment. I don't render a lot, my PC can barely handle more than two figures, but it's fun to play around and create a character and give them a story, possibly for a fictional story.

Not all vendors will bother with minute details like details on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet, for various reasons.

  • Not To Worry, Friend, "There's Always Another Sale™"

There were big differences between G2 and G3. Though the morphs may have appeared to look and work the same, the workings "under the hood" were different. With G3 and G8, the differences are more subtle. G8 bends better, and does expressions a lot better, but the basic shape is so close to G3 that one can convert clothing between the two generations very easily using Sy's tutorial on DeviantArt.

I would say that techniology-wise there is less diffrence between Genesis 3 and 8 as between Victoria 4 and 4.2.  From a user standpoint, the biggest difference is the incompatible poses, but here is a free pose conversion utility with a simple dial that allowes Genesis 3 poses to be directly applied to 8...

  • Not To Worry, Friend, "There's Always Another Sale™"

If the end results appear identical I'm not sure if it is important whether the versions are exactly the same or not.

My take on that is that G3 is better for bending and has several other advantages to G2... but when you're moving a skin mat and a morph from Generation 4 or Generation 3 to Genesis, Gen2 is is the last generation that will take those earlier skin mats without Cayman Studio's geografts - and geografts don't play well with LIE and other geografts...
That creates a situation where although you can get something the Victoria 4 or 3 era to work with Genesis 3 - sometimes you're better off stopping at Genesis 2 and dealing with the unique problems that generation suffers from.
And when I first got into this, I had no idea what all of this meant. Now I'm a DAZ-nerd through and through.

  • Genesis Evolution: Head Morphs - where are they hiding?

    "that work around"

Unfortunately, amandamilobooks, there is no "that", meaning no single workaround that works for everything. As scorpio indicated, there are various figures that DAZ has produced over the years that differ from one another in a variety of fundamental ways. A new user can easily become confused by this, especially if they do not understand these differences. To begin with, Genesis refers to a specific figure. Genesis 2 (Males and Females) are different figures again. Similarly, Genesis 3 (Males and Females) are yet again different figures. And so forth. With each of these generations of Genesis figures denoted by the numeral, changes and advances in the technology that they use renders them incompatible in certain ways and to certain degrees with their predecessors. These changes mean that content designed specifically to work with a figure from one generation will not necessarily work with a figure from another generation. For example, the Genesis: Evolution Head Morphs product was designed for Genesis (Genesis 1, if you like), and will not work out of the box for subsequent versions (Genesis 2, 3 or 8), nor will it work with previous generations of DAZ figures such as Victoria 4, Victoria 2, etc. (BTW, I would suggest avoiding the use of shorthand terms like "Gen" in reference to Genesis, as it can lead to confusion. If you say Gen 3, you might mean Genesis 3, but someone else might think you are referring to generation 3 - which would mean figures such as Victoria 3, Aiko 3, Michael 3, etc.)

As for the "workarounds" that scorpio referred to, they can be of two types:

    1. User-created cludges that are often complicated and may yield varying results:

    and

    2. Conversion utilities designed for the purpose packaged for sale in the store.

Rule number one is to be very aware of the differences between the various generations of figures and their associated content, and using one with another will require some sort of conversion, possibly with mixed results.

As for where you can find the workarounds or conversion utilities, that will depend on which generations of figures you are wanting to convert to and from, as well as what type of conversion you are trying to do, as converting morphs is different than converting poses which is different than converting hair which is different than converting clothing, etc.

If you could be specific about what generation of figure that you are trying to convert from and what generation of figure you are trying to convert to (i.e Genesis 2 to Genesis 8), and the type of content (or, better yet, the specific content) that you are attempting to convert, that would help others direct you to potential solutions. Warning: do not confuse morph conversion with conversion of morph packages. Morph packages are items like those you have referenced - Genesis: Evolution Head Morphs and Genesis 3 Male Head Morphs are two morph packages for different figures, each containing a large number of morphs designed to change very specific parts of the figure's anatomy in very specific ways. They are largely intended to be used to create or modify characters based on the respective figures. Confusion can arise, since one often finds the resulting characters, or those purchased premade in the store, referred to themselves as "morphs". That is that shorthand problem again, as the should more properly be referred to as character morphs. I mention this because workarounds and/or utilities may exist to convert character morphs from one generation figure to another, but I am not aware of anything that would allow wholesale conversion of morph packages that are available in the store, such as those you mentioned and others, from one figure to another. That is why there are discrete morph packages offered in the store for head and body morphs for each separate figure. For example, there are head and body morph packages for each of the male and female figures for each generation (with the exception of the Genesis figure, which is androgynous) - so you will find male and female head and body morph packages for generation 3 figures, generation 4 figures, Genesis, Genesis 2, Genesis 3 and Genesis 8.

  • Confused with all the figures names: Genesis, Victoria...

I think many artists must remember too that Daz probably "phases" out some of the different character version in time. This being that many artists have spent thousands, maybe even millions of hours fashioning their own characters, morphs, clothing, ect.... for sale on the marketplace. Once a version is created, a good company can't just axe that version and tell the customers to move onto the next version because so many artists are still using those versions. For example, many artists still sell to this day, new items for Victoria 4 because they still like that version.  Just my take on the matter. Cheers all!

That's why I was glad to see Prosimo's Daily Things Poses set appear in the store and bought it right away.

Warning! Contains sexy poses like Vicky looking at her watch. laugh

I particularly like the "sexy pose" where it looks like she's sniffing her armpit to see if she needs deodorant. hahah

I know, I know, that's not what the pose is supposed to be, but I swear that's what I thought it was at first glance. lol

    ...sure looks like it.

  • How do you switch between orbit and pan in the perspective cam?

    @Brycescaper

did you know that Victoria 4 in less than five years has become, with Genesis, G2, G3 and now G8, a great-great-great grandmother? Only rabbits can breed that quickly

LOL I had to laugth hard about that comparison.

Did you read my post here? The single most useful feature needed in the next Daz Studio

I would use the Aim At Selection action default shortcut Ctrl+Shift+A - this works like the Point At Property but just once not continiusly - with the Perspective View and Cameras in a way that the possition of the current View stays as it was but it gets rotated to focus the current Selection in the Scene.

While on the other hand the Frame At Selection action default shortcut Ctrl+F doesnt rotate the View but does something like a Pan and a Zoom to center the focus to the selected node in the Scene. I have worked for years now with only using Frame At Selection Orbit and Pan with my customized Mouse Button Modifiers and had no problem with that.

I would suggest you to use the default or some customized Mouse Button Modifiers for the Viewport 3D navigation. I avoid to use the View Control gizmos in the corner and autohide it.

The Qube I think is quiet usefull (I like my findly Companion Qube™wink) - not just for orientation on which side your view is but I also like the Vantage function of clicking the Qubes sides Edges & Corners for to aligning the view. I think there is nothing wrong with the Qube.

Its a little screen gizmo Addon in DazStudio and also something similar exits in Poser to simplifiy the 3D Navigation for beginners. But I dont recomment you to use it all the time.

If I have to compare the DazStudios 3D navigation with other 3D software like Blender and ZBrush im my pipeline they all not just have different default controlls but also dont provide such little screen gizmo Addons.

So my first start with 3D software in common leads me to the conclusion that before I can work with all these sofware I have to learn at least one technic to control the 3D navigation and set them up almost the same in all 3D software if possible. The sometimes mindblowing shortcuts and 3D navigation modifier settings in ZBrush is another story but at least Blender and DazStudio are very customizable.

See my thread for more info: changing Mouse Button Modifiers

I've also added the post: Viewport Navigation Guide + My custom Mouse Button Modifiers to my thread

I belive I saw something similar years bevore but now I've created my own because after some posts and discussions that I've had in the last weeks I think there should be somethink like this with everything on one image.

I've also made a quick Google Search for: DazStudio mouse button modifiers

    • I found this discussion: DAZ Studio Camera Controls via Keyboard and Mouse - Daz 3D Forums

    • The official Carrara Guide: Daz Documentation Center: Home » Old ArtZone Wiki » Public » Software Guides » Carrara » Carrara 6 » Chapter 7: Setting Cameras

    Camera Navigation

Carrara lets you directly manipulate the current camera by using the camera controls to track, dolly, pan, and bank the camera.

Use the camera controls to interactively adjust the position of a camera.

To work faster, you can move and orientate the camera with a 3-button mouse using the following shortcuts:

    • Option/Alt + Left Mouse Button will rotate the camera (Dolly).

    • Option/Alt + Right Mouse Button will Track the camera horizontally and vertically.

    • Option/Alt + Middle Mouse Button will move the camera back and forth.

    • If your mouse is equipped with a Mouse Wheel you can use it to move your camera back and forth.

I think as I once started with Daz Studio I found this - read half of the manual and realized that it was of Carrara not for Daz Studio.wink

But I like these shortcuts and I changed the Daz Studio Mouse Button Modifiers to that. Orbit: Alt+LeftMouse | Pan: Alt+RightMouse | Zoom: Alt+MiddleMouse

    • This is what I've found as I used the Documentaton Center Search:

    • Workaround: use "site:daz3d.com" in your favourit internet browser search engine - then create a Bookmark and you can use it to start your searches with site:daz3d.com in front. I've read this hit somewhere from someone here in this forum.
    • Of Course you can also read and search the DAZ Studio 4.x User Guide - PDF in your browser.
    • But this looks also interesting: Home » Public » Software » Daz Studio » v4.x » Reference Guide » Scripting » API Reference » Object Index » DzViewportMgr
