  • [Released] Character Converter from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 8 Female(Now Conv JCMs) [Commercial]
This is exciting. And you can add me to the list pf people who would be interested in conversion of males and earlier generations. I had that texture transfer tool for my V4 skins and some other geograph thing from here. They are hard for me to use. This looks like it should work easier for someone like me. I've used a lot of your converters for other things so if this works as well/easy as those I would def be interested in other generations. I used V4 before. I only dabbled in Genesis until G3. I love G8 more than I thought I would. This item will solve a problem I had last night when the chatacter I wanted to use was G3 but I needed G8. Plus, this will help me keep using the same face morph for my OC from G3 on G8.

I think it is easy to use, but others should chime in.

Any conversion I make for earlier generations will most likely NOT include texture conversion, so seam problems, etc will still be there.

I have a couple of questions:. 1) does this make smart content/content library entries for the converted characters or just morph dials and 2) what is the difference between this one and the one that Zevo is about to release?

  • [Released] Character Converter from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 8 Female(Now Conv JCMs) [Commercial]

First I'll say that I am very tempted to buy this. Having said that, I do notice that the disclaimer which is stated in the OP of this thread does not appear in the promotional blurb:

The Character Converter script cannot properly convert all Genesis 3 characters.  Characters with extreme morphs may have problems, especially around the eyes.  The Character converter script does not copy joint corrective morphs (JCMs) or morph corrective morphs (MCMs) properly, which can cause problems with some poses for your converted characters.  Default materials copied to your new Genesis 8 characters may have ugly seams and/or misaligned features due to the different UV layout.

Moreover, though we are encouraged to read the ReadMe, no link to that ReadMe is present on the promo page (unless I missed it, which is entirely possible).

One question I have which has probably been answerd in this thread but I haven't read all the way through it ... does this allow for the natural fitting of clothing and hair from G3F to a converted G8F?

As for the lack of JCMs/MCMs, I have been through all of my G3 poses and converted them to G8 (there are various scripts and products to do this) so I'm guessing that will, to some degree, alleviate the problem for poses? Or does this product somehow change the basic structure of the G8F figure so as to make posing unreliable?

If you click the readme link on the product page (http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/62491/start), you should see this under additional details:

The Character Converter script cannot properly convert all Genesis 3 Female characters. Characters with extreme morphs may have problems, especially around the eyes. The Character converter script does not copy joint corrective morphs (JCMs) or morph corrective morphs (MCMs) properly, which can cause problems with some poses for your converted characters. Multi-part characters (e.g., a character that loads a figure and separate horns) cannot be converted. Material presets are also not converted. Default materials copied to your new Genesis 8 characters may have ugly seams and/or misaligned features due to the different UV layout. Items without metadata can be converted but will not show up in Smart Content. They may also need to be converted using a Force Convert Item(s) button.

The converted characters use Genesis *8* clothing, whether native or converted.  To use Genesis 3 Female clothing without using Autofit, you would need to buy my https://www.daz3d.com/clothing-converter-from-genesis-3-female-to-genesis-8-female

The same goes for poses, whether they are native or converted, will not make a difference in how the converted characters handle them.  It is the extremeness of the poses and of the character which will cause problems without JCMs.

Thanks for the answer. I wasn't looking at the product page, I was looking at the store promotion page. The answer about G3F clothing was as expected but I thought I'd check anyway. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for this.

Ayana was one of the first characters I ever picked up, before I really understood differences between generations or had any idea how heavily I'd end up investing in G8-specific tools and morphs. She's also one of my absolute favorites, and I've been wishing I could transfer her to G8 somehow for a long time. I even attempted it myself--trying the morph transfer workarounds, getting as close as I could by fine-tuning morphs on a G8 base--but it never quite worked right.

With this I finally have her on G8, and from my testing so far she works perfectly. Here she is with Auto Shape Enhancer applied and using the eye anatomy from Julienne.

Ayana for Genesis 3 Female converted to Genesis 8.

When I get my hands on the male version I'm going to dive through the G3 back catalog like a raccoon. There are so many characters I love but couldn't justify picking up because I just don't have the level of flexibility with G3 that I do with G8.

You are very welcome!  I am glad you are liking it! smiley  And thank you so much for sharing with others.

Bought it at once, but would like to know first, how to avoid duplicate formulas errors.

I do not want to sell characters yet, so I was thinking about creating separate directory for converted characters

and use fictional names for Vendor Names, to keep such characters separate.

    Any more ideas?

The converter will not create a duplicate of an existing morph.  If will either not write it or overwrite it depending on the options.

Edit: I should mention the Overwrite option can be much slower.  The script deletes the old morph before writing the new one and DS takes quite awhile to do that.  It is better to delete the old morph outside of DS so the script doesn't have to do it inside of DS.

  • The new Centaur 'n stuff thread - reloaded
This pic turned out quite nicely, I think. I downloaded the Hivewire Horse again, found the iray shaders and converted the bump map to a normal map. About the foal: Actually I purchased the Kids4 years ago. But I do not have the foal morph, So I cannot tell if it will work with the current morph. But as the shape, especially of the neck area, is quite different, it might be easier to start from scratch.

This is about the first time we've seen another Aesir, so there he is. A clone like Boyd. Only much older. Probably from the 60's or 70's.

    surprise What century's 60s or 70s?

Earth has been aware of aliens since the 40's. Not all aliens are hostile, although most don't like homo sapiens. I'm afraid we are an invasive species in the rest of the galaxy. Fortunately for them, Earth is rather remote, so they haven't bothered with us much, until now. There are however, other worlds with humans on them.  Aliens have been taking human slaves and such from earth for hundreds of thousands of years and those humans have escpaed, and well, look what happened to the Earthworm in america. They are everywhere, and people think they are indigenous.

During the 1940's Americans discovered the existence of aliens after a crash landing. Since then we've taken and adapted the alien tech to form the basis for cloning, body replication, and space flight.

Cloning, and brain transfer, is entirely an alien technique which we have stolen and adapted, since thats what humans do.

So Boyd's and Owen's story is taking place in the sorta-kinda-vaguely present day (as in 2019), but, say a couple steps to the left or some such?

  • Attention Published Artists that support Genesis 8

OK, your character, Michael, and G8M are a must to be supported in included clothing. Anything else regarding the base male full body morphs and supporting figures I'd think should be based on the style of the character you have in mind. That said, if the Daz team thinks more stuff should be included, I'd ask them for specifics, or drop the clothing part entirely. You may think of it as a bonus freebie, but customers sometimes think of it as paying for things they cannot use, or don't want. I'd think a character morph, skin texture, and assorted body hair would be robust enough on its own.

Edit: Then when your character gets accepted, you can start a commercial thread and link to the bonus freebies hosted at sharecg or wherever and get thankful replies.

Well part of my reasoning is that the character itself, while it's my baby, is a morph and skin with eyebrows and some scruff.  I was beefing up the pack with some clothing items and a beard, mustache and pubic hair props (all three are basic, meaning no morphs and would only work with G8M and Gino, the rest would rely on auto follow / auto conform) but even with the beta team saying all was well I was turned down because I was, in my own mind, thinking I'm basically including this stuff in the pack as freebies in it's way, maybe uping the pack by a couple of dollars, but was told NO, the clothing items have to have expected morphs included.  So I backed away and started rethinking things so maybe I WILL put them up as separate packs since I'm going to be including needed morphs.  So with that said I'm doing a trainer baggy shorts and including my Trainer Shoes refitted to G8M that I made for Dawn from Hivewire a good while ago.  Who knows, Gino might be released SOMEDAY!   I'm in no hurry.  Hell I might even miss the boat and G89 will have hit by the time this is all said and done.  LMAO

Even if Gino never gets sold in the Daz store, you will have learned a heck fo a lot that you can put ot use later.

  • July, 2019 - Daz 3D New User Challenge - Portrait Rendering

My file for the first portrait became corrupt somehow, so I can't make any further revisions to it. The previous upload will have to be my final for that version. Also, been having a lot of trouble uploading pictures to this thread for some reason but after several days it's working.

Here is the final for my second image of the custom-designed character I made, Alexa. (The first image looked too big, so I added a 2nd here).

@punky thanks again for everything... took everything you said into consideration and this is the best version of my second image.

Just out of curiousity to the experts here, are we allowed to do some of our character customization sculpting/morphing in Zbrush or should we stick to morphing wiithin Daz. Because it seems most of these stock characters from the vendors now are being sculpted in Zbrush anyways, was wondering if it's within the rules to further custom sculpt/morph them with that program and refine textures with photoshop. I see everyone using photoshop for post-work, was just checking if it's also ok for "pre-work" like skin texturing. PS and ZBrush are still very new to me, and i'm still new with Daz but I was still just curious. Of course would still be using daz for any posing/hair/clothing/scene building/lighting/shaders and rendering.

You are free to use whatever 3D program you like.  The majority use DAZ Studio but if you wish to use a different program that is allowed and encouraged.

I do not see any reason you cannot use zbrush to customize your character(s).

Even though the rules state a 2 image limit we do have some flexibility there within reason.

  • dForce, dWeight and dWardrobe. Chronicles of...

    It's an infinite loop!!

    LOL

How do I tell an upper-garment to react to an under-garment? Like a vest & jacket over a shirt & tie? And how do I freeze something once I get it in place?

The easy answer first: Once you're happy with a simulation, select the object and open the Parameters tab. In the left column, select Simulation and the options for Simulations will be isolated. You'll see the option to Freeze Simulation in the right column. Just click on the toggle to turn that option On.

Be aware, that clicking the "Clear" button will remove the simulation from item(s) with Freeze Simulation On, but because the option is enabled, the item(s) won't drape again. You'll have to set that option to Off to drape again. there is a Clear dForce Simulation from Selected Item(s) option. You'll find it with the other dForce menu items. Those can be found in several places, but I usually click on the Scene menu, and select Edit > Geometry > Clear dForce Simulation from Selected Item(s).

    The not so easy answer:

    • With simple things, you can sometimes get away with setting Collision Offset at different values for the items; An offset of .20 for the shirt and .30 for the vest, for example.
    • Sometimes it works best if you've applied the Smoothing modifier and set the Collision item for the upper item to the lower item, instead of the figure.
    • Sometimes it works best to drape each item separately, starting with the lowest item first, freezing the items as you go.
    • Sometimes it only works if you create a morph of the drape underneath, use the Timeline, and dial the morph from 0 to 100% during the morph.
    • And sometimes, the best thing you can do is find a different outfit.

I am referring to using dForce on clothing that was created before we had dForce,

Thank you for one half of my puzzle!   I suspect it's the more important half, since I can usually beat even recalcitrant textures into shape, if motivated. :-)
