Carrara and Windows 11

Carrara is working without error. Yay.
That is better news.
Carrara and Windows 11According to my update history, my most recent update was on October 15th. But I know there have been updates more recent than that. So it is a mystery to me what is going on with Windows 11. At least Carrara is loading without the error now.
Carrara and Windows 11Good news.
There was another Windows update (small one), which I assume was a patch of some sort. Without me doing anything for Carrara or Python-related files, I am no longer getting the errors. I guess they figured out they made a mistake and fixed it. Carrara is Carrara-ing again. Yay.
Thank you, Steve K, Wendy, and @3Deedlin for checking in on me.
EDIT - now I am not so sure an update fixed it. I am not getting the error, so it appears to be fixed, but the Windows 25H2 is appearing again as if it hasn't been updated. So I don't know. Carrara is working without error. Yay.

My carrara was getting along fine with Windows 11 until the most recent updates. A security feature that blocks add-ons and sub-routines is wreaking havoc on a variety of programs that I have, including Carrara 8.5 Pro. The Windows blocks seem random, but who knows. Here is the most recent obstruction when launching Carrara. Argh. Repeat, Carrara was working fine until recent Windows updates, and these issues are not only Carrara issues.
EDIT - in other programs, also getting error warning for Windows blocking python routines associated with add ons. Even blocked an attempt to update.
That's really bad news.
Let's talk about creating HDRIs...Horo said:
I made around 300 HDRIs, Angular Map projection and Spherical projection. True photography based with a Nikon DX50 (DSLR) and later D600 (SLR) with fisheye lenses 8 - 16 mm and rectlinear lenses 35 - 50 mm; daylight, night skies and indoors. I also created true HDRIs from renders by rendering with different light settings, and of course, I also made artificial HDRIs by cheating.
To change the projection, assemble the differently exposed images to an HDRI and stitch them to a panorama, I use(d): HDRShop (not available anymore), Picturenaut, Pano2VR and PTGui.If you are interested in creating HDRI panoramas, I have some information about the topic on my website (horo.ch). Though most of PDFs are Bryce based, most of it is valid also for other programs like Daz Studio, Carrara, Vue, etc.
Bryce & 3D CG Documents > Mine (PDF) > IBL-HDRI
There are also a few free HDRIs.
Raytracing > IBL and HDRI > Resources > HR-HDRI (S)Thanks for sharing the link. My main software is Blender, but HDRIs are great as background landscape and Bryce as well as Vue good programs to create such HDRIs.
Valuable information to get an efficient workflow.Off Topic Thread #2when I modify lighting and backgrounds in this particular scene (the Tea Garden)
I get this weird issue where stuff is there but doesn't render
yes the walls, hedge etc are in the assembly room
and no, they don't render there either
nothing was changed except the background trees deleted and sky settings and lighting replaced
it's happens often on this scene and I have no idea why
not deleting the background trees helps
yes, even sadder lighting as trying to solve the issue
▲ this is 2 minutes an image BTW which is crazy after spending 40 hours rendering the same one with the included lighting
there must be a compromise somewhere
the 40 hour one ▲
soft shadows 3 mins a frame is OK ▲
yes they don't have backgrounds as animated maps or clouds is possibly a cause I wanted to eliminate, will add the matching slightly cloudy carrara sky in post
Carrara and Windows 11** EDIT - UPDATE - Issue fixed as per post a few rows down. **

Importing from DAZ to Blender....how ????

Honestly, I recommend using Diffeomorphic. There are a lot of tutorials on Youtube.
I will check it out, DAZ's lack of support for their own software is irritating.
+1000 I will never understand why this is.
Honestly, I do not understand Daz politics for quite a while now. It seems that they tried to open up for other software with their bridges, but then they seemed to return to the Daz Studio only business. If they want to stay as content provider they have to open up to other software. Especially software that is used in the semi professional area.
In the past they aquired Carrara and Bryce, but didn't invest into the further development of these tools. They are still here, but used by a smaller community and no new native content is released.
I have a huge library of Daz content and I'm so thankfull that a bridge like Diffeomorphic, but also Sagan exists. I would love to be able to convert Daz content without studio to Blender, but this may be a topic for the future. It's mainly about rigs and materials.

Daz did develop Bryce (two major versions), Hexagon (only a dot release but they had to finish up 2 after purchase) and Carrara (two or three major versions, I think).
Thanks for the info. Somehow I missed that.
I used Bryce in the past to create HDRI backgrounds and Carrara for Daz content with V4.2, but somehow the features didn't evolve as much as I expected.
The same applies to Vue, which I used as well in the past. Daz on the other hand did develop further significantly.Carrara and Windows 11staying not straying

Windows 10 like Carrara is not broken, why mess with things
Not ruling out a new PC one day and latest OS but I wasn't even affected by the AWS outage because I don't web browse much, at least on PC, have an iPad for that and a smart TV for YouTube, which shows me heaps of ads
I only dislike the timing of them sometimes, with all the Ai you would think they wouldn't cut off commentry mid sentence.Going to need a new PC, what specs?Silver Dolphin said:
If you want to save some money just use Blender. I own 2x Nvidia 3090's and I use one on my Blender machine and one on my local AI machine. If you don't want to migrate to Win11 when support for W10 goes away ZorinOS is a nice linux distro that looks and feels like windows. You can install Daz studio on this but it is a little fiddly. I would just recommend running Blender.
OK, thanks. A long time favorite vendor of great landscape scenes for VUE switched over to Blender some time back. I have tried Blender and just can't get my head around it. I finally have gotten serious about learning Daz Studio and am finding it more friendly than I originally thought. I am a long time animator using Carrara and will continue to be, using DS iRay renders as backgorunds. An example is at 1:56 in this short animation:

Any experience with using Terragen and Daz Studio?LOL a bit late for me to reply
but yes, Octane render 4 Carrara exports EXR and Spherical renders that are HDRi
however my card 2080Ti is the last one supported for OR4 which I bought outright
not sure if the now subscription model supports anything later or if the Carrara plugin even in development
on the otherhand
Latiicus Imagery is using Terragen a lot on Facebook I see
there is also Gaia
...and of course Vue for free!!
Carrara does fine for me
Modo 3D discontinued, free to download (ten year offline license)I loved Lightwave back in the day. Now, I'm curious to see. But Carrara does so much and Blender has come so far; and both so much more affordable.

Thank you for the Modo links. Looks interesting! We're not better off when a tool like this or Vue goes away.
True. I recall buying Lightwave long ago because they offered a package deal including VUE. I never got any good at Lightwave, preferring Carrara (I am not a modeler, just an animator), but I still love VUE.
