To fix those last four you need to have the Right Hand Bone Selected on the G9 as the [A] Attributes you need to drag for each finger are under Pose Controls, so you will not see them in parameters with just the G9 Selected. (Example: Label "Right Index Finger Bend" Name"body_ctrl_rIndexBend", Drag that to the 1st Stage of "3duJCMFF_IndexBend_r" in Property Hierarchy Pane (edit mode on in parameters of course to be able to drag it, Then do the same for the other 3 fingers... IF you want to fix them yourself.)

If you type only IndexBend in the search field of the property hierarchy, you should get the properties related to Focus Finger (to see how the left property is set) and the missing property for the right property, so no need to select the hand: you can just drag and drop the missing property from the property hiearchy panel.

I think I have fixed all the properties reported, now onto removing the vertices wrongly moved by the two morphs identified by @barbult before saving everything.

Question: if I save the scene with the Genesis 9 figure I loaded to fix the problems, will the problems stay fixed if I load that scene back, in case I made a mistake saving the properties themselves?

  • Daz Studio 6.25[.0.x], General Release!

Did you login; Connect - Login? It needs to be authorized to be enabled.

OK....I was thinking I was the only one having this issue since I've seen no one else with it. I D/Led and installed DS6 when it was released

    I'm running a Window11 (12th gen)i5 16 gig ram with Gigbyte RTX4060

And I too am missing all the features of my Premier package of DS6 and yes, I did log in to my Daz accout with suscess. And still nothing.

Everything work find on my latest version of DS4. Juust not in DS6. I've tried re-installing it a couple of time when first installed on release day. But look like I may wanna hold off on that till thats fixed from the looks of things.

I will confess that I am too lazy to read the whole thread But:

    1. Install Daz Studio 6.25
    2. Go to DIM and make sure the filters are enabled for the 6.25 features (click on the gear symbol on the upper right, and select Install Modules > Public Build and allow 6.25 plugins to be installed)
    3. Search in DIM for "Premier" and install the plug-ins
    4. Open Daz Studio 6.25 and login.  Stay logged in until all the metadata updates. Quit Daz Studio and reopen it. Hopefully now everything is installed and authorized.

  • barbult's Discursion Thread

This discussion was created from comments split from: barbult's take on the lives of Jack and Richard.
I asked Richard Haseltine (forum admin) to separate comments that were not closely related to my stories of Jack and Richard, into a new thread. This is that thread. This is where we discuss topics that deviate away from main story and renders in barbult's take on the lives of Jack and Richard.
Richard named the new thread for me. Note the clever name "discursion" that he chose. He assured my that it was not a typo.laugh

Edit: I changed the thread name to shorten it, because the length of the thread names made them look a lot alike, particularly when you couldn't readily see the full thread name. Thanks to Ron for the suggestion. I still like Richard's choice of "discursion", so I kept that. That is a word I didn't even know before, but it is so appropriate.

  • Clothing Hangers: is the autofit dialog box supposed to open?

if you use the g8 hanger and load the g8 clothing onto it, it should just click on. I've never had it trigger the autofit dialog. Ditto for g9 clothing on the g9 hanger.

Now if you use g8 clothing on the g9 hanger (or vice versa) it will trigger the conversion. Also, some of the hangers have wholly custom rigging (the pants hangers) or no rigging at all (the prop format hangers). I couldnt figure out a way to smash the clothing flat and get it into the pants hanger to drape, and the prop hangers are there for people who just want props for decor.

The hanger contains the rigging from g9/g8 respectively and it is aligned to the character location so if you use the right combination of clothing and hanger it should just do the thing.  I'm told that smart content mixes it up a little sometimes - so you might want to go to regular content view and make sure you have grabbed the correct hanger(s) for your purpose. When a PA makes a thing, they don't have smart content (which relays on metadata made during the store packing process) so when in doubt look at the actual file folders which are what the creator was using while they built.

I hope that helps clear up some of the issues!

(and sorry for being late to this post .. the search here is um. Challenging)

Loading from the Content Library doesn't fix any of the issues that I can see. Loading the hanger and clothing from the Content Library still brings up the Autofit dialog. Did you actually test that with the delivered product before suggesting that it would avoid the Autofit dialog?

The worst problem that I continue to see is that the clothing falls through the hanger. I have tried different hangers and different clothing. I have yet to find a combination that works. It's a great idea, but the execution totally fails for me.

In contrast to clothing that falls through hangers, some clothing has a dForce Modifier Weight Node that prevents part of the clothing from simulating. In that case, if the neckline area has dForce mapped out, the garment does not fall to the hanger at all, which is also a problem.

The attached screenshot is "Wood Hanger for G9 DForce Clothing" and the dress from "dForce 2-in-1 Ruffled Maxi Dress for Genesis 9". The hanger was loaded first and the dress was loaded onto the hanger. Then I simulated with default simulation settings. The dress fell through the hanger.

If I am doing something wrong, I will be very happy to receive instruction for how to do it correctly.

Edit: I added a third image to show that the dress and hanger were not intersecting at all before simulation.

I don't think you did anything wrong ~  I could reproduce the issue.

The culprit is that there're some settings of dynamic surfaces partially remained on the hanger for some reason... The hanger shouldn't have been set as a dForce item with dynamic surfaces anyway (or at most set as a dForce item with Static Surfaces... if really needed.)

If you Remove dForce Modifier... from the hanger, the issue will be gone.

  • Stereoscopic display in viewport

i posted about the subject sometime ago and i got a response that the option was'nt available. i tried the Ai assistant in Daz6 and the response was the same. I tried the Ai prompt in Google search and I got a favorable response. It involves the use of the SDK. However I've never used the SDK to create anything. I'm not sure if that option is a must have or wish they were something like that available to many users. I saw that available in Maxon Cinema 4D and Blender.

AI is a powerful technology and it's definitely not just about generating garbage. Just look at the difference between AI a few years ago and AI now, and you'll know that it will eventually evolve into something impeccable. I'm sure this article doesn't criticize AI or incite fear. If you want to delete it, then delete it. I'll just stay silent from now on.

"...something impeccable."  That is more than scary and it's going to happen.  For good AND for bad, it's going to happen.  You will NOT be able to tell whether it's AI or real.

    I have a LOVE/HATE relationship with AI, I think.

Social media is horrible AND wonderful.

    Kids are bullied...

AND, for instance, my husband reconnected with his family after 20 years of not speaking to them.  He learned his brother had passed away on Facebook.  He had NEVER been on Facebook before.  Then, we were able to have many wonderful visits with his sisters.  Then, one of them died of cancer 3 years later.  I really got to know her and love her.

    **********************************************************

I hope your post isn't removed.

This is the only forum that I have to talk about the thing the makes me so very happy.  I NEED Daz3d, the forums, the products and Daz Studio.  You have NO idea what I went through both physically and mentally 3 years ago with stomach surgery.  The after effects of the anethesia were awful.  I have lost so many memories and my husband has to tell me about things.  I didn't lose my major memories...just little things.

I NEED to know what you guys think about things.

Things are starting to become clearer now. I had previously assumed that Victoria 4 was both a Daz Studio and a Poser Figure. It’s good to know that she is strictly a Poser Figure. Are there any Functions that don't work when using Victoria 4 in Daz Studio but do work in Poser?

V4 is indeed primarily a poser figure. She's the first of the Daz figures which was provided with Daz Studio materials (for 3DL) but she's not a figure made specifically for DS like the Genesis line.

Most V4 content made for poser works in DS, There are however a few exceptions:

    • poser dynamic hair doesn't work at all in DS
    • poser dynamic clothes load as static props in DS. They often play well with dForce if you apply a dForce modifier though.
    • A lot of content for V4 only has poser materials. DS only reads a few basic properties of Poser materials so you will usually need to adjust materials in DS.
    • A small number of custom morphs for V4 use a tech called "PMD injection", which is specific to poser.
    • At the time V4 was released, there was a difference in the way Poser and DS handled scaling along individual axes. A handful of products rely on the way Poser handled scaling and therefore don't work as intended in DS.

I wasn't actually aware until now that Clothing for Victoria 4 Figures was rigged in Poser.

Either in Poser or using DS figure setup tools, which are able to do parametric rigging. But not using the transfer utility like Genesis clothes, as that is for weight mapped figures.

Does Poser use a different Rigging System?

Poser offers 3 types of rigging:

    • Parametric rigging with spherical falloff zones => the one V4 and earlier Daz figures use, compatible with DS
    • A variant of parametric rigging which uses "capsule" falloff zones, introduced in Poser 8 => not compatible with DS. It was used for a handful of figures produced by the owners of Poser like the P8 base figures.
    • Their own version of weight mapping, introduced in Poser 9 IIRC => not compatible with DS. Used for the Poser base figures since P9, La Femme and L'Homme, and the Poser version of Dawn.

Is there actually a Feature in Poser, like the one for Genesis Figures, where the Clothing conforms to the Body?

At the time V4 was released there was only the "if there's a matching morph in the clothes it will follow". That's why having morphs in clothes to support the main morph packs was a big selling point.

Later on there was an utility (morphing clothes IIRC) released which enabled you to transfer morphs to clothing like the "transfer active morphs" in DS does.

Poser also introduced a morph brush which helped adjusting clothing if needed.

I've not used recent versions of poser but AFAIK they have a "fitting room" which likely helps with fitting clothes.

Would it work if I re-rigged a Piece of Clothing for Victoria 4 Figures in DAZ Studio? If the Clothing is re-rigged, would it then work just like it does for the Genesis Figures?

You can't rig clothes for V4 with transfer utility as V4 is not weight mapped. The clothes need to use the same kind of rigging as the base figure.

How can I activate this "Transfer Active Morph" function? Do I need to activate it individually for all clothing items as well as the Victoria 4 figure?

From memory, it's available from the context menu when you right click on V4.

You use it on V4 and it affects all items fit to her.

Now I’m a bit curious. I just double-checked and realized that DAZ has actually been around since 2000, I had previously assumed it started a bit later. Does the Original Company, Zygone, still exist?

Yes. They create 3D models for other markets, notably medically accurate models.

Did DAZ also develop the Victoria 1 Figure? That one was released in 1999.

The division of Zygote which later became Daz developed the "Millennium woman" and "Millennium man" figures, which were later renamed Victoria and Michael.

Poser was released back in 1995, did Zygone develop Figures for it right from the start?

I know they developed the base figures for Poser 4, "P4 nude woman" aka "Posette" and "P4 nude man" aka "The Dork". Not sure about earlier versions.

Did the Companies that took over Poser over the years also develop their own Figures for it, or do all the older Poser Figures Originate from Zygone / DAZ? I’m referring more to the early years (the 90s and 2000s), nowadays, there are several Figures designed solely for Posers. But I’d be interested in that early Period.

They did develop their own base figures at least for Poser 5 to 11, and a few others sold independently like Miki or the poser G2 line of figures (not to be confused with Genesis 2).

There is one more Point I’m curious about. Not long ago, I discovered that another Platform, one primarily focused on Poser and currently operated by the Company that owns Poser, has a Daz Sub-Forum. One of the Moderators from here is actually active there. He told me that this Sub-Forum has been active since 2003, now I’m wondering what People discussed back then, at a time when Daz Studio didn't even exist yet.

The first public beta of DS was released in early 2004, and I know there was a limited alpha before that. Maybe they created the subforum when the alpha was launched?

    So many questions!
Poser does use a different rigging system. Zygote does still exist; they make medical 3d models now. Zygote/Daz3d did develop all the models. Poser does have models that it created for itself. People in the past discussed the exact same things they do now; they complained about prices, speculated about new features etc. Direct messaging is a bit like calling people blind; almost nobody likes blind phone calls from strangers about the past and see it as an interruption.  I use the feature for stuff too personal and private for the forum and have had great interactions with creators in particular. I don't know too much about retrofitting technology from Genesis figures to older figures. I gather that some aspects are impossible and that it would be an insane amount of work.  There isn't too much demand for it either. Poser and Daz Studio have grown so far apart that I think of them as two different species.

  • Is it possible for a 3rd party render option for DS4?

It's possble, but if history is any indication, highly unlikely.

The main problem is going to be product support.

Are PA's/content cretors going to develop for two different render engines?

Are Ds users going to even use it?

And, are devs going commit to it?

Prior to Iray coming along, we had acces to Lux Render(which is also open source), via Paolo Ciccone's Reality plug in, and later Luxus by Spheric labs.

AFaik, neither received any support from other PA's, and both had been developmentally dead for years prior to their removal form the daz store in 2021 and 2020 repectively.

Relaity went open source long before it was NLA'd and is up on github.  I've seen a few attemptes to update it, but those have also been dead for years.

Not sure if Luxus still works, but it's NLA and locked to an almost 10 year old version of lux render, iirc.

We currently have accesss to Octane render, and again, PA support is basically non-existent, with 3 whole products that come up when i search the daz store for Octane render.

3delight support had massively declined prior to it's removal, with very few(if any) products having 3delight presets for several years.

Filament(which is open source) is an iffy. it's gotten some PA support, but it's not all that much for something that's been around for ~5 years.

Coming from a user perspective, the only thing that matters is if it's signifiantly faster at rendering on the same hardware than iray(wth indistinguishable results),  that render savings isn't completely lost in the conversion process, and, ti's stupid easy to convert the assets(one click, done).

Short of that, user support is going to be non-existent, except for some of the more hardcore types.

  • Studio 6 Filament on Mac: Some surfaces are textured solid black

    jmucchiello said:

You need to set filament shaders on the surfaces. https://www.daz3d.com/city-office-block has IRAY shaders. In filament mode, it doesn't render them correctly.

I expected lighing issues when Studio translates Iray shaders to Filament. What I didn't expect was the completely black rendering of only certain faces of an object that uses the same material over its entire geometry. A Google search seems to indicate that the only real difference between Iray and Filament is how they react to light. If this is wrong, please let me know.

I'm really just trying to fix the preview; I want my final render to be Iray. A colleague has tested these same models on his Windows box, and none of these solid black surfaces appear when he uses Filament in the Viewport. I suspect this is a Mac-only problem, but as usual, I could be very wrong.

What steps would you take to convert an Iray shader to a Filament shader, please? Thanks!

  • Can someone identify this character from the Daz 3D Youtube ad video?

I don't know, but I do know that having a source is often very useful for identifying assets, so I'm assuming it's this video:

For one of the big clues this provides: the publication date of May 2021 rules out her being a G9 character, so narrows down anyone's search.

Trying to find updates has been very hard. haven't seen anything yet on DIM. and haven't seen any from other sites. So far my only choice is to load everything in Daz 4.24 then save the scene and then open it in Daz 6... this is costing me a lot of time and headach!!!

No plug-ins have been updated yet, when they are I am sure it will be announced by their authors.  don't know that any scripts have had an update as such, though some work anyway.

A couple PAs have said in the Daz PA Commercial Products forum that they've submitted updated assets to Daz. But no one can say how long it will take for them to release.

I hope there's a good reason for removing support for .daz files?  A quick search shows that I have hundreds of them....

The format has been deprecated for years if not decades, so it's not that surprising that they chose not to port the code supporting it in DS6.
Moreover the format has always been problematic, it has changed multiple times between various versions of DS and some older files already didn't open at all even in DS4 (and as the files were binary there's no way to edit them if they don't load).

It's surprising when they don't announce it though.  Or did they announce it somewhere?  Its frustrating that they make it our homework to convert them rather than prompting to convert them when we try opening them.

They did, in the first post of the evergreen thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/727631/daz-studio-2025-6-25-2025-x-evergreen#latest

I'm not trying to be rude, but you can't reasonably expect people to look back to a post from April 2025 to see what breaking changes they need to be prepared for in Jun of 2026, or much less even know that evergreen is or how it relates to them.

I definitely agree that they should have communicated more clearly about the fact that there is important information in this thread when they launched the general release. There should probably be a link to it on the new Daz Studio 6 page, for example.

Thank you Leana.  I hope you have a good evening.
