  • PAID WORK: Hand Poses in Poser

    Hi Everyone,

I'm currently making a short film and I'm struggling with a bit of fiddly animation. The main character has Parkinson's disease and so his hands are to be constantly shaking. I'm just struggling with one scene. The character is meant to pick up a pill bottle, pour the pills out into his hand, drop one and put the rest in his mouth. This is all causing way more hassle than I originally intended.

I'm currently looking for an animator to help with this scene, I'm just looking for the hand & arm movements to be done. I'm using Poser for this short. I'm also currently using Michael 4 as the character and the poses should be transferable.

The pill model that I'm using currently is RX: http://www.daz3d.com/rx (Will be part of the payment)

The deadline is pretty tight and I'd need it within the next 2 weeks for what is about 15 - 20 seconds of animation.

Our budget is incredibly small and so the cheaper the better obviously however I don't want to undervalue the amount of work you'd be doing :)

If you're interested or would like to know more feel free to send me an email at: [email protected] or just reply to this forum. Never done a paid job before so a little unsure if I've missed any details but just feel free to ask :)

Thanks for reading! Hope you'd be able to help me out! :D

  • Dial A Face is Back! (Now featuring Genesis 3!)

    Edit: thank you, Rob!

And here's Dial A Face Zoltan for Michael 4. I started out with the idea of doing a Bela Lugosi like morph, and never really got close, but I made younger, middle aged and older versions of a face that sort of belonged to that "type". Basically the default, middle aged and older morphs all require Morphs++ and Morphus, but there is also a "lite" version of the default that only requires Morphs++.

No Michael 4 is a stand alone figure

Michael5 is Genesis and Michael 6 is Genesis 2

Thanks for the help. I figured that the morphing package would be useful for whatever I plan on doing so that has been added to my want list. Since I'm just starting do you think it would be better to go with Michael 6 or should I pick up the Michael 4 version. I realize that one is for genesis and the other is genesis two. I'm just not exactly sure which version of genesis to start with.

  • Michael 6

If I get the Michael 6 do I need to get the Genesis 2 morphing tools or are they a part of the avatar? From the description I came away with that impression but I'm wondering and if needed I'd rather get them at the same time. I tried the search engine and couldn't find an answer so here I am casting out a general call for help. Thanks in advance folks! I really love the program and sure wish I had known about this sooner. Mainly because there is so much content now that I'm pretty confused on what to get.

Do I go with the latest model and and build up my program/attire options. Or do I go with Michael 4, which has a huge amount of content but the flavor of the programing seems to be moving beyond that set. I guess you can see why I'm not sure what direction to initially pursue.

Ah!

  • Can't apply wardrobe to M4

The arrow with an x means that the item is set ot be unselectable in the viewport, so that you don't accidentally pick it (that's the model, but it isn't the rig that controls how the model bends before draping). The rig iss et to invisible because it is, it's a helper that deforms the clothing to approximate the pose of Michael 4 so that you can do static drapes on a posed figure (rather than an animated drape starting from the zero pose).

  • Can't apply wardrobe to M4

I've got dynamic clothing for Michael 4.
I can't apply it to Michael 4 as shown in the first screenshot.
I try to figure it out and I notice that in the scene tab, there is an X mark and invisible sign as shown in the second screenshot.
Please help what I should do to solve this problem. Thank you very much.

  • Does Size Really Matter? A Queston for the Modellers!

    Hello:

I could have posted this in the Hexagon, Carrara, or even DS forums, but it kind of applies to modelling and scene building in general more than any one application in specific. Or maybe it applies to DAZ characters and figures more than anything else.

I am doing some modelling in Blender and would like to know how to ensure that sizes are appropriately matched to the sizes of stuff in DAZ Studio and Carrara. Blender allows for precise scaling in either metric or imperial measurements, which I think is very powerful if used effectively to build props, vehicles, buildings, or even people or animal meshes.

    1. Do any of you who model take extra time to work to known measurements, either metric or imperial? If so, which?

    2. Do any of the "factory" characters from DAZ have known or published dimensions? If so, where can I get them? If "not yet," then how can I figure them?

    Prop Example:
I make a sword and I want it to be a meter in length, how can I ensure that it would "look like a meter" in a scene with Victoria 4, 5, or 6? Or with Michael 4, 5, or 6? Or with any of the Aikos or The Girl, etc. Assuming that the people in the scene haven't been resized, of course.

    Architectural Example:
I want to build a space station and ensure that the hatches and crawl ways are people-sized and that the docking bay can hold ships of certain sizes up to but not including capital-sized ships.

    Nerd Example:
David holds up a carpenter's square with a ruled edge along one side. Its markings look accurate against him and against the US dollar bill he's holding in his other hand. Currency has a known measurement and should compare and appear accurate against his measuring tool. I don't need "Nerd Accuracy" all the time, but when I need it, I don't want to be forced to do a lot of rejiggering in DAZ or Carrara.

I'm asking these questions now ultimately for my own ease-of-use but also because I am thinking of one day making products for sale, and I think this might be a useful feature to have.

Some people might answer one way or another depending on my work environment...so here's some background. For now, I'm sticking with Blender for mesh modelling and DAZ Studio for scene building when DAZ figures are used, but really Blender could do it all and animate too. At some point, I may try out Carrara for modelling and scene building, but I'm not strongly motivated to do so because Carrara's obsolete UI is difficult to read, whereas Blender's UI is easy to read and completely adjustable to boot. I also have both Bryce and Hexagon, but I rarely use them due to similar obsolescence issues. And Hex crashes more often than a narcoleptic sloth.

Can earlier versions be used with Stephanie? Just wondering if they are form specific or if any of the previous female avatars can also be used with 6. If previous version add-ons can be used that would eliminate a lot of the confusion I have. Can this file be used with that file, or are they incompatible...things like that. Otherwise it seems like you concentrate on Michael 4 and ignore/avoid anything beyond that. However, if the can all work together, I can see a lot more uses from it.

Michael and Victoria 4 both use older technology, which means they're far less flexible than the newer generation of figures in terms of how you can alter their appearance. Because the newer figures like Genesis and Genesis 2 use weight mapping, bends are much more natural and don't require a dozen fixes as you needed with Generation 4 figures.

Perhaps most notably, any clothing item designed for Genesis will automatically fit the figure regardless of what shapes you dial in. Some extreme morphs might require a few manual tweaks, but you could take a shirt or dress designed for an adult and fit it to a child without needing to do anything differently. Additionally morphs can be more easily combined, allowing you greater customization over the final result.

To take Genesis 1 as an example. The figure can be either male or female, a child or elderly. It initially comes with a female, male and a child morph all of which can be applied as necessary and in varying quantities. You could make a toddler by maximizing the child slider, or a teenager by applying a much smaller amount. You could give two siblings a familial appearance by mixing in morphs used by their 'parents' so that they actually look related.

Genesis 2 expands on that idea by giving you higher detail figures with better rigging and more gender specific anatomy. The catch here is that there are now two figures, one for male and one for female. Child morphs are a separate purchase, but give you more control than the basic child morph of Genesis 1. The gender split has left a few people divided, but has the advantage of making it easier to develop for the figures as well as giving you access to far greater levels of detail than we had before.

With the recent addition of 'high-density' morphs for the Genesis 2 figures, which give you the an incredible 1.3 million polygons of detail on your figures but the without the increased overhead while working on your scene, they've never been more intricate.

    Now, for some other advantages.

Genesis 1 is compatible with Victoria 4, Michael 4 and Kids 4 skins and clothing, so you can use a lot of your older content with the new characters. A few items with rigging are known to 'break' due to the autofit process, but there are handy workarounds for most of them.

Genesis 2 is compatible with Victoria 4, Michael 4, Victoria 5 and Michael 5 skins and clothing. The former two require additional purchases but in my experience work a lot better than they did for Genesis 1. Genesis 1 clothing fits almost picture perfectly on Genesis 2, and hairstyles are also compatible from the previous generation as well. It is also possible to fit generation 4 clothing without an additional purchase by first fitting the item to Genesis 1, essentially giving you access to K4 outfits.

With all that backwards compatibility, Genesis 2 is head and shoulders above the competition, giving it arguably the largest wardrobe selection of any figure to date. You're free to continue purchasing M4 outfits safe in the knowledge that they will work fine on the latest figures.

oh why call them shaders then? that's confusing

    Yeah, isn't it just? :)
The terminology involved does seem a touch ... irregular? But it does pay dividends in coming to grips with. Pretty much everything render-related is a shader (that's lights, materials, cameras ...). It is easier to think of camera as cameras, and lights as lights. For surfaces you tend to get materials and shaders. The main difference (in my mind at least) is that materials are dependent on the underlying surface zone names: thus is you have a table, say, selected which has surface zones called legs and top, and you double-click a Michael 4 skin texture you don't suddenly see Mickey 4 spread out across the table! Usually a material preset will only apply to the figure or prop for which it was made. In addition it will apply to a figure or prop that has the same names in it's surfaces (you CAN apply a V4 texture to M4, for example).
What is referred to as a shader is surface agnostic, and will apply to any surface selected - the only 'trick' being that the root item(s0 must also be selected in the scene tab (that one used to drive me bonkers to begin with!!!!)
