  • Help, I need a face from one m4 to another m4, how do?

I don't know specifics of your morph but usually the easiest way is to:
    1. Make sure that you Michael 4 on lowest resolution. Zero it.
    2. Dial your morphs to get that custom face you want.
    3. Export as Wavefront obj. The scale for export and import should be consistent (I usually use Hexagon 1 unit = 1 cm, 100%), Ignore invisible nodes checked, Export with Existing groups checked, everything else can be unchecked.
    4. After that load your fresh M4, zero it and use Morph Loader Pro or Morph Loader Advanced to import that obj to make a morph.

Saving that kind of morph might be tricky: it supposed to save it with a scene but you might end up loading the obj-as-morph every time you need that custom morph.

There is a way to make morph injectable so you'd be able to inject it into any kind of M4 without going through export/import but I only know DS route and I'm not sure that scripts that worked for this purpose in DS 3 are still working or available for DS 4.6.

I am trying to use the DSON Importer for Poser. I have it installed and can load in the Genesis figure without error but it is invisible. How do I get the texture to load too?

Did you install both "Genesis Starter Essentials" and "Genesis Starter Essentials PoserCF" to a writable content folder known to Poser?

Hi, excuse my English this is not my first language. In Poser 2014, I'm not sure if I installed correctly, so I will tell you what I did: I took these files:
    IM00016280-03_Genesis2MaleStarterEssentials.zip
    IM00016280-04_Genesis2MaleStarterEssentialsPoserCF
    IM00016280-01_Genesis2FemaleStarterEssentials.zip
    IM00016280-02_Genesis2FemaleStarterEssentialsPoserCF.zip
    IM00014812-02_GenesisStarterEssentialsPoserCF.zip
    IM00014812-01_GenesisStarterEssentials.zip
The poserCF files are from my product library here: http://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files/ .
The other files are from the dowload path of Install Manager.
I Installed these zip files by Poser Content tab and I clicked on the Install From Zip Archive button.

The DSON Importer for Poser is installed correctly, because I was able to load all the Gen5 and Gen6 figures in Poser.

I also installed V4 in Poser with this file: ps_pe069_Victoria4.exe that I downloaded a few month ago from my product library here: http://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files/ . That have an installer that let me choose the path of Poser and It's installed correctly because I can load V4 in poser.

Now I have a lot of content bought from DAZ that are DSON importer compatible.
I have 38 Gigs of DAZ content. Do I have to reinstall All the DSON importer compatible content in Poser ?

I have those bundles : Victoria 6 Pro Bundle, Victoria 5, Michael 5 Pro Bundle Michael 4 Pro Bundle Stephanie 4 Pro Bundle Fantasy Starter Bundle Aiko 4 Pro Bundle V5, and more...

I bought morphs props lights for DAZ how can I install all these things in Poser ?

In Poser I added a library for DAZ Content this is the path: D:\utils\dazcontent\Runtime\librairies\Character.

This is the path of my content library for DAZ Studio 4.6

Does it help to do something in Poser ? If so can I add an other path?

In the Install manager for DAZ Studio Since I added this path: D:\utils\Poser Pro 2014 Content\Poser Pro 2014 Content, (this is the path of my Poser 2014 Content) in the settings Applications tab, there are new files (that end by PS, I know it's for Poser) in the ready to download Products . Is there a way that I install these PS file directly from IM in poser because I already installed the non PS files in DAZ .
In the future if I buy some DSON importer compatible content will it install automaticaly in Poser by the Install Manager for DAZ . And if so how?

    Thank you.

They're not free, they are for sale. DAZ never offers gens as freebies. There are some free gens for M4 offered on other sites (which I'm not allowed to link on the forum).

They're only sold with the Pro bundles of Genesis 1 (and 2 Male). Angus is not a "figure" but a character set. The gens for Michael 4 are sold with the M4 Morphs++.

I tried installing with DIM once. Once was enough - I don't use Smartcontent and the foldernames are tooooo often simply not the name of the product in the store.
So, if I only download with DIM and move the zips, it forgets it has downloaded them and offers them as downloads again.
    sigh

I don't use Smart Content either, but I do use DIM. What I do is to let DIM install to Public Documents\My Daz3d Library (where I keep absolutely nothing at all), go in and tinker and rename to my heart's content, then move to the active directory. DIM remembers that something has been downloaded and installed, and doesn't offer it to me again, and I get things rearranged the way I want.

I do, just for the heck of it, do database maintenance once every couple weeks or so, cleaning out orphaned items and directories and scanning for new files. I figure that way, the database will be current-ish if I ever need it for anything. And, if nothing else, the CMS affects or controls Autofit, Transfer Utility and Fit To, as well as Smart Content, so it's good to let things be somewhere near what they're supposed to be.

  • Hairs for genesis.

    Hi TaniaGomes.Art!

Welcome to the DS forums :) You are not alone in realizing how very much there is to learn about this particular field of art - I have been here nearly 2 years and am still learning - but it sure is an enjoyable way to spend my time!

As to the hair for Victoria 4 or Michael 4 fitting Genesis/ Genesis 2 figures - it may be more down to which hair you are interested in... the results don't seem to be consistent in ALL hair models, which is probably why no one is saying yes, they will fit, or no they won't. It can depend on the model.

Sometimes, if you load Genesis or Genesis 2 and then load the hair, Daz Studio will autofit the hair in the same way it autofits clothing made for V4/M4 to Genesis. If the results of this don't work for you, you can try having your Genesis/Genesis 2 in the zero position, (where it first loads when you add it to the scene) and make sure nothing is selected, then try loading the hair. If your Genesis is close to V4/M4 in size, the hair SHOULD appear in the proper place on the figure, and you can then right click on the hair in your scene and choose to parent it in place, and parent to your Genesis' head. If it's not the correct size or place, you can check to see if the hair has fitting morphs for a character close to where your Genesis is. (example, K4 fit on the hair).

You can also load the hair into your scene and attempt to fit it manually by scaling the size and moving it into place, before parenting to your figure.

(Alot of Hair models offered for sale at other places are designed for V4/M4, but some have fit morphs in them for Genesis so be sure to check on that by reading the description.)

I hope this was somewhat helpful to you, and let me know if there are any hair models you are particularly interested in - if I have them I would be happy to check for you. Warmest Regards, -Cathy

  • Just a few questions from a total newbie....

    1. They are additional shapes (and textures). You don't need them.
    2. AutoFit depends on "clones", sahpes for the current figure that match an older figure. By default the previous generation is supported - Michael 4, Victoria 4 and Kids 4 fro Genesis, Genesis (and the other Genesis 2 sex) for Genesis 2 - but there are clones for the third generation figures for Genesis and for the fourth generation for Genesis 2 in the store.
    3. This is the big one, but you will also find some DAZ Studio freebies at Renderosity - and many Poser freebies there and at RDNA can be used in DS.
    4. DAZ has a YouTube channel with a lot of content.
    5. 30% off DAZ products, and a monthly coupon for $6 towards DAZ Products - that is, full store products (not $1.99 or $2.99 items) that list DAZ 3D as the vendor; access to the catalogue of $1.99 and $2.99 items; monthly freebie for PC members only, and the weekly freebie without having to buy another product at the same time; occasional special promotions; access to the Members Only forum, with two regular contests that have small prizes.

Well, I'm confused as usual. Loaded Michael 4. There's a mapless option, which turns him mapless of course. Just a gray. Now what is the difference in mapless.ds and mapless.mc6.....I don't know what mc6 IS. There is also mapless pz2 Pz is poser, what's with the 2 designation?

And dont they have skin maps without the stupid briefs? (Wondered about that with Victoria 4)
I'm not good with files, and this is getting confusing. I have learned to click on cr2's but that's just hit or miss. You folks are lucky to see anything from me, lol.

I'll do Ulrich and use the light set I just used for the toon. I need to test it anyway (on other characters.) Back in awhile, the shading rate will be .20 when I get it set up so don't know how long will take.

EDIT- for pete's sake, although my michael 4 is installed per DIM, it's not showing up. In Products, its in the list, nothing happens when I click on it, no products. Shows installed on the DIM. Am having to uninstall, etc- so give me some time to get this stupid thing working in the studio. Not in Smart Content either, or the Content Library. GRRRRRR.

Caleb for M4 and Genesis M5
    http://www.daz3d.com/caleb-for-m4-and-genesis-m5
    By Phoenix1966

    Other items used:

Figures in images #1 and #2 use default shader supplied with Caleb character whereas figures in #3-#5 use tweaked AoA SSS and Subsurface Toolbox by DimensionTheory; also check out laticis' page on deviantart, I've used his AoA SSS Preset for Victoria 6 as a starting point for Caleb's skin, the preset really helped since I find working with shaders rather difficult and laticis is a very talented artist. What I came up with is not perfect but it works for me.
Ligts: All images use a combination of Advanced Ambient Light by Age of Armour and standard DS distant lights (except for #6 which uses one AAL with light radius set to 0). Images #1-#4 additionally use a Tube Light Emitter Preset from Shadow Play DAZ Studio Lights by ForbiddenWhispers (a PC item - it's a great light set which can help you better understand DS lights and create your own light rigs)
Mesh: Images #1 and #2 use genesis, #3-#5 use genesis 2 male as base.
All images were rendered in DAZ Studio 4.6 Pro using 3Delight.

    Image #1 (no postwork):
Skin: Caleb for M4 and Genesis M5 - scruff and "painted hair" preset

    Review:

Caleb is a young male character by Phoenix1966. I bought it because I am always on lookout for freckled character textures. This one has very lovely freckles, pale skin, ginger coloured eyebrows and painted hair ad scruff which makes it ideal for the characters of nordic descent.
He comes with character presets for both M4 and Genesis, short hair morph and elf ears morph. There is a base texture, Tattoos Preset and Genitals Preset. It also contains presets for "painted hair" and scruff. Apparently there is no preset that enables one to use Hair Preset and Tattoos Preset both at the same time. There are also 6 realistic eye colours and two reflections to choose from as well as no-reflection preset (I really like it when vendors include those, makes it easier to get rid of the painted reflection maps if they are undesirable). I tried applying the included 5 mirrored poses for M4 to G2M and Genesis but unfortunately for some reason they turned out looking rather awkward.

Caleb uses M4 UV's so he can easily be used on G2M (if one has Michael 4 for Genesis 2 Male by Slosh). Recently I've been searching for skins that would look convincing on children. I consider Caleb to be one of them. It has no-face-hair option and no body hair. The skin is smooth enough to look good on children, however it has very subtle wrinkles on the forehead which might look strange on a child. They could either be covered by hair or, if one has skill, smoothed out in a graphics software. I also removed displacement when using it on a child (it adds veins).

One thing I do not like about this texture set is that it has a "painted" shadow under the chin (go to the next page to see how it looks in a render) I really hate it when vendors leave (or intentionally add) shadows onto skin textures. They usually look artificial and will look wrong if used with lights that would not cause that area to be shaded. In close-ups it looks as if the skin is dirty in that place, the texture is also very stretched there. Despite this I would still recommend this character. In other areas the skin is of very good quality, though the shader supplied makes it look slightly dated and unrealistic if not tweaked. The product description says that it comes with Standard, EHSS and SSS Versions but I think that in DS only the Standard one is available (at least I couldn't find any other presets - please correct me if I'm wrong). In the images where I used it on G2M I applied AoA SSS to it, it's far from perfect but still I like its look much more than the default one.
One other problem I encountered was when I tried to load the tattoo preset for torso and arm. It did not apply the correct texture to the neck and I had to manually change the map in the diffuse channel. I also noticed that it is not possible to apply tattoo and painted hair texture at the same time, there is no map for it (I suspect that it was unintentionally omitted by the vendor). The issue is only visible on the back of the head where the hair ends in a sharp edge where it meets the neck portion of the tattoo preset, so it shouldn't be a problem if you want a frontal render.

Overall I quite enjoyed working with this character and despite small aforementioned issues, I consider it well worth purchasing and look forward to buying more middle-aged and old characters from this vendor. His creations certainly look very unique and different, also more like ordinary people which is what I like about them. I would love to see her create a character for Genesis 2.

  • Michael 4 Morphs not working on DAZ Pro 4.6 (latest version)

    Thanks guys!

Apparently the download manager did something funny with it. I uninstalled it and downloaded it again and now it's working fine.

Now, what I need to know if it is possible to save a Michael 4 characters once the morphs had been used on the base figure.

I tried to do this using the Save as Character preset and it gives an error. Picture is attached, and you will also see how different my dash is from yours. Is there a way to save Michael 4 new characters? I need to come back to the same figures for my projects and it'll be really tedious if I must write down every single thing that I do with the morphs to be able to replicate it afterwards.

By the way, I haven't seen anything regarding height for Michael 4. Is it possible to change his height at all?

    Looking forward to your comments.

  • Nube Question on Mesh Manipulation

    sarifos said:
OK, I am really new. I know that so please be kind.

I am trying to take a shirt that fits (conforming) to Michael 4 - I just want to cut the top of it and bend it like an open polo. I have Anim8or - Cinema4D and (Bluck) Blender. This seems like a simple task but I have found it to be very difficult. I've been trying to use Anim8or. I export my OBJ file and make the cut (Thanks for showing the button with scissors) but then all I get is crazy extrusion options. I just want to select the area and bend it back. If anyone knows of a clear way of doing this and can take the time to tell me, I would be very grateful. I'm not some big time animator - my interests lie in single frame renders. I just want to cut a mesh and bend a section of it simply.

DAZ Studio, Poser, or another app?

The shirt conforms to M4 but do you want to use it on M4? To you want it to remain a conformer or not?

DAZ sells dynamic clothing in the store designed for use with DS and if you go the Optitex site, there are free items there as well. One thing to be aware of with dynamics for DS, they are still pretty much figure specific.

If you are using Poser, you have several options available. You can find a conformer that fits the style you are looking for. Chances are it may even be made for M4 (if that's the figure you are using). If not, you can turn it into a prop (there are free python scripts to do this as well as Poser's own tools for this). You can then take it into the cloth room and run sims to your heart's content.

Poser also has python plugins for creating clothing inside Poser by PhilC. His Clothing Designer bundle is available at PhilC.net.

At present DS does not have a cloth creation plugin. There is the built in player that gives you basic control of the cloth sim for the dynamic clothing item you are using. There is a more advanced Cloth Control plugin sold in the store but that is a separate purchase and far from cheap.

    Doomed? Nah.

  • GenX, Results unsatisfied, Base Figure V4 not even similar to Victoria 4.2

GenX was designed to be used alongside the morphs for the figure they were intended for. In the case of Victoria 4 morphs, you'll want the V4 shape for Genesis, in the case of M4 you'll want the Michael 4 shape. For K4 morphs there's the Basic Child morph. Genesis also has a navel morph which gives it a belly button, but it is not on by default. GenX is not a replacement for the original mesh. You need to work from the same base figure which is why you need the V4 morphs for best results.

Here's a quick render comparison between V4 Dublin and Genesis Dublin transferred with GenX. I've intentionally clothed them in the same outfit, hairstyle and textures. While there are certainly differences, I rather like the Genesis result, and feel it's very close to the original. Remember though, this result requires the Victoria 4 morph to be dialled in.

  • Nube Question on Mesh Manipulation
