  • Duplicate Key for product even after uninstall

It's an issue with the product's metadata - only Daz can fix it, so please report it via a ticket.

  • Duplicate Key for product even after uninstall

I am running into a duplicate key issue with the Oni Shadow Outfit bundle. I have tried uninstalling through DazCentral and deleting the products in the Content Library pane (as well as physically deleting all of the files from my file system), but whenever Daz3D tries to update metadata, it runs into an error for the Oni Shadow Outfit bundle regardless of whether I have it installed or not.

  • [Released] Content Wizard [Commercial]

Content Wizard is crashing both itself and DazStudio 4.21.0.5 for me almost every time I attempt to do a Install Smart Content for content I got from Renderosity. I checked the DazStudio log file and there is no error tracked by Daz or Content Wizard during the Smart Content Install operations, however I have noticed that whenever I buy new products and install them through DazCentral, 1 item's metadata always fails. I looked at the logs and apparently there is a duplicate product GUID (799228b1-8cb5-4f60-b950-a8bba06040b8) in my content database. Not sure if this is causing the crash for Daz and/or Content Wizard. Is there any way I can remove this duplicate and see if that resolves my issue?

EDIT: Daz managed to crash in a way where it allowed me export a memory dump file. It looks like Content Wizard is making Daz trigger a memory access violation. It's definitely repeatable with specific files, while some other files work fine. Could invalid json in the dufs cause problems in Daz during Smart Content install? The vendors are lilflame and Rhiannon.

I should be doing Daz<->Blender tutorials considering how often I post about them. I think Daz is a great tool, but it's just one tool. A painter doesn't have just one brush.

Blender can make Daz look like a simple app considering how much it can do. I don't even touch 90% of the stuff in Blender or even have a clue how to use those features. I would try and find first the most basic tutorial on navigating the viewport and importing and exporting. I would then look at sculpting video tutorials as that is what you will need know to edit most things in Daz. Don't worry about using the Daz to Blender bridge, just export and import back and forth with OBJ files.

I've been interested in getting into Blender for this reason. Did you ever get around to make those tutorials? I'd be very appreciative!!

  • Clothing not fitting after morph

    Richard Haseltine said:

You can create morphs for any kind of shape chnage, including those that will help with fitting. You can often make minor adjustments inside Daz Studio - select the clothing, Create>New dForm, move the Field that is added by tthis until the vertices (points) in the affect area highlight, and then move the dForm itself (parent to the dForm's base) to pull the mesh around.

I've managed to do this, which appears to result in my being able to make [X/Y/Z] [Translate/Rotate/Scale] morphs to the dForm which has effects on the clothing, where applying the same action to the clothing item itself produces a different or no result; but all of those actions seem fairly hamhanded. How would I make more detailed adjustements to a clothing item?

    Catherine3678ab said:

Daz Studio comes with a collection of "content creation tools" ... all those morph dials, etc. that come with the products we buy here were created by the PAs. We also can create a lot of things either for our own models [made from scratch] or as additional perks for the items we have purchased.

In my DA Gallery I have a Tutorials folder which has includes one called "Making Replacement Full Body Morphs"

    https://www.deviantart.com/catherine3678ab/gallery/74400506/tutorials

As what you've shown is all one piece, then if you are using Hexagon, I would recommend making and saving several little morphs - and then combining all of them into one Full Body Morph for the character figure. {this is for reasons concerning the limits of Hexagon - if using Zbrush or similar, then hopefully you could do it all in one session.} As you mention that the 'smoothing modifier' almost corrects most of the issues, then certainly use that first so that there would be less work to do in a modeller if you want to try making a morph.

About renaming the dials - the tutorial on Making pJCMs for Clothing in Daz Studio covers that.

Renaming a generated morph as I mentioned, is okay as is. However if the generated morph was saved, then the renamed morph also has to be re-saved and then manually deleted from the data folders when D/S is closed.

You seem to be talking about making morphs to the figure in order to fix problems with the clothing.  Shouldn't I be making morphs to the clothing item?

Well I'm not. Don't know why you think I am. When you dial in the character morph to the figure -- it generates those morphs into the clothing. Those generated morphs need to be replaced with morphs that make the clothing look better.

Here's an example of a specific change I'd like to be able to make to a clothing item.  (Warning, discussion of mammaries incoming. cheeky) If you look at the product images for this torso armor, it seems as though it would show a significant amount of cleavage, but when I load it onto my figure, the width of the "corset lace" portion is virtually nonexistant.  In the first image I've attached, the upper orange dot is roughly where the metal end and the lace begins. In broad strokes, I'd like to make the horizontal amount of chest uncovered be wider; not necessarily as much as the first outfit above, but more in that dierction.  Adjusting the Cleavage slider to push the breasts further away from eachother doesn't help much; the problem, it seems, is that the portion of the breast that the armor is meant to leave uncovered is being mostly taken up by the Z distance away from the sternum, leaving little space in the X direction.  What it seems that I would need to do, then, is reshape the armor so that the boundry between the metal and the lace portion (marked in orange) falls further out along the edge of the breast.  How might I do that?

Morphs are generally made using a modeller such as Hexagon, Zbrush, Blender, etc.

The reason I suggest putting the figure in base resolution is because it will pass subdivision onto the clothing. We need the clothing at base resolution to make morphs. While sending items over the bridge to Hexagon normally takes care of those details, some prefer to export out .obj files [no groups] to import into other modellers to make their morphs.

Have you ever made a morph?

  • Importing genesis 9/ Vicky 9 into UE5

Bridges are optional and FBX exporters are needed for animation export.
There are some compulsory conversions for G8 characters, G9 doesn't have twist bone problems but conversion is still needed.

Actually, I've seen an issue where the FBX export breaks G9's arm during the process. Appears to snap back into place durring the process, but seeing it break has me concerned as to what the FBX is doing.

FBX Exporter? As in... DAZ Export FBX is NOT going to get it done the way it needs to be done?!?!??

    > In Daz Studio turn smoothing off for clothes and hair to avoid clipping, turn mouth realism off to make the teeth look better.

Looking at figuring out UE5.1's Strand hair.. I think Blender has similar, though I know less about it than I do UE5.1.

    > Remove twist bones after merging skin weights to bend bones.

    > Merge weight from metatarsals to foot and then remove metatarsals.

    > Parent abdomen lower bone to pelvis and then remove the hip Bone.

    > For UE5 retargeter to work with its IK chains, the above process is needed to avoid the limbs bending like multi section spider limbs.

I am guessing this is all based on importing a character into UE5.1 and then retargeting either Lyra or Manny to the import... But what if?!?  What if I import the G9 model, and use it for my base... What? Not using Manny, or Lyra at all?!!?.

No retargetting at all, because the imported skeletan is the same as the base! What?! I know, it's a whole heck, (can I say hell on this PG-5 station,) of a lot of work getting the initial figure setup, but in the end it can also prevent a lot of issues. I mean, you know, Lyra and Manny are there for EXAMPLES of what can be done. Then again I'm just learning the Unreal Engine, so I don't really have any preconcieved... 'this is better than that' when going into a project. I look at it in terms of "I want to know how to do "this", so, now show me how it's done... no, not show me how it's done using the default maniquin... I don't even want to load that one"".

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The original materials from Daz bridge and the original textures are not optimized, conversions are recommended if there're multiple Daz characters in the scene, unless using just the diffuse textures that come with FBX import. Additional textures can't be imported with FBX exporter but need to be added manually or with plugins.

Discovered this trying to get an eye color change into UE5.1... All or nothing dang-nabbit. Only true issue I have with the textures is 1. they are washed out. 2. Characture looks like she was drug behind a train for a few miles... Serious case of road rash on every spot that is 'red'. Probably just the bump, but I haven't actually played with the textures at all other than importing them with the FBX.

    Anyway, thanks for the reply!

    Peace,

    V

That's a very wise decision to try UE5.1 lol

  • What other renderers besides Iray are worth looking into?

Almost any renderer with import functions will work, but the majority of them will have you exporting your scene from DS as another format such as .OBJ so they can import it and read it. In most cases you will also have to reapply any textures and tweak the surface settings to work in that renderer.

here are some to try if interested. Vray and Maxwell are freakin awesome, but pricey.

    List of unbiased renderers

    • Arion
    • Arnold[2]
    • Cycles
    • Indigo Renderer
    • Kerkythea (Hybrid)
    • LuxRender
    • Mantra
    • Maxwell Render
    • mental ray (optional)
    • Octane Render (GPU)
    • VRay (optional)

None of these are, except for Octane and Lux, available from within DAZ and in my eyes, then they are irrelevant. Having to export and re-tex or even redo materials and stuff then I'd say they're not supported in any way, as you said yourself.

OK. What's your point? The OP (3 years ago) didn't stipulate that they needed to stay inside DS or that DS needed to support them. If you're looking for a renderer that meets your requirements, you already have your answer: Iray or 3DL. Shading for your renderer is an inescapable part of working in 3D, even if you stay within DS. If you import an obj, you'll need to shade it for your chosen renderer. If you want to use a 3DL material in Iray or vice versa, you may have to adjust the shader.

@Catherine3678ab, I went to the TurboSquid site you did mention (to get there, use uncle Google and presto)

I found some items of intest, those that visit the place must try to sort by lowest price this will show the free items first and then comes the priced up.

Most of them are in FBX, OBJ  and another file format, there is no mention of Daz format.

If one has Blender and Blender files are offered, those are usable [at least in Blender].

    However for D/S - go with the .obj files. Import them into D/S {may have to experiment a bit to get the size right} so that they are the correct size on import, texture how you please and then save out a prop file. {if using your own textures, have them first in the Runtime > textures > your subfolders before applying}

FBX files are hit and miss in D/S - can try them if obj is not available.

  • Genesis 9 clothing questions & answers

I assume those items have the breasts far away from the figure. The current templates works best with tight fitting clothing.

You will get better results with that kind of outfit if you use the dev tools and the steps in the video in the beginning of this thread. Basically you'll set the G8 female shape as the base shape, autofit the clothing to that, dial in the G9 base shape and use smoothing to get rid of any of the problem areas. Export the result and and then import those objs and use the templates on them. That will give you the best results by far.

  • Creating a single morph slider from multiple shape changes

    Greetings,

I am trying to make a basic animation to import into UE5.1 for an idle animation. The issue I am having is that all of the changes are SHAPE changes, not morph changes. So the FBX export doesn't 'see' those changes and incorporate them into the FBX animation.

My thought is that If I turned these shape changes into a morph, I could export that and use UE5.1's Animation/Sequencer to create the animation right in UE5...

Is there a Tutorial someplace that explains how to do that? I am not looking at changing anything else within the model, just these basic shapes (Revolves around breathing, so Chest depth, ribcage size and etcetera.)

Any help on this would be great.

    Thanks,

This is what really baffles me about the whole conversation: the people complaining about how G9 "requires" HD also don't have the ability to import HD morphs, and they don't seem to consider that a more dense mesh gives them more polygons to work with in base resolution.

My understanding is that, because of how the mesh grid is laid out, even double density doesn't give the sculptor enough polygons to work with in certain areas where it matters.

Anyway, re the main question here, obviously it's possible to create great G9 characters. just look at V9 or Joe's Toon Heroes.
