  • Tutorial regarding HD -> Multires -> Displacement available?

    steps:

    1. from daz studio export HD
    2. import in blender
    3. save local textures and bake the displacement
    4. apply multires and load the displacement

Ok, this sound reasonable. I'll try it and let you know.
Thanks a lot for your great support!

  • How do you install PostgreSQL

    mlolya said:

I got a new computer and installed the latest version of Daz and moved my library over. All of my files are in the Content Library but not in the Smart Library. I've been told to install PostgreSQL, but I have no idea what that is, where to find it or how to install it. Any suggestions?

How did you move your library over? If you just copied the files and folders than that would not have restored the Smart Content. PostresSQL is usually installed alongside Daz Studio and so there is a chance that you do have it installed - indeed I believe that you would get an error message on Daz Studio startup if PostresSQL was either uninstalled or was not auto-launched.

If that is the case you may just need to re-import the metadata which is easily done via the Content Manager and "Re-import Metadata". Note: once you get past the window with all your products and checkboxes the actual import can take over 10 minutes depending on your hardware and amount of products.

There's no way daz studio can import a rigged model. You have to rig it in daz studio.

  • Asset with moving parts (Doors). Wrapping my head on how to do this

I have an asset that has a door (one asset and not 2 seperate assets). I want to move that door like it has been done in many DAZ assets.
How do I make that it can move? In DAZ there is a figure editor, but it is not working as vertex group import is broken. In Blender there are Drivers and Controllers. How can they work in DAZ?
I have no idea how to make any moving parts for DAZ. There are 0 usefull tutorials out there. :(
So how are you doing this?

  • Problems with Keyframes

    Hi all,

I'm having some issues when attempting to set Keys.

    Here's the scenario:
I start a new scene, and only import a single figure, no clothing. At frame0 I set a Key with the little Key+ icon, wait for it to save and move on.
Next, let's say I move to fram30 and set an initial pose; again, I set a Key here at frame30 and wait for it to finish.
I then move to frame60 and set a new pose; Key frame, wait, etc.

Now, at this point, a majority of the time, if I move the slider back to frame0 the figure is still at Zero. I move to frame30 and it has a pose, but it's the same pose as the one that was at frame60.
This tends to happen at odd times and it makes it very difficult and frustrating to work around it.

Am I just not using the Key correctly? As far as I understood, creating a Keyframe will essentially save everything that has changed from the previous Keyframe... so why does it not always work?
Occasionally things work out, but a majority of the time it just won't stick.

Do certain poses not save with a Keyframe? Does it have anything to do with the figure being in/out of a Group?

One particular scenario, just recently, I was trying to set different poses on the timeline with the 3DU Pose Architect for G8F, which uses sliders to frame the figure into a pose; a pose @30, a different pose @60, and a third pose @90. By the time I set the Key @90, the entire time line was that same pose.. so frame30, 60, and even 0 was all the same as the last frame created @90.
Is it just that the sliders don't get saved with the Key?

I just don't understand why it does this. Any advice is appreciated.

After using Easy Import DAZ for Richard.duf I get a big structure with a collection

    Richard
    - Richard Meshes
    -- Richard Mesh
    --- Genesis81MaleGeom.001
    --- Modifiers
    --- Vertex Groups
    - Richard
    -- Animation
    -- Pose
    -- Richard
    -- Richard Mesh

I left out the Eyelashes, Tears and Eyebrows.

The second Richard Mesh is kind of greyed out. I wonder what this is?

Once the update is out, Is there an option to convert again that doesn't actually update the item? For instance, I spent some time doing some heels. I'd like to have the Metadata updated, but I don't want the converter to actually touch any data/morph files.

Sorry, no, there is not.  You could copy the data files for the heels before converting and then paste them back after conversion

  • something that looks like miniature people in toy train set

    Sfariah said:

I was thinking.  Some people like keeping train sets with detailed miniature towns and places.  Those places have little miniatures people in them.  I know there is a lot of high rez and high detail people for Daz Studio and Poser, but what about figures of people who are meant to be figurines.  Especially ones for those miniature towns that have those little trains on those tiny train tracks.

Basically purposefully low rez people who are supposed to be figurines of people

you have mentioned owning Zbrush in the past

export your clothed posed figure as an obj

import it draw it and use the edit mode and near the bottom of the tools is unified skin

make unified skin and choose the result

you should then choose geometry Zremesher and do it

under Zplugin tab choose UV master and unwrap it

you now have a little plastic figurine like mesh

you can then polypaint it and create texture from polypaint

if you want to be fancy  render your original front and back in DAZ

import to Texture add to Spotlight

    subdivide your mesh

line it up and polypaint that image on

remember to set subdivision to lowest after creating the texture from polypaint before exporting the obj

  • [SOLVED] Custom path, files and DB, for main content (default) library

    Hello there,

I've tried to create and custom path for database and files but DAZ remains stuck to the old paths. I've tried update both through IM and DAZ but nothing changes.

Update metadata shows it keeps old directories and path and totally ignore new ones. Did I forget something? Any hint?

    EDIT :

    Ok, I've found the solution.

    In IM

    - Change the path without forgetting to select the right option in content path shortcut

    In DAZ

    - Update the DB path in the content library

    AND

    - Update the content preferences in edit in DAZ (the part I forgot)

    --> Connect Data

    --> Studio format

Unzip the file in a temp folder.

Look at the extracted files and folders to find the root folder, which is the one which will contain the main folders like Runtime, data, people...

Take everything inside that root folder and move it to your Daz content directory root folder, so that existing folders are merged (Runtime merges with your existing Runtime folder, data merges with data, and so on). Content should now be available in content library tab. Reimport metadata in case there are some provided with the new content, if not you'll have to add it to smart content yourself.

Note that the content directory you install too can not be the connect library, you can't install content manually there.

I have no folder marked as Daz Content Directory.

I have DAZ3D>Studio, then in Studio I have My Daz Connect Library, My Library, and Render Library. I'm assuming it is not Render Library because that's where the results of my experimentation have gone.

"Content library" is a generic term for a directory setup as content directory in DS preferences. Different people use different folders.
From the folders you're listing it would likely be the "My library" folder.

OK I've already done that. It doesn't work. When I got to DAZ to install it, it says the file is not there.

Install what? Or do you mean load? If you are getting an error on loading, assuming the thing you are installing is complete in itself and not an addon, then that probably means that you have an extra folder that shouldn't be there - the Data, Runtime, and any other folders at the same level of the zip are what needs to go in your content directory (on Windows you can just drag them theer and then tell Windows to merge them when it asks; Mac users need to work their way down to the folders thata re not already present before copying anything across)

I have Windows 10. No it doesn't say anything about merging. I have read about this merging thing before in instructions. My version of Windows 10 doesn't seem to have that feature.

If you had put the folders in the right place, with the pre-existing folders, then Windows would have told you that there was already a folder of that name present and asked you what to do. if you don't get the pop up when trying to add the new content to an existing content directory then you are definitely not using the correct destination or are copying the wrong folders from the zip.

I will delete those folders and try this again from scratch. I need to know exactly what to do.

LOL I did. I bought it and when I click on 'Download and Install' nothing happens.

I'm afraid to try to manually install it because I might have yet another file I can't use because I can't put zip files in Daz because no instructions work.

    More money wasted.
