How to have 2 installations of daz studio?
hello.
i would like to install a new instance of daz studio. how can i do that?
i will explain my need.
i have many products between generation 3 and 4 and genesis 1,2,3 and 8
Some products are freeware, of very bad quality, installed in various directories.
i would like an instance with only products from genesis 3, 8 and 9 and retrieve the best products for victoria and michael 4
i was thinking to install the products on 2 different directories.
Is it possible to do this, without losing the current CSM? Can I create a rollback operation?
or is it better to install everything using another windows account? (Since the database resides in the roaming directory).Thank you.
Daz Studio 2025 ALPHA - version 6.25.2025.13207Hey all! I have 2 questions please...
1. See attached picture. Do I need all the Premier Product Updates listed for Daz Studio 2025 ALPHA - version 6.25.2025.13207??
2. Using Daz Studio 2025 ALPHA - version 6.25.2025.13207 now. I cannot load Generation 4 characters like Michael 4, Freak 4, Victoria 4, etc. They reside in my Poser Runtime Library. I had no issues with previous DAZ Studio versions. Wasn't there a script/program that did the transfer between the two programs?? What am I missing??
Thanks!!
Morphs, textures, oh my. Variety needed
Yeah, back in the days of Michael 4, Jepe made all sorts of characters that were dial spins.background said:Morph packs seemed to dry up when PA's started using Zbrush to morph entire characters in one go, with maybe just the head and the body as separate dials.

Alpha version of what, Carrara? If so... Why?
Either way - what do you mean that "nothing works" for you? Lights?
Describe what you're doing and I'll see if I can help you get going

AIUTO...CHI CONOSCE L’ITALIANO?
Feathered back late 1977 - 1980 retro lookThe only hairs I can find that are close the male's hair are not perfect:

https://www.daz3d.com/dorian-hair-for-genesis-3-male-s
I even looked at any female hair to see if one was close but didn't find one, at least in my runtime. I may be phobic about the 80s hair. I went for a Billy Idol butch so I could get into a gas mask and be assured of a tight seal.
Help... I need a way to sort my runtime!I'm lazy. I don't bother with categories, etc. Awhile ago I used DIM to remove the old generations of characters and clothes from my runtime. DIM does the work nicely.
I did a search of DIM for names such as Victoria 4, V4, Michael 4, M4, etc. I clicked "uninstall" for each individual character and their clothes. Then I chose a new folder for each character or category. I had DIM install those characters to their respective folders or runtimes.
I could have one folder or "runtime" for Generation 4, etc.
In the end I had one Runtime for Genesis figures, etc.
It's my easy and lazy way.
converting v4 items to v8This will enable you to autofit V4 clothes to G8:
https://www.daz3d.com/sy-victoria-4-and-michael-4-clones-for-genesis-8
There's also a batch converter: https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-clothing-converter-from-victoria-4-to-genesis-8-female
For the record, no automatic conversion process is perfect, some items will convert better than others.
Tips/Tools to keep track of your assetsI don't use Smart Content. I break my stuff up into multiple libraries. At present I have:
- Main Library (scenery, props, shader presets, miscellaneous)
- Animals 1 (older)
- Animals 2 (newer)
- Cloaks and MFDs (morphing fantasy dresses (older))
- Nature
- Vehicles
- Millennium 3 (Michael 3, Victoria 3, David 3, Stephanie 3)
- Millennum 4 (Michael 4, Victoria 4)
- Genesis 5
- Genesis 6
- Genesis 7
- Genesis 8
- Genesis 9
- Hivewire
- My Projects
I have a corresponding set of Poser libraries for the older models.
The old Hooded Cloaks and Morphing Fantasy Dresses got their own library because all they shared UV maps, and hence textures, across several generations.
This scheme has the disadvantage that some clothing items that don't have separate installers for separate generations, and can't be handled strictly with the Daz Install Manager. It has the enormous advantage that I can almost always find what I'm looking for, except some of the really old Poser stuff, which looks at chaos from across the border on the far side.
When I was rendering in Daz Studio, I got frustrated enough to manually pull items out of the pestilential artist-name categories and arrange them by type of item, except in the rare cases when the artist is more useful than the item type. These days I don't care if Daz thinks I should remember to look for Crumbling Castle under the name of its maker, Third Underwater Rhinoceros, because I'm systematically exporting everything to Blender, into external directories.
(The external directories also suffer a bit from unavoidable fuzzy classification, and from the unsophistication of Windows' ability to associate images with directories. But I have even more differentiated categorization that usually makes sense to me.)
refreshing third party contentThat's just it I never had this issue until after I installed the Victoria 4 and Michael 4 body suits. Before that all of my third party content worked normally and showed up correctly.

On G9... ? Well, you either create a M4 Clone for G9... or reshape the shirt by using modeling / sculpting application, then re-rig it to G9.

I know it one not (currently) listed in the store, but did Evilinnocence ever release a Michael 4 version of this product?

Such would be near perfect for a M4/F4 version of the Hulk I have collecting "pixelated dust" in my runtime.
They have an M4 pair on their website that looks very similar to the V4 version.Right you are, ZippyGuitar!

Just one teeny problem... The page tries to direct one to RunTimeDNA to purchase it. D'OH! At least there's a "support" e-mail address I can use to reach Evil Innocence directly.

Would this work for you?
https://www.daz3d.com/dirty-denimAlas, I'm one of those increasingly rare holdouts, a Poser "Luddite", (yes, we still exist though our numbers are dwindling) so those won't work for me. Besides, the set appears to be "normal" trousers using transparency maps to depict the rips and tatters. That's something I can do on my own. What interested me about Evil's V4 product was that the "damage" was part of the mesh itself. I had hoped Evil made a set of the ShipWrecked shorts for Michael 4 in Poser format since she adapted them for a few other figures.

Looking for an outfit (yes I know, another one)According to the Renderosity page for this product (it's one of the products that was transfered here), @PAMAWO used Victoria 4 and Michael 4 but no mention about the clothes used and I don't recognize them.
Released : V3D FilaToon Converter, Manager and Tools (Commercial)OK, I updated the conversion script this morning :
Due to an eye conversion issue on the eyes of Generation 4 figures (Victoria 4, Michael 4, etc..), the surface "7_EyeSurface" is now also considered as set as transparent when the option : “Usual Semi Transparent Human Eyes are set as transparent” is checked (default behavior). This should help a lot with the Victoria and Michael 4 family eyes issues.
A new conversion option, UNchecked by default, with allow you to transfer the cutout opacity value from the original shader to the final shader. This was made compatible for the following original shaders : (a) any shader using “Cutout Opacity” property to control the opacity, (b) “Daz Studio Default”, “omHumanSurface”, “omSimpleSurface”, “AoA_Subsurface”, “omUberSurface”, “Daz Studio Glossy Plastic/Metal/Matte”, “Daz Studio Plastic/Metal/Skin”, “Daz Studio Toon Glossy Plastic/Metal”, “Daz Studio Toon Metal/Plastic/ Skin”, using their “Opacity Strength” Control. For other initial Shaders, Cutout Opacity is set to 1 in the final Filatoon Shader.
The function to restore the original Opacity values acts before the function to maintain eyes semi transparent surfaces at 0 opacity, to be able to keep the required eyes surfaces transparent, and acts before the Glass Options too (so that it does not interfere with your other choices).
I'd like to have some tests before submitting the update, @Artini, @barbult, would you like to check if the new version is OK with what you wanted to solve and does not bring any other issue?I'm especially interested in knowing if I should keep the option unchecked by default or if I should change it checked by default. I'm afraid it could cause more issue than solutions if I check it by default...
