XURGE3DI purchased 3 of Xurge 3D models...I can't get them to work properly in Daz3D on any of the models...is there someone or some tutorial that can show me how to get the clothing to work properly? I also haven't been able to re download the purchased models. I have sent two emails over the last 2 years with no response.
Cory
You need to load the very old Michael 4 or Victoria 4 models in Daz, then load the clothes and select "fit to" (...M4 or V4). If you have Wear Them All for Genesis 3, or RSSY V4 to G8, you can convert them forward to more modern characters pretty easily. If you only use Genesis 8 and are not experienced with converting clothes forward, you need to load Genesis, fit the Xurge3d clothes to them to trigger autofit, and then autofit again to Genesis 8. The results of the second method won't be impressive, especially if you haven't bought Ultra Templates or something else that would expand your autofit options, but it will work.
Some of his clothes use mtl files for the texture sets (which Daz can't read) rather than pz2, which it can. The good news is that all the clothes from one Xurge set usually are set up to fit on a single UVmap, which means that all you need to do is to select all the articles of clothing, go to the surfaces tab, select all the surfaces, and browse to the location of that outfit's textures, and apply the same texture to all pieces at once. (Then save out as a DS materials preset, of course).

Another 'what hair is this?' :-)I think this one:

Based on Jon Snow? So, me and the hubby are having an argument

over whether this is based on the character Jon Snow. https://www.daz3d.com/lord-of-snow-for-michael-4I think it is, (seeing as their are obvious hints) but who knows, I might be wrong.
What does everyone else think? xD

Cannot find my Michael 4 characterDAZ INstall manager says it is installed. I cannot find my Michael 4 under Smart Content or Content Library.
Unsure what to do. Thanks for the help in advance.
MT5 in DS ???Can anyone point me toward a procedure to convert mt5 files to DS compatibility?
If you meant "transform the settings for poser material room into equivalent settings for one of DS render engines", then there's no universal procedure for that.
DS and Poser render engines and materials are very different, getting equivalent results in both products is usually possible but how to do it really depends on the results you want to achieve, there's no automatic conversion. Also, there's a product on here that'll do it for you, depending that your goal originated in Poser with Victoria 4/Michal 4. https://www.daz3d.com/v4-skins-batch-converter-to-genesis-2-female-s . There is another for Michael 4 as well.
https://www.daz3d.com/v4-skins-auto-converter-for-genesis-2-female-s and there is a Michael 4 version.
These products don't work with mt5, only with pz2.
MT5 in DS ???You wanna search for Poser to DUF .
That should bring you to a world of O..O

Basically, to do this material to DUF(daz studio compatible) thing, all you need to do is load your item and material into Daz Studio and then File>Save As>Material Preset.
Keep in mind that shaders are not transferable from Poser to Daz Studio and vice versa, yet this is a good place to start your journey!GENERAL FREEBIE REQUESTS part 3...actually there was a K4 clone for the original Genesis, even ones for Sam and Sadie. With the gender split that G2 introduced, basic fit clones were far more limited (I remember I had to purchase a V4 fit clone).
The clones have, up until Genesis 8, been for the previous generation (of the same sex) and he current generation of the opposite sex.
Actually that was the policy since Victoria 3 - there is a cr2 included that lets V3 wear V2 clothes.
Yes, and Victoria 2 (which was Victroia 1 as far as rigging went) had a similar figure that would wear clothes from the Poser 4 Nude Woman (and Michael 2 likewise for the Poser 4 Nude Man). Michael 4 was the only oen that didn't get soem kind of backward-compatible figure.

Howy2012 recently shared a freebie that turned the Michael 4 body suit into the distinctive "pleated joint" spacesuit using textures and displacements. I adapted that technique, applying it to the Aiko 3 body suit which can be conformed to Melody (even with the custom digitigrade feet JENelson (aka Achronicity) once sold at Renderosity). I used the collar seal and backpack from a freebie by "Shukky", but the other elements like the helmet with "kitty ears" and the various smooth edged "boxes" I cobbled together. The "boots" and gloves are just body parts of Melody that I made shiny black and added some displacement to thicken them.
The lunar platform in the background is one of Howy's freebies, he offers several. They include Poser based prop files, .OBJ files and Blender data. The .OBJ versions should readily import into DAZ Studio. Here's his freebie page.

GenX with M4/V4 MorphsYou need Cayman Studios legacy UVs to use V4/M4 textures on G3 or G8.
The M4 to G3M product is here: https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-3-michael-4
The V4 to G3F is available at Rendo, it was released before they started selling at Daz.
Duplicate materials when importing Genesis2I can't recall the technical reason, if any. The Importer hasn't been updated in years.
There is a free script from D3D (God Bless him) to convert Generation 4 materials to Genesis 2 materials you might find useful. It works both in Poser and Studio...
http://d3d.sesseler.de/index.php?software=dazscript&product=gen4g2mat
Edit; thinking about it, you need to buy the UVs in order to use Generation 4 materials with the above script. Sadly, I think they were on a big sale just the other day...

https://www.daz3d.com/michael-4-for-genesis-2-malea little talk about "genesis family and it's future(1, 2, 3, 8 and maybe future 9??)well compared with most of peoples here i'm really a lot "new" to DAZ (but it did already did a huge damage to my pockets
) but at first i really liked it, it really help a lot to my line of work which is game design, i can grab a lot of things and reduce months or even years or work and peoples working on it.I've coming from CC3 after get a lot frustrated with it and it's limitations and bugs, then while daz does have it's own issues (specially which some payed features would be good and make more sense if was "free"(part of the program) with the program like the decimator) it's still a lot at front of CC3 not just by the huge library but also it's characters which are what bought me to stick with daz and almost give up on CC3 which are my main point here.
i've decided to work with GEN8 because was the new one and getting more content and content with more quality, which also can be a issue too since "quality" here means "more polygons" and by more i means insane amount, i can understand which most of the content here is made for "render" and not for animation or game design the famous "fibermesh" and others things like really high poly outfits(even without high resolution) are really a pain even to load inside daz, my machine is a i7 with a gtx1070 and 16 giga ram and when the character alone already around 500k+ the program already start to lag a lot(what is opposite when i'm using unreal engine where it' can easy load the same character and not start to slow down), in some cases going too high also can means a little "bad work" and a little lazynes(no offense to anyone and not saying the artists do really amazing jobs)since is more easy to have a really high polly asset than have to retopology and make a lot of work to make it's look better without need that high ammount of polygons and bla bla bla.
But after comparing G1, G2, G3 and G8, i would say which if not was for it being a little too old and the fact which i've alread invested a lot in G8, maybe for my case G2, would be the best option, because it was the one with the "best base polygons" in my opnion, being around 22k, make it almost perfect and don't look " low poly" when in base as like 16k can look( at las tin shoulders), i would love if the next generation would be around that number like G2 was, or at last like between 20 and maybe 25k what is good enough to make the character really looks all round without any square, to be fair G8 still look very good with it's 16k poly but it would look better really being around 20k, specially with today machines.
This something i really would hope to see for the next generation a "increase in polygons" for the character base, don't need to go crazy like it was in milleniun victoria and michael 4 which are around 70k base(basically a doubled version of genesis 3 or 8), for a character base for game design and also for amateur animation being around 20 to max of 24k is a very good number which in high resolution would bring amazing details for some artists.
would be cool if they could mix the poly account of g2 with the power and versatility of g8 to make a really cool ne generation.
Another thing i would love would be daz would become more popular among indie devs like me to maybe make the artists start to also worry more for that side and be more "game friendly" with they works
in the future and maybe in next generation we could get some works being less "polygons or maybe a sort of release of 2 versions" one for render peoples which not care about poly count and one more game friendly with a more controlled number of polygons to attract more peoples to buy things here.I really love this place and really my only complain is which while in "base" it can be very game dev friendly(with some features which can be used for that) when comes to content it's in general a lot very scare lol and complicated, you can still find some good works which are still "friendly" but you need to dig a lot for that.
what is your favorite generation???
for what reason?
and what you would love to see in the next one???
More Non-photorealisitic Renders (NPR II)The editor of the comic I'm working on wants the main hero to have some curls in his hair, so here's my first take at it. As before, this is Michael 4 with a modified version of Farconville's great face morphs. However, with Arton's hair up higher off his face, I'm thinking the face is too long and angular. I'm going to need to tweak it a bit to soften it so he looks a little younger. Also, before sending it to the editor, I need to fix those weird shadows on his tunic.

Looking good. I tried doing a bit of an edit on this, hope you don't mind. I removed the block of black shadow from his forehead which may make his face look a bit younger. See what you think.
Pete

THANKS! That is a much-needed edit (and one I considered making but I got in a rush to get to bed). You're right, that does make him look younger.
I'm hoping to have more time to spend on this new hairstyle later this week. I see LOTS of areas for improvement (and I also picked up another hairstyle over at Rendo that I want to try out).
EDIT: I just noticed that you also filled in the shadows on his abdomen. GOOD CALL and it really helps.I think was kind of rushing it because this is definitely a throwaway image. The face is wrong (I'm beginning to think that the jaw is okay but that his mouth is just up too high – maybe a little more distance between his nose and mouth might fix things; which is not something I would do in a realistic image, but in a cartoon it could be fine) and I'm not yet confident on how to generate the details on the curls. If I use this hair (and right now it's the top contender) I will need to do a lot more work on the hair textures. THANKS AGAIN.
