I just installed all Genesis content from Scratch
I have the original files organized into folders so I can find them easily.
For the install, I have different categories such as Genesis, "Generation 4" (all people before Genesis). Scenes Favorite, etc.
Some collections contain both people and whatever scenes go well with them. For instance, the Carnival stuff includes clothes for Michael 4, etc. Same for "Old West" stuff.
The Genesis collection includes scenes for the Moonshine Diner, stuff from i13 and other scenes that have poses and/or clothes for Genesis People.
*** Edited to clarify***
I have more than 10 collections. Now that you mention it, DAZ Studio does hesitate a bit when working on stuff. I need to whittle things down.
Many of my items are not installed by DIMRichard those errors are for the base Michael 4, Victoria 4, etc.
I ran the "bat" files you mentioned, and the problem still exists.
** Edited to add***
I just used DIM to uninstall and reinstall the M4 (etc) files. They work now.
Many of my items are not installed by DIMSorry, I misread your post. So the Content folder is inside the actual content directory (e.g. My Daz 3D Library)?
The error in the last post means that the ExP creation tools have not been run or that the installation is off, relative to the figure you loaded (unlikely if it is the base Michael 4). You either need to manually run /Runtime/Libraries/!Daz/DzCreateExPFiles-m4.bat to build the reference files 9and rrun it every time you add or remove ExP morph sets or characters) or you need to install the PowerLoader components so that DS will build the needed files on load each time.
Many of my items are not installed by DIMRichard, please give me some credit here. As previously stated, I used DIM exclusively to install all the content.
I think someone needs to look over the content before they assume I made a mistake.
It sounds like I'll need to take some more of my valuable time to provide proof of these mistakes made by DAZ.
I'm already finding new problems. None of the "major generation 4 figures" will load in DAZ Studio. That includes Victoria 4, Kids 4, Michael 4, Freak 4. I get the following error.
I think DAZ should hire me for Quality Control.
DAZ Studio Crashing with Mac Updated to macOS VenturaNow my question, why are you still using such an old version of Daz Studio? The reason I asked was I used to manage a group of mac users (25 mac's) and people were always lax in updating even though it would make their lives easier. They were never clear why they didn't keep up with software maintenance so I had to be very aggressive and assertive that they used old software
I'm using the old version of DAZ Studio because updating it made some of the DAZ products not work - products I relied on (one in particular, which allowed me to use old characters on newer figures - like use Michael 4 and Michael 5 characters on Genesis 2, I can't even remembrer the name of the product and I don't think it's in the store anymore because the inventor of it died) When I asked about it in the Forum - Richard told me to use the old version of Studio, or use some Beta version of Studio. So I chose to use the old version.
Every time I update the Mac OS or update a version of software for anything, it causes SOMETHING not to work.
AI exists now. Why can't these problems fix themselves? You can make a feature film and compose and record an orchestra performing an orgiinal symphony with AI, but you can't get your existing software to work.
The 2nd (biggest reason) I didn't update the DAZ Studio software is that I expect AI to make DAZ Studio obsolete by now and I wouldn't be using it anymore. Is that clear enough? AI is replacing old software.
EDIT: I'm sorry I sound so harsh, I don't mean to be disrespectful, and I appreciate your help - but I broke my foot and 3 of my toes and spent 11 hours in the Emergency ward yesterday and now, not only can't I walk, I'm in pain, that won't allow me to sleep.
Suddenly Daz Studio and IM won't access most of my modelsThis is all I get when I use DIM. It doesn't even appear in the search blank at the top of product list. The resource error appears immediately with no request. I suddenly found my product list changed to only old stuff. I didn't intentionally change anything until the problem started. I first tried to reset the workspace and then reinstalled. I am able to bring up some Genesis 8 females by name. No Genesis 9 and no genesis 8 males. It is also showing stuff that normally doesn't come up. Like Michael 4 is on the system but never loads. It is like it went back in time. I can still call up previous scenes that contain the missing characters but spawn new ones. If you mean are all the models listed in DIM itself, yes. They all appear to be there. They are only missing in Studio as far as I can tell.
UPDATE...I tried uninstalling something I bought yesterday and reinstalling it. Now that product works. I hope I don't have to reinstall everything in DIM. what could cause Daz to forget everything beyond a certain point in time?
What happened to Michael (and Victoria 4)?Michael 4 and Victoria 4 are still a big thing among the Poser community.
DAZ's figures have advanced by a lot during the past fourteen years. The real breakthrough (imo) came with Genesis 3. Michael and Victoria are now character morphs of Genesis base figures.
The latest iteration is Genesis 9, which of course has optional Michael and Victoria morphs. What happened to Michael (and Victoria 4)?Hi,
after a long absence (buying a new computer, having to send it in for repairs shortly after) I finally got around to install DAZ on it (the main reason for buying the new machine).
Running 4.24. I cant seem to install the Generation 4 figures? Michael 4 Base / Victoria 4.2 Base do not show up in the Product list or the in Studio Install list. When I install them over DIM they still don't show up in the product list nor in My Content (nor My Library). What am I missing?
Using Genesis 9 method to practice drawing by handYou do not need the Premiere software. The free version is totally capable of making great stuff.
What you would benefit a lot from is getting some poses and getting some specific textures. Some specific examples would be muscle textures. For example, for G9
- https://www.daz3d.com/masculine-muscle-maps-for-genesis-9
- https://www.daz3d.com/feminine-muscle-maps-for-genesis-9.
Probably it is a good idea to get the Muscles Genesis version 8&3, because you can find more poses, and sometimes with a great discount n_n
- https://www.daz3d.com/muscle-maps-for-genesis-3-and-8-female
- https://www.daz3d.com/muscle-maps-for-genesis-3-and-8-male
There are also some Morphs. Look for one that has sliders so you can adjust the intensity. This would be useful to define shapes, with skin on top :)Also, you could get a skeleton. There is one for Victoria 4 and Michael 4. That is something that nothing else can do drawing by viewing the muscles themselves and seeing the bones.
And if you want to adjust the poses, the Power Pose panel is your best friend.

But even using the free version and some free assets you can get, I would say that, besides posing, the most important thing would be lighting and framing. Try first 1 light setups.New Year, New Sales Thread: Report Issues Here 2 "Reporting Only"miladyderyni_173d399f47 said:

Converting V4 clothes to G8I tried the tips below and the outcome is bad...

You need to install a V4 clone for G8F to autofit V4 clothes to G8F directly, only clones from Genesis 1 and up are included in G8F base.
V4 clone:
https://www.daz3d.com/sy-victoria-4-and-michael-4-clones-for-genesis-8
There's also this batch converter:
https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-clothing-converter-from-victoria-4-to-genesis-8-female
Another option is to convert in two steps: first autofit from V4 to Genesis 1, save the G1 version of the clothes, then autofit the G1 version to G8F.
gen 9 figure convert to gen 8?Which "G4"? Genssi 4 or fourth generation Daz figures (e.g. Victoria 4, Michael 4 etc.)? However, any conversion does require that the destination figure has a clone for the source figure.
UltraScatter2 - Now in store! On my MacMini M4 I have installed both the Millennium SubDragon, Millennium Dragon, and Millennium Dragon 2.0, but when I click on the SubDragon a window pops up 'The "SubDragon" support folder could not be found.' And then a window with PowerLoader : Import is there. The window is blank. Millennium Dragon crashes DAZ when you try to load. Millennium Dragon 2 is stable and loads. I do have UltraScatter2 Plugin. I do not have Victoria 4.2, Michael 4 or the The Kids 4 installed. Did not want to deal with the files.
Victoria 4 crashes Daz StudioI did not install Victoria 4.2 or Michael 4 on my new machines because of the massive number of files that need metadata, but with this issue, is it still possible for someone who wants to use the characters to move them up to Genesis or Genesis 2 with GenX? I am not sure, but I thought I had read GenX was not working any longer? But if you uninstalled your plugin long enough to load the character and move her up to a newer model, could you then reinstall the plug-in and use both at the same time?
Star Trek Uniform For Valiant Breaks After Saving and LoadingMoved to Techncial Help as it is not a Daz Studio applicatiion issue. Diect product link https://www.daz3d.com/valiant-for-michael-4
You may need to right-click on the figure and select Transfer Active Moprhs, though that should need reapplying with most morphs.
Brianna 9, Here Comes the Bride to DAZ3DShe kinda reminds me of Victoria 5, so I want her for that reason. https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-5 It's not the first time DAZ remade a legacy shape under a different name. Penny 8 was Victoria 3, and Noa 8.1 was Michael 4. So I guess Brianna 9 is Victoria 5, lol.
I'm also curious about her skin tone. It looks like something I somehow don't have yet.
Generation 3 Aiko and Hiro Appreciation ThreadAlthough I don't use Generation 3 it was a lot of fun to go through the whole thread! Is there also a Victoria 4 / Michael 4 / Aiko+Hiro 4 / The Girl 4 / Genesis / Genesis 2 M/F etc. appreciation thread (because that is where my experience starts)? Thanks!
Conversions From Victoria 4/Genesis 2 to Genesis 9I'm currently obsessed with doing v4/m4 to G9 conversions. I use the method mentioned above - my path is GenX to G3; G3 to G9. I'm not interested in texture conversions, only the shapes.
I flipping love the results. I either:
- Keep bodies dialed in at 100% on G9 on the v4/m4 characters I picked up for their realism. I sincerely believe many of the most realistic bodies are of that generation. I wasn't around for it, but I understand something-something real bodies scans and a higher density mesh than any Genesis figure. Yes, you lose that density many times over on a conversion and through the Genesis generations, but the general shapes still port over fine and look great
- Dial in a small percentage of the head morph into a G9 character. Ratios of facial features are all over the place in v4/m4 in a way that isn't true of Genesis figures. That really diversifies character possibilities! I'll get detail back via good G9 textures and HD detail morphs
Or a combination of the two for characters that have useful shapes in both.
Genesis 3 to 9 step requires left shoulder at -45 bend and right shoulder at 45 bend (thanks @barbult). Then memorise figure pose before the port.
I'll save Genesis 9 morphs, load a new G9 and then apply saved morphs. That allows me to use shape rigger, but tbh adjust rigging to shape works decently too.
You'll need the morphs++ products for Victoria 4.2 and Michael 4. Was there a Michael 4.2? I can't find him if so, but the 4 morphs work fine. Some of the steps are to inject the needed morphs into GenX require digging about your runtime to find what you need, so if you give conversions a go and get stuck, holler and we can walk through where to find things.
Leather Muir capHello all!
So one of my friends heard about my 3D modeling hobby between Daz3D and Blender, and asked if I could do a kind of mockup of a generic Leatherman. Yes, he's part of the BDSM/Leather community, and no, I don't judge, because he and his boys are super-sweet. The man is a genius in the kitchen and knows how to make gourmet dishes from all over the world. Anyhow, I told him I would give it a whirl, and so far, I've been doing good. Until now.
The Muir Cap.
I can't seem to find one on the site here or anywhere else. The one semi-lookalike I did purchase was from a German WWII set, but it's for Michael 4, and when I imported it into Blender, it was a triangulated nightmare mess. I can't even de-triangulate it, as the Alt-J trick in Blender just reduced the number of triangles, not transform them into squares. And it's not even symmetrical in Edit Mode. Rather than spend hours figuring out how to retopologize it, I thought I'd come here and ask for help. My initial thought was to create one from scratch using blueprints, but I couldn't find any online. Then I thought about just ordering one and tearing it apart to get the shapes and then rebuilding it in 3D. Sir looked at me like he wanted to unalive me for that idea: APPARENTLY it's complete sacrilege in the leather community to desecrate an item like that. So that idea is out the window. I know the kinds of stuff he does for "fun", and I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that if he's mad.
*shudders at the thought
So here I am, out of ideas. The rest of the clothing items I was able to kitbash together (I would like one of those cross-shoulder belts: I can't think of the name for it though). I'll attach a photo of one for reference. Thanks for any help!
