You didn't bought a DAZ product. It's a general 3D object (obj is the model file, mtl the materials settings and zprj is the Marvelous Designer original file).
You must import the file in DAZ Studio (FILE-->IMPORT) and convert it into a clothing (using Transfer Utility).

Look online for tutorial on how create clothing on DAZ. Or maybe ask here for details

Thanks, Kainjy, that looks interesting.  Will give it a try.  Very helpful. yes

These assets where made for marvelous designer (I think from the zprj extension), not for daz studio.

You can still use the objs by "importing" them from File>Import. You must find the proper scale (I do not remember if a scale for MD is predefined in the import form). The material is not guaranteed to be properly imported and definitely you will not be able to conform them on a genesis figure (at least not simply).

Ah, that's great - thank you.  It's not the end of the world, as I only bought a couple of things - and the Marvellous Designer label is clearly on the product description.  Rookie error.  Will give your suggestion a go.  No textures on product to worry about.  I'll just hit it with a shader once I've worked out the import.   smiley

  • How do you restore the status bar?

Window>Workspace>Select Layout will do a ful reset, you could also try Window>Workspace>Customise, click the Import button, and select Toolbars.

In my experience with diffeomorphic it is two different things to export for blender and to export for a game engine. As a matter of fact blender can keep most genesis features, while a game engine can't. Namely a game engine has issues with iray materials and LIEs and decals, other than geografts and shells and HD morphs, other than genesis actor morphs aka morphing armatures, that's armatures that animate the rest pose. All of those features need to be "baked" or "simplified" for the game engine. While they work fine in blender with diffeomorphic.

So changing fbx with gltf is not the point. Though gltf may be a better choice as a modern format. But it is simpler and more efficient to get information or import directly from the daz duf file, without using an intermediate standard format that may not fit for some features. That's what diffeomorphic does.

There is not much big difference between game engine and blender. See what iclone does: export a fbx file(we should use gltf for PBR) with all maps, which can be used in game engine. Then all 3D tools can use it. "HD" or any other difference, is just an option checkbox when exporting.

Developer can create this exporter with in Daz Studio or just by converting .duf file.  It doesn't matter. What matter is: only develop it once and all 3D tools can use it, not just blender. That can only be done with a genernal 3D file format.

Basicly, it looks like a copy of diffeomorphic's daz importer, but write everything into a 3D file.

At least I can use the image overlays though~

Well, if you bought it within the last 30 days you can always return it for a full refund.

I thought about it,  but the overlays still work and are high enough resolution to be worth using.  I might be able to say, subscribe to CC long enough to make the brushes into individual images then import those into CS5 as new brushes too.

From my experience, it is not a good idea to change the height of the figure in Blender

Exactly why I was asking ... I believe that I have read that the rigging needs to be adjusted whenever the height is changed. As far as I know, that must be done in DAZ Studio because it can't import rigs. The complication that I assume is that it doesn't stop with changing rigging - I guess that JCMs and weight maps etc. need to be adjusted or re-done. All of which I know nothing about.

Can Carrara or Zbrush convert geometry into VDB? (I think someone said Blender can, but I'm rather allergic to Blender)

Blender can, the Carrara Octane plugin can

Houdini and Embergen are the industry standouts for it though

Blender users import those in preference to their own particles

  • The modern way to get XSens Mvn Mocap animation data into Daz?

I have Xsens motion capture recordings which I'm trying to get into Daz as smoothly as possible (export supports both FBX and BHV)

There's a 5 year old video here which shows the use of MotionBuilder to import the animation and apply it to a Daz character, with great results (no jittering or foot sliding!):
We've likely come a fair way since then, given that the targeting in the video seems a little painful. Using any applications available, what are the smoothest ways to complete this process in 2022?

  • Blender morphs issue

Hello, i have been making my own morphs in blender by exporting an obj and then swapping to a different machine to do the blender edits. Well i have just switched to editing in blender on the same machine and im hitting a weird issue. I am deleting everything from the scene just leaving the base gen 8.1 and then exporting the base mesh, editing in blender and then morph loader proing back on to my character. My issue is that the hair item and vellus hair are (or arent) moving with my morph. Almost like they were still attached when i exported to blender. Does anyone know what could be happening? Or could someone run through their setting for both export and import to blender? I'm sure i didnt miss a setting but something is very wrong.

    Cheers

    I assume you import obj.

If it comes in at 50% size, double the value you have in the scale field.

I know it's open to interpretation, but people who don't use Y for up/down are objectively wrong.

You are probably from United States.. I'm Italian. In my country X & Y are the horizontal axes and Z the vertical one. This is a national common standard.

I think that was a joke. I mean, it has to be a joke... In the same post they said something was open to interpretation, then they said it was objective.

This is all so infuriating. Nothing I do works. I've tried every suggestion. I can not get the  bloody model to import in both the correct position and WITH UV mapping intact. I can get it to import into the correct position or move it into position, but then I loose UV mapping an my materials go to hell. Or when I use the transfer utility to parent the uniform to the Genesis 8 female the bloody uniform flips back again or glues out of position. It's unreal. No matter what position I put the model in within sketchup prior to export as an obj when it gets imported into Daz it's in the wrong orientation. Is anyone willing to take a crack at this and see if you can get it to import into the proper position? I'll send you the uniform .obj. Why is it so hard to import with UVs then get the clothing item to transfer onto the Genesis 8 figure in the same fracking position it was in before you started the transfer utility??????????????????????????????

How the hell can you lock the coordinates so when you execute an asset transfer Daz doesn't change the position?

Please post a screen shot of the import option dialogue in the version that gets the shape right but loses the UVs - I suspect all you need to do there is enable the relevant checkboxes in the lower part of the dialogue (certainly those on the left but you would usually want Read Surfaces too).

  • Daz imported everything at 50% scale

    Hi everyone,

Been trying to work on a Daz product that I finished weeks ago but still havent managed to set up correctly in DAZ as the tiniest problems keep emerging and the only solution seems to be import everyting again and start all over.

Anyway, the latest problem is I just forgot that DAZ imports Blender objects at .5 the scale for some reason. So I've set the entire scene up (more than 200 objs) in the exact correct position and group but everything is .5 scale.

And all I can think of have everything in a group that is 200% but shrinks to half size the moment a user takes it out to actually use, or re-importing and setting the entire thing up again , for like the 4th or 5th time. I'm probably not going to do the latter again, so thought Id ask if there anything I'm overlookng to rezise everything without throwing off their positioning, or should I just forget about selling daz products?

    thanks everyone
