Facegen or Headshop
The pic in my avatar is the render i got from using Facegen. I had trouble with headshop and returned it. Could not get it to produce anything that didn't look totallty distorted. Facegen also has issues, and trying to use various photos I'd downloaded did not have great results. The head has to be lined up in such a specific straight on way with your chin just slightly up, and then best to also add side profile shots to the program, all with very bright lighting or flash. I had to take new selfie photos in that specific way to get it generated so that it wasn't distorted once it created the 3D model. Both programs allow you to morph your face shape further, but headshop trying to use that feature just caused it to crash every time for me. With facegen I haven't really used the feature to make adjustments. I just can't see much further use for it since other people's photos i try aren't shot in the same specific manner. But maybe others have had better results.
(I attached a larger image of a render I produced with the created model from Facegen)
Headshop 11 QuestionsHeadShop 11 comes with 3D hair models, and you can place them in the Headshop 11 software. But when I export only the head of my Genesis 8 character changes, and there is no site of the hair. If I setup Hair, and accesories in head shop, it would be nice to see it all transfer to Daz, once Headshop 11 closes. I love working with 3D, but the price of 3D hair is rediculous.
I wish some one would make a software just to generate 3D hair. For gaming. Like Marvelous Designer is for clothing. Export as obj, so I can create hair styles for Character Creator 3. Generating Beards, moutash body hair would be nice as well.
Headshop 11 QuestionsThat's a start, thanks. I'm on a Mac so I didn't investigate that page closely enough. And the photos on the Mac page weren't getting the job done.
Should I expect similar results from the Mac version as the Headshop Win 11 version? Should I expect ver 9 is the last Mac version?
Oops, I see now the sale is already over and I missed it. Ok, no problem, that settles the question for now.
Here's my vote for more before and after shots, the more the merrier. If you had a big pile of such photos for the Mac version I'd already be a customer.
Headshop 11 QuestionsIt seems the point of Headshop is to create a realistic likeness of a 2D photo in a 3D object.
I'm on the fence about purchasing this product and I'm hoping to find an exhaustive porfolio showing both the original photo and the head created by Headshop. Most of what I've found shows only the end product, which doesn't tell us much about how well the likeness was acheived.
If I understand correctly, this is the vendor's website. http://abalonellc.com/ I see no before/after portfolio there, nor on the Daz sales pages, which is puzzling.
I've dug through as many Headshop threads as I can find on the forum, and there are a few A/B comparisons, but not much.
Interesting product in theory, and the vendor seems like a good fellow, but without a good portfolio purchasing seems a roll of the dice. I know refunds are available, but I'd rather not have to learn how to install Headshop and learn how to use it (a day long process at my stage of Daz knowledge) only to see if I can be satisfied with the quality of the output, and then have to learn the refund process if I'm not.
It seems it would be in everyone's interest that an extensive Headshop portfolio be available somewhere. Does anyone know where to find such a thing?
Many thanks.
Headshop 11 QuestionsAre the hairs above from Headshop 11, Cause what I am getting is horrible for hair. Can we please get a full tutorial on adding the hair to character,With the opacity and all. From beginning to end just the hair.
I have never used the product, though i for certain know, the hair is not part of headshop. You just use other hair with the characters you make.

The Hair seams to not follow the proper path on some hair cards. And there is no opacity.
HeadShop 11 vs FaceGen Artist Pro - Which is BestTo whom it may concern, there is a Mac version of Headshop available (half price at the moment).

I believe FaceGen is Windows only.
HeadShop 11 vs FaceGen Artist Pro - Which is BestThanks, Jukingeo! I met someone on Deviant Art who made me some celebrity morphs upon request using FaceGen Artist Pro, and they turned out really nicely, so I thought I would try it. Then when shopping Daz I saw HeadShop.
I'll read that thread, for sure. Maybe others will comment here, too.
HeadShop 11 vs FaceGen Artist Pro - Which is BestI've never used anything like these but have always wanted to try. Both are on sale for 50% off right now. Any suggestions of which software is the best?
I am hopping on the same boat with you. I saw Headshop and it is down half price right now, and when I read the description, is just sounds too good to be true with all the stuff it comes with. It says that it creates these 'dots' and you can further morph the face. It says it includes 11 hairstyles too. So now I am wondering what is the limitation. Since the eyes mouth and everything is taken from a photo, it has me wondering if something like the eyes are mapped out and if you can move them. If you can't then that is a big limitation. So that is what I wanted to ask. I was going to create a new thread, but when I saw yours, I figured I would just hop on your boat instead! As for FaceGen Artist Pro, that I have not heard of, but I will look into it now that you mentioned it!
Edit: I found a thread you might find helpful:
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/292591/headshop-11-questions/p3
On that page scroll down to the first post by Outrider42, he compares the two packages. I would read the whole thread though. There are definitely pros and cons to using these programs.
Hope that helps!

Headshop/ Loading existing .objAn easier way to load existing figures created with HeadShop in Studio is to save the figure as a scene and than load scene.
Same applies if you want to load several HeadShop figures on stage at once; use "Merge" in DAZ Studio under "File".
You can also send an email to tech support at [email protected]
Headshop/ Loading existing .objHi,
Headshop 11, V8 figure.
Apologies for asking a noob question, but I can't seem to load an existing file into Headshop.
At the first menu, I check 'Load existing Headshop OBJ:' and specify the file.
Now I get an error telling me that the selected file was not created with Headshop (it was). On hitting 'OK' I'm then locked into 'Specify a different texture map' on the same menu.
How do I continue?

Headshop 11 ProblemsThe universe is a funny place at times, that's for sure. You decide:
Anyway, having a blast with the tool now. Just have to get the workflow down so I co-ordinate all the assets now & not overwrite with a new HeadShop project.

Headshop 11 ProblemsHmmm. HeadShop seems to have disappeared from my Edit menu. Hadn't made any changes yet. Have un/re-installed w/o any luck. Files are where the ReadMe shows they should be. Sent Abalone LLC a separate message.
Still a mystery why it disappeared but Thanks to Laslo for getting me going via Skype today. Didn't get a chance to tell him how much he looks like my Dad in earlier years & took me back for a moment.
That's funny. Maybe he was my brother from another mother:-) Glad that we solved the issue in 10 minutes via Skype
Headshop just hangsHi
I have installed it on two computers with the same result. License is added, Daz is booted up. I can load Genesis 3, then run Headshop from Edit, but it doesn't fully start: I get a window telling me Headshop is loading which does not disappear. Headshop seems to load, but not with Genesis 3 recognised, and if I add an image, there is a crash (and the Headshop loading message is still visible). So what else is wrong?
AS I indicated, Forum is a bad place to do tech support. Please email to [email protected] and we set up a time.

Daz Studio on C
Files are where they are supposed to be
Most content is on another drive.
When I activate the plugin, I load Genesis 8 & the General Options loads, and I accept.
The Headshop Loader just hangs there with a message saying 'Waiting for Headshop'. Headshop itself doesn't seem to have picked up on Genesis 8 and I can click on some options but the headshop window is not prepopulated on the right. If I drop a photo in it appears, but then crashes when I do anything.
Any ideas?
