Is it possible to achieve such levels of realisticity simply with Daz Genesis 8 figure?Richard Haseltine said:

Well IRay seems to be resource hungry, so maybe a couple of thousands or millions of polygones make a difference for fitting scenes into the GPU, what do I know. But, as I've said already, I suspect the real reason is DAZ need to sell their character morphs and HD add-ons. We as end users are rather limited in what we can do. A poly count of 16000 is on the lower side, is it not, in any event?
Iray doesn't know about SubD, so the mesh has to be subdivided to the desired level before being sent across in any event.
I don't see what morphs and HD add-ons have to do with this - most if not all HD add-ons are at a higher division level than would be needed to match the old Victoria 4 etc. mesh (about 1, though that is slightly lower - but 2 would be a lot higher; most HD moprhs are level 3 to level 5).
Ok so maybe you understand a simple question? Why are DAZ figures made with a fairly low poly count?
It's not, by any means, an unusualy approach - it makes weighting simpler, and gives better end rsults as (as I said above) you don't get a great wodge of polygons being squeezed very close together when a joint bends. It also helps with the speed of the working view.
Tks!

Got a Current List of G8.1 Core Figures?Richard Haseltine said:

Can someone explain the difference between a core figure and a non core figure?
The core figures/characters are made by/for Daz and geenrally get their own themed content bundles, usually beyond what a PA character will get.
Also does that mean that they no longer do the original core figures like Victoria, Stephanie, Aiko etc?
No, but all the core figures, including V/M, are shapes for Genesis whichever.
Also is the expectation that clothing will come with custom morphs for all the core figures
No, not in general as far as I know.
Thanks Richard! I should have known you'd have the answers. So essentially a core figure is just one that Daz releases with a bundle.
There are probably too many to expect custom morphs in clothing then looking at the lists above.
Thanks again,
Pen

Got a Current List of G8.1 Core Figures?Quite a few. Coral and Zale, Clara and Hans, Jinx Jones and Wolfgang, Jazz, Jacquelyn, Jada, Brooke, Ebenezer, and of course Michael and Victoria. That's just off the top of my head, so there might be others I'm missing, like Cleopatra, which I just remembered while I was typing this.
edit: whoops, I missed that you said SINCE Senator Greaves.
The big announcement on September 21, 2022 - place your bets!Well, I have been slowing down on new character purchases for awhile. Now I absolutely will hold off until we know. I remember my shock when I woke one morning to find the release of G8 and Victoria 8.
All I ask if that is happening, is whomever creates the core characters is don't base them on real life people. Please.
Michael 8.1 is very distressing and I avoid him in my runtime like the plague.
The big announcement on September 21, 2022 - place your bets!Hmmm ... no one has said it yet ... (which does not mean I think it will really happen, but just in case you saw it here first).
Genesis 8.2 with a new Michael and Victoria Package that includes some slightly enhanced feature.
New Daz 3D 'Safe Search' FilterMaybe we can get a "Victorian Victoria" filter, which filters out ankles, in case anybody finds them too risque.
Sorry if I've triggered anybody by typing the word @nkle.
diffeomorphic g8.1 HD textures wrongIf you're exporting a true HD mesh then you need to export the HD uvs in the export dialog. Beware that HD geografts will not export the HD uvs, and this is a known limit. You said you export the HD figure without geografts though, so this shouldn't concern you. Also golden palace is not HD.
Anyway if you want to "attach" golden palace to the true HD mesh one quick way is to apply multires. Works fine here with Victoria 8.1 HD and golden palace.
steps:
- import the HD mesh with multires
- merge geografts
- apply multires
diffeomorphic g8.1 HD textures wrongMerge uv layers in easy import may not work fine in all cases. It is better to merge uvs by hand if you must, but in blender there's no need to merge uvs it is mainly intended for exporting to games.
Let me know if this works. Otherwise please describe the exact steps to reproduce the issue, possibly with pictures.
edit. p.s. Just tested Victoria 8.1 HD and she works fine here.
METAMIXER links?Fauvist said:
It's okay. Nobody bother answering. I'm going to just skip METAMIXER because I don't understand the product. The discussion threads are just people confused and complaining. I don't want products that make DAZ Studio more complicated. I want products that make it simpler, faster and easier to use.
It isn't too complicated. MetaMixer is a widget that allows you to mix Hd characters/ core characters via a series of sliders. You want that 50/50 mixture of Victoria 8.1's face and Hailey 8.1 with a touch of Freja 8., you just adjust sliders in the widget to get the look you want rather than dancing back and forth the shaping tab as you add and subtract small percentages. So it is a widget that lets you adjust facial features.

The "site which must not be named" and makes people's heads explode has a female robe that is dforce and kind of opens; it's sheer but could always be retextured.
I was thinking of the same site, but not the sheer robe by Matteo IO. The one that came to mind is "Bed Gown For Victoria 8" by Halcyone and faintblue.I'll wander over there and take a peek at what they have.

Help to find a special BlouseThe Fabricator is ancient (over 10 years old). That means that blouse is also at least as ancient. It is probably something for the original Genesis or Victoria 4. If you search the Daz Store, look for something with a SKU lower than the Fabricator.
How Do You Stop Daz Studio 4 Removing All Injections from All Saved Scenes?Hi, Richard.
I'm not massively technical (just a bricks and boards user) so sorry if I can't answer your question concisely. - The actual files fluctuate in terms of age, some of them are 10+ years old, some of them are new, but they were .Daz's that were loaded and saved in .Duf format to suit Daz Studio 4.
Powerloader is what DAZ used initially when I built the scene files years ago. Whenever this issue occurs, I re-install their injections for the modelsvia pose>DAZ's Victoria 4>Morph Injections in the library.
I do know that although they're digital files, Daz items tend to decay over time, so maybe they're just old saves struggling, but it doesn't make a lot of sense that all files together go through the same thing, that's what's throwing me.
[Released] Bone Minion for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Poses [Commercial]druc said:
I bought the Bone Minion for Generation 4 Poses Bundle. In the user manual is says "Apply the Bone Minion for the poses you want to transfer to this target figure type, e.g., Bone Minion Victoria 4 in order to apply Victoria 4 poses)." I only have Bone Minions for GF8, GF8.1, GM8 and GM8.1. Where do I find the other Bone Minions please?
What is showing in DIM is the Bone Minion for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Poses (i.e., convert G8 poses to other generations). It sounds like you wanted to buy the Bone Minion for Generation 4 Poses (convert V4/M4 poses to other generations) bundle.
