  • What are the oldest purchases in your product library?

    People: Michael 3, Victoria 3

    Props: Tropical Elements

    Environment: The Living Room

Software: DAZ|Studio PC Low-Bandwidth (whatever that is)

Clothing: Basic Wear for M4 shows up first, but my library lists items around the same time that were in the store much longer, like Vixen and Ravyness for V3 and A3, respectively.

I'm guessing a lot of these were freebies that I picked up when I first joined. From what I can gather my first money-down purchase at DAZ were the body morphs for the original Genesis, Michael 5 and Victoria 5, and the Leather Jacket for Genesis.

  • Dynamic Clothing for Genesis Not Loading

First: do you have any other Optitex clothing items you could try? If not, there used to be a bunch of freebies on their store page - maybe you could try one of those?

    This is the link: http://www.optitex-dynamiccloth.com/FreebieDownload01.php

(If it doesn't work try the indirect route: http://www.optitex-dynamiccloth.com/ then click on Freebies - Daz Freebies.

ETA: Most of the clothes are for Victoria 4 and Michael 4, but if you go to page 14 there are a couple of Genesis items there.

  • G8F T-Pose?

I have tried, particularly those numbers, and they didn't work quite as well as the numbers I give below. The numbers above are the generally accepted and seem to work well. I have used them myself.

My method of getting the numbers was to load Victoria 7 in the zero pose. Then I loaded a version of G8F with the V7 morph applied to G8F via RiverSoftArt's G3F to G8F morph transfer. I left the right side alone, showing the zero pose for each and the left side I tried to match as well as possible. It is possible all I have found is the figures used in RSA's pose transfer script, but it's as good as I can get.

The images attached show the front and back views. G3F is in cream, G8F in green.

    Left Thigh Bend: Side-Side = -6
    Left Collar: Bend = 2.50
Left Shoulder Bend: Bend = 43.50
Left Forearm Bend: Bend = 0.20
Mirror these for the right side.

The differences in pose and final finger positions from the SY quoted numbers are small, but I think this set of numbers is very slightly closer. You may disagree, but if you do, it would be helpful for your argument if you could show the evidence supporting why you disagree. Force of personality, personal charm, being or quoting an authority, unfortunately doesn't affect numbers - which is just as well for me sometimes, lacking charm, forceful personality and any pretention to being an authority on anything.

    Regards,

    Richard.

    Working on exactly that smiley

Yay laugh really curious what you can do with the new tools.

I was surprised there was little 8.1 content so far. Now that I've played with it for a couple of hours, ok I get it, there's more to learn than I thought.

Revisited an older scene and applied the PBRSkin shader, and microtextures for the hand (old bump was bit coarse in closeup). It's not quite finished but I already like it better overall than the 8.0 version.

(Details details... with Misumi it was easy to get the color roughly where it should be, but then couldn't get it quite right, the original has a slightly more yellowish tone. The texturing.xyz micro normals resulted in brutal shadow artifacts, had to increase subdiv. I think the new skin gloss is nicer, but lots of dials to learn)

P.S. as a card carrying member of the Misumi Fan Club (I'm under the impression I'm not the only one), I hope one day there'll be a Misumi v2 with the new UV/shader/morphs, and possibly some upgrades like Ensley's feet. Looks like PAs never do this, might not make sense business wise unless it's Victoria? I imagine it's way less effort than doing a figure from scratch though. Well, let's see how far I can push her myself...

  • Maelwenn Anais V4 ported to G8F

I saw that recently this artist has been quite active on Genesis 8 and I really loved her Anais product for Aiko / Victoria 4: both the texture and the morphs were great!

Would be really great to see it updated for G8F!

    Thank you.

  • Has anyone made their own maps for 8.1 yet?

Hey guys. I have Genesis 8.0 characters that I've made textures for using SkinBuilder for G8F, and while trying to move them over to the new Victoria 8.1 shader, I realized pretty quick that the maps just look ... different.
The kind of map used for Dual Lobe Specularity looks radically different, and of course there's the new AO maps that SkinBuilder doesn't make anything for. I decided to go out and get new software, specifically Substance Painter, thinking I could maked my own maps with that. And while I can make my own normal maps, the "roughness" maps it makes are still pretty different ... almost opposites actually, and the AO maps Substaince Painter makes are almost all white with nearly no details, unlike the mostly black AO map with tons of little white details that Victoria 8.1 uses.
Does anyone have any experience making the kind of maps that the Victoria 8.1 shader uses? I could totally use some help in figuring out how to go about it.

  • Import into houdini

Wiothout a picture it's hard to be sure, but I suspect you need to reapply the transparency map to the eyelashes - the lashes, before Victoria/Michael 8.1, are usually flat planes with a map to break them into hairs.

The issue with the hair may also be related to transparency maps.

Pricing is just getting too high.  Bundels are high - Everyday sales are too low and too complicated. I've been buying here since DAZ began, Zygote days ...

    So have I.

Remember how the base mesh and texture map came separately for Victoria? For a price that, adjusted to 2021 dollars is what we pay these days for a pro bundle at intro price with base figure (with texture and a ton of JCMs), 2-3 HD variations, 3-4 outfits, 2-3 hair dos, and anatomical elements.

That is not really "these days" as you are refering to an old style pro bundle which we have not seen now for 6 months or more. At that time a pro bundle had 11 or 12 items (note that back in Genesis 2 days pro bundles had 16-17 items and were 10 dollars cheaper).  DAZ has cleverly split pro bundles from one $135 bundle of 11 items into two bundles of 8 items each, of which there will only be 15 unique items since the base character will be in both bundles. So they only need to commission 4 more items than before in order to charge twice as much.

So i know that its not legal to export let's say Victoria 8 mesh as obj/fbx whatever and sell it, but what if someone actually sculpts it and change it's appearance, does it still counts as a daz model? Can daz identify it? Is it legal to sell it?

Some people seem to make a good living out of it. I know somone on CGtrader, seems to kitbash and re-texture.  I bought one of there models and reported it.  It got taken down but many more remain

I hope this is the right Corner.

I want to use the material for the Face but I can not see the Makeuo (red Lips) in the viewport.

If I render it with iray,  I can see the Makeup.

    What do i wrong?

    Thanks so much.

  • Check out these Genesis 8 and 8.1 male and female skin overlays

Thanks so much for your help.  Great news to wake up to!  It's a seamless texture that I painted in Blender.  Now that I know how to package it, I'm planning to add a lot more options.  Likely some moles, freckles, scars, maybe some tattoos.  I actually don't have any G8.1 figues except the base male and female, and was really hoping to see what it looks like on Victoria or some other figures.  I'm not really sure if they use the same dimensions of image files for their surfaces, or if that even matters.  I'll leave the link live for a while to get some feedback and edit the post title to reflect that it works.

  • Tank Thong for Genesis 8 Female

Getting much closer!  I spent some time watching Esha's fantastic texturing tutorials, and I now have 30, yes 30 handmade iRay "Lycra/Spandex" material settings.  I have 30 iRay color MATs for the whole suit, and another 30MATs to apply the colors to the trim for the "ringer/collegiate-style" color contrast.  Below, G8F (Babina 8 materials) is wearing the suit in red.  Victoria 8.1, feeling really cheeky, is wearing the light blue with white trim suit.  I'm still working on a couple morphs- thigh side-side at 85 degrees, as well as additional unber-breast smoothing for extreme abdomen/chest bending.

  • Essential Products (in your view)

Some products I use a lot with an eye towards utilities rather than specific characters/hairs/outfits/sets... still obviously very subjective:

200+ Head and Face Morphs: https://www.daz3d.com/200-plus-head-and-face-morphs-bundle-for-genesis-8-female-s-and-male-s

    Fit Control: https://www.daz3d.com/fit-control-bundle-for-genesis-8-females-and-males
Might be redundant if you have SY Clothing Fit Helper (which I don't have), but I'm getting the impression that Fit Control can do more.

IRAY Converter for Genesis & Generation 4: https://www.daz3d.com/iray-converter-for-genesis-and-generation-4-bundle
I hear there's better options out there by now... but what can I say, I get great results with this.

    GenX

    https://www.daz3d.com/genx2-addon-for-genesis-2
    https://www.daz3d.com/genx2-addon-for-genesis-3
A big, clunky old-timer on its last legs... and yet, I'm putting it on this list.

    IRAY Light probe Kit: https://www.daz3d.com/iray-light-probe-kit

    Terradome 3: https://www.daz3d.com/terradome-3-iray

    DForce Slime & Goo: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-slime-and-goo

    Fight Lab: https://www.daz3d.com/fight-lab-poses-and-expressions-for-genesis-8-male
These two pose sets just offer incredible value for money.

    dForce Magnet: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-magnet
To be honest I'm using this less than I thought I would... but it's still useful to have.

    Anagenessis 2: https://www.daz3d.com/n-g-s-anagenessis-2-revolution
I don't use this all that often, but I got it for very cheap and it's nice to have more option for the skins that you have.

Ultra Genesis Studio Vol. 1: https://www.daz3d.com/ultra-genesis-studio-vol-1-iray-box-lights
This is frequently available for free. I didn't expect much but I use it surprisingly often.

RenderStudio Modular 13 - Lens Flares And Light Beams: https://www.daz3d.com/renderstudio-modular-13-lens-flares-and-light-beams
Another product that's worth grabbing when it's available for free.

    Genesis Supersuit: https://www.daz3d.com/supersuit-pro-bundle
This product is obviously rather dated (and it doesn't play well with Smoothing Modifier)... but I got it for very cheap, and I think it's a lot of fun to play around with.

  • Adding Clothing Morphs?
    Starkdog said:

I recall some time ago with the transfer utility that you could tick any or none of the morphs (Victoria 7, Olympia 7, Fitness, Pear Shape, etc.) to be added to the clothing item while it was being rigged.  Has something replaced this?  I really don't want to export out a ton of OBJ files to tweak in Blender or Hexagon to only re-import them and manually create morphs (I know there is Morph Load Pro, but it's only looking for OBJs to add as morphs).  Does anyone know where this functionality went?

    Thanks, -David

Just now had been released code66's shapeinjector, 2 click adding a gazilion morph. Really really handful script, spared me lot of hours even if i used not so long time
