Studio 6 Filament on Mac: Some surfaces are textured solid black
jmucchiello said:
You need to set filament shaders on the surfaces. https://www.daz3d.com/city-office-block has IRAY shaders. In filament mode, it doesn't render them correctly.
I expected lighing issues when Studio translates Iray shaders to Filament. What I didn't expect was the completely black rendering of only certain faces of an object that uses the same material over its entire geometry. A Google search seems to indicate that the only real difference between Iray and Filament is how they react to light. If this is wrong, please let me know.
I'm really just trying to fix the preview; I want my final render to be Iray. A colleague has tested these same models on his Windows box, and none of these solid black surfaces appear when he uses Filament in the Viewport. I suspect this is a Mac-only problem, but as usual, I could be very wrong.
What steps would you take to convert an Iray shader to a Filament shader, please? Thanks!

This is outstanding!!! Thank you so much :)
The "The Weather Changes More Often than the Thread Title" Complaint ThreadSemi Complaint : was finally able to change my CPAP mask to a nasal cushion ,gave me a bit of a fit because all the parts weren't sent and missing pieces had to be ordered ,then no instructions were included so after a Google search I now can use the Nasal cushion and I have to say so far what a difference !! so much lighter and it doesn't make my claustraphobia kick off ,major plus. May have to look into a chin strap to keep from breathing through my mouth but that's not a big deal ..Now waiting on a grocery delivery ,I hope they read the notes ......
Can someone identify this character from the Daz 3D Youtube ad video?I don't know, but I do know that having a source is often very useful for identifying assets, so I'm assuming it's this video:
For one of the big clues this provides: the publication date of May 2021 rules out her being a G9 character, so narrows down anyone's search.

Trying to find updates has been very hard. haven't seen anything yet on DIM. and haven't seen any from other sites. So far my only choice is to load everything in Daz 4.24 then save the scene and then open it in Daz 6... this is costing me a lot of time and headach!!!
No plug-ins have been updated yet, when they are I am sure it will be announced by their authors. don't know that any scripts have had an update as such, though some work anyway.
A couple PAs have said in the Daz PA Commercial Products forum that they've submitted updated assets to Daz. But no one can say how long it will take for them to release.

I hope there's a good reason for removing support for .daz files? A quick search shows that I have hundreds of them....
The format has been deprecated for years if not decades, so it's not that surprising that they chose not to port the code supporting it in DS6.
Moreover the format has always been problematic, it has changed multiple times between various versions of DS and some older files already didn't open at all even in DS4 (and as the files were binary there's no way to edit them if they don't load). It's surprising when they don't announce it though. Or did they announce it somewhere? Its frustrating that they make it our homework to convert them rather than prompting to convert them when we try opening them.
They did, in the first post of the evergreen thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/727631/daz-studio-2025-6-25-2025-x-evergreen#latest
I'm not trying to be rude, but you can't reasonably expect people to look back to a post from April 2025 to see what breaking changes they need to be prepared for in Jun of 2026, or much less even know that evergreen is or how it relates to them.
I definitely agree that they should have communicated more clearly about the fact that there is important information in this thread when they launched the general release. There should probably be a link to it on the new Daz Studio 6 page, for example.
Thank you Leana. I hope you have a good evening.

Its frustrating that they now hide them and make it our homework to convert them rather than prompting to convert them when we try opening them.

Boy this place is diffrent now.mindsong said:
This is a pretty good summary of the status-quo around here as I see it as well. Thanks for the time and balanced perspective.
I would add that in both the store and forums, there is a more 'corporate' feel - less 'warm' and personal than in days gone by - less fun for me, and I mostly lurk now - but maybe I'm jaded just got used to the place so it's not as novel as it once was? Prolly the nature of any growing maturing organism (DAZ grows up too)...
I would add, as someone who joined and got active around the CV-19 lock downs, about the changes here in the Commons that I've noticed.
Back in the day, when folks posted, they'ed share an image, one two or half a dozen. The renders really brought home the point they were trying to get across. Now ... it's a wall of words. For a community built around visual arts, that shift was a big let down for me. Maybe people flocked to the Gallery or elsewhere to share their renders.
I also noticed a change in the tenor of discussions, more polarized views about the enfant terrible, the annoying fly flitting around people's mindspace. For a while now it's been Generative AI. From time to time the issue of nudity flares up. Sure, Daz upped its photorealism game, but at these heightened levels of "wow", people probably felt more disappointed when their personal renders came up short. Who did they blame? Anyone and everyone -- meaning Daz Studio, the PAs, the mods etc. -- but themselves.
When I started out, folks were helpful and the discourse in the Commons was filled with tips, ideas and inspiring renders. The pandemic was hard and everyone was stuck at home. Daz was a great way to find solace and community. Now, absent that common, globe-spanning duress, I guess we're back to sniping and picking each other off.
Hmm. I don't know. Maybe I'm getting sentimental with the passing years. Maybe those halcyon memories and early impression I have about the Forum weren't really so warm and fuzzy.
OK. That's my rant, an exception to the rule I try follow: i.e. Silence is Golden. I was just a dumb engineer before I stumbled on Daz and 3D visual arts. Who am I to lay claim on the truth?
Cheers!
Daz 6 Shader Issue questionThank you, did both. The shader is this one https://www.daz3d.com/colorwerks-hair-shaders-for-iray I'll see if any others produce the same results.

You should probably do two things. First, file a support ticket for Technical Support on that; you can do that here: https://bugs.daz3d.com/hc/en-us/requests
Second, report it in the Daz Studio 6 release forum thread; Since Studio 6 is so new, support staff may be monitoring it and may be able to help.
Question: do you know if that's the main Colorwerks shader, or if it's Colorwerks Extreme or Colorwerks 3? Would trying one of the other options -- if you have them -- maybe give you back the results you used to get?
*closed* RRRR Remake or Sequel Voting threadSorry I haven't contributed this time. I really thought I had till next sunday.
But well, after all the other interesting topics on the forum were abandoned (especially the contests) and the gallery was effectively shut down, I tried to keep my interest alive for a while. But right now, I’ve just lost the spark. My work load didn't help either. I haven't even launched DS in the last two months. But I voted.
Off Topic Thread #2We have lockers here in oz. Not sure about police taking parcels tho!

G9 QueryBrowsing through G9 characters I see that all the "proper" (not just morphs) female characters come with additional male anatomy. Yet a similar search of male characters reveals that they don't come with female anatomy.
Why the hell are female characters coming packaged with male anatomy?
