  • Reinstalled DS for the 3rd time, and still won't start

    DS doesn't have to phone home at all to load content. You have the option to install content directly from DS smart content tab when you log in, but that's not mandatory. You can also still install content manually or via DIM, and use the Content library tab which shows the actual folders and files rather than  Smart Content tab relying on metadata.
     

    And your old content should still work fine. It might not appear in Smart Content tab due to not having metadata but should be visible in Content library. If your content is not displayed in content library then there's something wrong in your settings.

    EDIT: DAZ will also close without error If G9 is shaped and then add the Material Suit with anatomical elements. This does not happen with the non-anatomical elements suits, you can apply a shape and then apply the suit.

    Sorry @Jepegraphics and @necroscension that you are having problems.  Are either of you comfortable with the structure of the HMap duf files?  The Apply script takes the selected HMap file, copies it to the Daz temp directory as a d##.duf file (e.g., d12.duf), transforms it by adding some text and replacing text, and then finally applies it to the material suit.  If you can take one of the d##.duf files and figure out what inside it is making DS unstable (i.e., by changing it in a text editor and applying it and seeing if that makes DS crash), I can fix the script.

  • Could Not find Exported File from Daz Studio

    First check your Windows user name, it has to be pure Ascii characters (for instance: contato) other than a name in 'unicode'. This plugin does not support unicode. Besides, if you Windows user name belongs to ADMINISTRATORS user group, the import might also fail. A friend of mine ever had the same problem, after creating a new user (set to Adminitrator user group), everything worked fine...

    That is strange.  I guess the first thing to figure out is if it is the Apply Hmap script or the mat suits themselves.  If you add the mat suit with genitals and just try to change shape, any crashes?  If you add the mat suit without genitals, apply Hmap, and THEN add genitals mat suit, any crashes?

    Thank you for the reply, I assume the Hmat scrip works fine, also the Suit applies fine, but as soon as I touch G9 to change the shape, DAZ Studio crashes. When I apply the Suit without gens, all works fine, the Hmat applies,and I can change the shape of G9. Now only it is without gens - when I then try to add the G8 Anat Element Masc Suit, Studio crashes without warning and without any error message, it simply closes. It is frustrating. All gens versions don't work on my machine, the G8F/M with Masc Gens, the G8.1 F/M with Masc gens and also the single Masc gens suits. Funny that I seem to be th eonly one yet with that problem - odd with all the buyers!!!

    You should be able to use some converted morphs in a mix-and-match way, but they do affect the whole body.  I am not sure what you mean by a link to the clone.  The G8M clone is provided by Daz in /data/Daz 3D/Genesis 9/Base/Morphs/Daz 3D/Clones/CloneGenesis8Male.dsf

    I think he's talking about new G8 converted characters depending on your "Actor/Full Body/People/Feminine/Genesis 8 Female Body" that is a G8F clone, but with the same height as G9 :) We currently can't use directly official G8 clones for G9 because they don't have a correct rigging (even though we can do "Adjust Rigging to Shape..."), but yours is 100% functional.

    If new converted characters were both depending on it, we'll be able to mix them because the morph would represent only the differences from G8F, so if we want to mix several G8F characters, we would have to enable "Genesis 8 Female Body" at 100% and all other characters at their respective proportions.

     

    Okay, so. When we work on converters, we have to choose.

    We can dial in the clone when we convert the morph, so that it looks just like it looked on G8. This is what we did.

    OR we can copy the morph directly without using the import/export on the clone itself. We did not do this, because the result is that you would get the morph's effect versus G9 base, and it wouldn't look masc or fem as it did on G8F or G8M.

    The result is that yes, each morph that is copied is being combined with the G8 head or body clone, so that it will look like it looked on G8.

Unfortunately not Thomas nor I have time to make videos, so the docs are the only available reference that you can trust. Hopefully as users learn to use the new features they will make new videos or update the old ones.

    I would gladly make videos if I understood what to do and got things to work. For my ever growing sci-fi scene, I finally had to import characters and animations from Mixamo.

    @spa You have to save the pose presets then import them in blender. The geograft will have its own animation since it is a separate figure. Of course you need to import the morphs you used for the animation otherwise it will not work. Actually there's no support for object animation so you can't import the camera, that's a requested feature anyway so Thomas is aware.

    note. You import the geograft animation on the merged rig. Only the geograft bones and morphs will be affected. For geografts you have to set "object transformations affect = none" to don't overwrite the figure location.

    Or you can use Sagan that will export an alembic animation of the whole scene, that's probably easier to transfer from daz studio to blender. While diffeomorphic is more intended to import in blender then animate there, though it can import daz animations.

  • When do objects cast shadows?

    Hello,

    When I import an object created in blender into DazStudio, a shadow may appear as shown in the attached figure.
    I tested the shadowed condition.
    As a result, shadows appear when the object is processed.

    For example, create a cylinder in Blender.
    Even if you import it into Daz, the shadow will not appear, but if you extend the top of the cylinder as shown in the figure, the shadow will appear.

    There is no problem with the shape, just a shadow on the object.
    There is no problem with the texture as it is, but I would like to know the cause of the shadow.

    <Contents tested>
    -Aligned normals.
    -change faces to triangles
    -Re-textured

  • Diffeomorphic - does a step by step tutorial exist?

    I'm not new to Diffeo, but trying to bring my first animation over to blender.
    Is there any way to keep the (scene) position and the morphs of for example db-xy and ngv8 when i import to blender?
    I really want to use the daz animation in blender.

     

    What I did:

    - export characters in A pose.
    - import action
    Characters are not in the right spot (they are in 0/0/0) and ngv8 and dbxx are not transferred.

  • How do I ensure the size of something that is exported?

    Export from DS at 100% import at 100% it will work in hexagon.  Hexagon and DazStudio have the exact same scale.

     

    Poser  on the other hand has an infinitely small scale  and messes up all sorts of sizing.  the Poser multiplier is approx.  -24000

     

    That is why sometimes,  people say they imported an obj from poser but they can't find it. The reality is its there,  they just can't see it.  Zoom in on zero position (0,0,0,) until you find that miniscule import.  If its in the scene tree it is usually there,  just really, really, really small.

    That's a dumb question (I'm least I'm aware :-p) but what is the best way to adjust tight shapes for custom clothes? Do I have to fix it in Blender and import again each time? It seems to ignore morph deltas and updating geometry make things worse. Any advice?

  • Missing DAZ Files

    There is no reason to log in if you are not usign connect, and if you are logged in you may inadvertently install content (again) through Connect (by double-clicking on a product that is not installed at all or that is isntalled but failed to register correctly). You will also get metadata updates, which might cause issues if the actual installed files do not match up.
