[Released] Character Converter from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 8 Female(Now Conv JCMs) [Commercial]
And here's a quick and dirty render I did of Genesis 8 Brenna. No issues with the body transfer, as far as I can tell. :)
Exploring a possible user relater problem (aka URP) with GenX, so not quite ready to blame others for that, yet.
Btw. Brenna's pose here is also converted from G3...
[Released] Character Converter from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 8 Female(Now Conv JCMs) [Commercial]Looking over the product release page, I'm confused about the overwriting of morphs. Is it the Gen8 morph that will be overwritten? Wouldn't the Gen8 morph, if it already exists, be needed for a Gen8 character? What if you don't overwrite existing morphs -- will that create problems?
Is Genesis 8 really that good?Humm.... As others have already noted, I don't see any duck faces on the G8 characters I have. So you may have an unruly morph that is being loaded with your G8F. It would no doubt help if you could give us an image with a character (un-modified to remove the duck face) that you find particularly bad, then we could compare to see if it looks like our default version of the same character.
Personally, I like G8F better that G3F, mainly due to the HD expressions. But most of the DO official G8F characters I haven't liked that much. If I wanted older characters I'd be quite happy with them, but I have very little use for them in my renders. However, there are some PA's that have made, IMHO, some outstanding G8 charscters that I'm quite happy with and are better in many respects to most G3 characters.
[Released] Character Converter from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 8 Female(Now Conv JCMs) [Commercial]Brenna genesis 3 to Brenna genesis 8 was quite successful, as you can see. (original right, genesis 8 left. You can really only tell from the funky eyes on genesis 8, as I didn't update those, and a slightly open mouth on the gen 3). Perfect, and looking forward to bringing over my g3 ladies.
OTOH, my Frankenstein's bride was... less so. Everything seemed to work fine (nothing interesting in the log), even if the conversion took 4 times longer than with Brenna. The body result is just as off ("original", ie. character using both a single dial gen x created morph and a bunch of genesis 3 dials to be as close to the original as possible on left, conversion on right).
[Released] Character Converter from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 8 Female(Now Conv JCMs) [Commercial]Hello,
I tried but found this issue with the materials not converting properly.
The figure is a custom Genesis 3 with Kalea 7 skins.
This is a known limitation. The script copies the materials from G3 to G8 but does not convert them or change the UV mapping, which can cause seams such as here. A product such as https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-character-uvs-for-genesis-8-female should help (it specifically mentions Kalea)
Thank you.
Problem is that most characters (custom) I use have skins from G3 characters that aren't in that content list. It's for all the "Name" 7 characters only and not for Abby https://www.daz3d.com/abby-for-genesis-3-female (just an example).
Do you know any other content that could help me solve the UV maps issue?
You can convert the maps from the custom UV to G3F using Map Transfer (right click on the Surfaces tab inside Daz Studio). This is a lot more work than a one click solution like with this script, but at least you only have to do it once for each custom UV you own. After that just use the new textures instead that have the G3F UV. Note this only handles the texture issues, you still need this script to transfer the morphs.
How to get this morph pack to work in Daz?Have you tried applying the Character morph to M4 in Poser and opening that poser scene in Daz studio??
[Released] Character Converter from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 8 Female(Now Conv JCMs) [Commercial]I have a problem now that all basic Gen3 models will load with a morph ( genx created). Does anybody know why this is happening?
This apparently happens when the morph in question has not been saved properly. You will need to remove it from all the characters manually to stop it happening.

How to get this morph pack to work in Daz?https://www.sharecg.com/v/78336/related/11/Poser/Gamorrean-Guard-Star-Wars
I've tried to get this to work in Daz before, and it never does, it keeps giving me errors. Can anyone help me out with this? THanks.
Is Genesis 8 really that good?Genesis 8 has better facial tech for better expressions.
To me the skin shader settngs on the G3 platform was more realistic out of the box than most of the G8. Being as I can change it it's not really an issue for me. When G8 was realeased a lot of people noticed the difference and kept harping on about how G8 skin textures had a plastic look to them.
Agree on the skin but I find most G8 expressions to be further into the uncanny valley than their G3 equivalents. Especially the smiles, which often come across as a bit creepy and more like something you'd see on the Joker than in real life. Most of the other "improvements" are makerting hype or things that could have been implemented in G3 just as easily... it IS the same mesh and UV set, after all.
Other than that... I've found Genesis 3 to be much more powerful in terms of figure creation simply because of the lack of G8 support in GenX2, which allows transfer of morphs from as far back as Victoria 3, whereas with G8 one has to bump from the original shape to G3 and then to G8 using a more convoluted process. This may finally be changing as there are now several PAs producing G3 to G8 transfer systems, with Zev0's promising both male and female G3 to G8 conversion with the much needed JCM transfer, but untiil we have direct transfer to all the old school figures, G8 will still be stuck with the copy of a copy syndrome.
XTransfer Module 1- Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 Morph Converter (Commercial)Another character transfer product to look forward to. Oh boy. I do love having choices, though. And the ability to transfer gen8 to gen3 is attractive. I have more gen3 resources such as clothing converters to save on buying new wearable assets, so i would rather transfer back to 3 than up to 8. Thank you.[Released] Character Converter from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 8 Female(Now Conv JCMs) [Commercial]I think the error "no Character Files detected" comes when the character is only as "Morph" Files and not the direct loading Character
[Released] Character Converter from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 8 Female(Now Conv JCMs) [Commercial]I'll be picking this up, but is it safe to assume that it will not transfer HD morphs if a character is using them?
Morphs from G3 to G8He's stated he's unlikely to ever develop a product out of it and that's why he's open sourced it.
I've tried it and it hung on a transfer of about 10 G3M products to G8M. I've not looked into why it hung as it's not an important thing to me only a convenience. The prior product he made one year prior handled the same work without a bug.
It's a nice UI he's created for it but it would probably be a better UI by parsing individual products and offering those as the choice to transfer instead of all the individual components of those product files with an option to transfer all associated member files of the product. Also. it would probably be better and avoid the need for searching for complex bugs if once a product was chosen to transfer all the other products were greyed out and not available for transfer - so one product at a time.

- With the caveat that I have only glanced at his post and without a released product cannot even test it, I *think* that his will be more general, concentrating on morphs, and handling hooking the JCMs back up is impressive (though in practice, for normal characters I haven't missed the loss of the custom JCMs). Mine is more character oriented and targeted for ease of use. Select the character and convert. CC converts the morphs, creates the controller property, and creates a new character with copied icons and categories (and transfers the default materials, which could be good or bad
). IMO, I think in practice BOTH will be good to have. Mine for doing 80% of the characters, and his for the 20% that are the problem childs as well as transferring non-character oriented morphs
.
Awesome, that's what I needed to know, thanks! I will definitely be picking this up today.Great to hear! I am glad I could answer your questions.
Hylas' cornerToday in 'I sometimes just don't get DAZ': The above render was interrupted at 5%. Yes, I did a few spot renders - but not that many! - and yes, you can find fireflies if you look for them. But overall it's pretty good for a 5% render, no? No idea how the 100% version would look like...
Fitting complicated M4 clothes to G8 is always a hassle, but I'm quite happy with how this turned out. Telling a proper story with this character will require some lateral thinking and tricky posing though, since the poor dude can't move his head at all without clipping through his armour and his arm movements are severely limited as well.

You almost certainly have an additional morph loading that either saved over the default Genesis 8 or had an error with the specific file for that morph.
Load the base Genesis 8 Female, then look through the loaded morph list. Click the Figure, then Parameters>Actor>Head. Look for anything at 100% that isn't Genesis 8 base.
