  • Using V4/G3F Morphs on a G8F

Please put your question in the post body and the title - Daz 3D Forums

Clones shapes, like the SY product, enable converting clothes and hairs (fitted items in general) from the cloned figures (Vistoria 4 and michael 4 here) to the figure with the clone (the Genesis 8 figures here). It is not, directly, a tool for morph transfer. The other products do transfer shapes, as far as possible, from one figure to another - note, however, that HD morphs will not transfer. The older Generation products can handle getting a Victoria 4 or Michael 4 morph onto a later figure, then newer tools can transfer that to Genesis 8 (the Genesis Generation X creator died before the release of Genssi 8 so there is no direct tool). https://www.daz3d.com/shop/

  • Using V4/G3F Morphs on a G8F

I've found some products pertaining to [Using V4/G3F Morphs on a G8F] this, but I'm unclear on the exact function of each product, and some of them seem like they do the same thing.

In general.  If I want to take a morph intended for Victoria 4 or Genesis 3 Female and apply it to a Genesis 8 Female, how many products do I need?  Can this be done with a single product, or do I need one product to get the morph file to work at all on a G8F, and another one to get it to work properly by morphing the G8F to be shaped like a V4/G3F?  (Or is neither of those descriptions accurate?)  Does converting a morph for V4 take more steps/products than for G3F?

In specifics.  For V4, is this all that I need, or does that only serve the second function in the latter scenario?  For G3F, is this all that I need, or does that only serve the first function in the latter scenario?  If it only serves the first function, then I haven't found anything to serve the second function for G3F.  Also, either way, I don't understand the difference between this product and this product.  Do they in fact do the same thing, and I would only ever need one of them?

Thanks in advance for the clarification.

    Hello,
when I render with victoria 9 hd, I get marks on the character. A bit like if the character had a garment with straps.

I work with daz 4.21.0.5 pro edition(64 bit) under windows 10.
    If you have an idea?

  • Force Feeding G9

    Philippi_Child said:

I've been around here a long time but under a different user name. I go all the way back to when Daz was known as Zygote. I've used every version of Victoria up to 8. As for DAZ Studio I've trusted every version with exception of 4.21 which I know is most likely to be silly. I'm just a plain hobbyist and don't want to fight the software I use.

G9 will be like every other new model released. It will have growing pains and will evolve. I remember when V4M and V4 was all that and the hubbub when Genesis was released. Funny the same arguments about G9 was also heard about the first Genesis release. Content for G9 will come the figure hasn't been out long enough for PAs to really get cranking on it. The same complaints happened when G8 came out and it took time for PAs to create content.

As far as PAs are concerned I have favorites and as far as content I buy what I like or will use. In all the years I've been a Daz customer I've only returned 3 things.

I've held off G9 for three reasons one, I'm unsure my computer can handle DS 4.21. It's not an old machine, i7, 32 gigs ram, 650watt PSU and a GTX 1060 6gig which has served me well and still kicking. I don't create massive complex, resource heavy renders so maybe this will not be an issue.

Then there is the mesh density of G9 being high or maybe I'm misinformed about it. Finally content I know I I've posted early in this thread about not holding off G9 but as an earlier poster stated that one item can draw you and hook you.....well one has. So now I'm seriously considering a move to G9.

Lol, I remember a time when I said they'd have to pry poser out of my cold dead hands I refused to use DS. Now I can't imagine not using it. I'm just skiddish about going to 4.21. I still have my copy of 4.11 (use 4.12) and I know I can use the beta version of 4.21 I just know why I'm being so slow to do so. Forgive me for rambling but I think in time G9 will get some loving.

...I'm currently running the 4.21.0.5 general  release on a system that is over a decade old with a Westemere architecture Xeon (released in March of 2010) and 24 GB of memory on an x58 P6T MB (PCIe 2.0) and it has been running fairly smoothly.  My GPU is one generation older - a Maxwell Titan-X.  Even still being on W7 Pro SP1 (which cuts me off from the latest 4.21 Beta as it requires an Nvidia driver update that no longer supports older versions of Windows)

Alas I face having to move to W11 not just because of the situation with Daz but other software (like 3DS Indie and Painter 2022)  as well as I learned thaat Chrome will no longer support W7 after January (which also means no more "zero day" fixes for malware threats)

This also means teh added expense (about 1,160$ including a W11 OEM) of having to get a new MB (that is TPM-2), CPU (Ryzen 5900X), and, memory (which currently is DDR3).as well as a new CPU cooler that can handle a Ryzen 5900X.  Not pleased with having to adopt the "Windows as a Service" model, but sadly it's the only act in town.

    A couple questions about templates:

    1. Why are there no breast adjustment morphs? There are morphs for many other body areas.
    2. Who is Nikolai9? He looks kind of chubby according to the morph. Why would he have morphs in the bodysuit template, but released characters like Michael and Victoria do not? Do they not need them, but he does because of his size?

Based on that name, and the time of year, my guess would be that Nikolai 9 is an upcoming St Nicholas (ie Santa Claus) character.

  • G8/G8.1F Eyes - The E.T. Factor?

    Hello all,

Let me preface this by saying I am very new to DS, having just picked up things around the time that G9 came out (I guess it was the campaign around G9 that lifted Daz to my radar).  There are a lot of people who comment how much they prefer G8 or G8.1 and I can see the appeal:

    • Straight forward clothing and hair application of most assets without the need to auto-fit
    • Expressions and poses are much more prevalent
    • The sheer volume of choices for models

However, I might be either missing something obvious or there is a distinct artist choice going on here, but I am finding there is a significant E.T. (Extra Terrestrial) look going on with a lot of the G8/G8.1 models.  In other words, large bulbous eyes, thin face, wide head.

Some examples (using the same lighting, hair and camera; please excuse some hair cap cracking):

    RY Xara

    SASE Sierra

    Jessa HD 8.1

    VYK Larissa

So far, from my limited exposure, the base DAZ Victoria model as well as characters by Mousso and HID3D seem to be better.

Compare these to any G9 and there really is no comparison.  Is the G9 just that much more advanced?

Is it just my distaste for specific artist looks, or is there something about G8/G8.1 structure around the eyes and face that tends in this direction?  Genuine, non-flame question here.  I really like the look of the G9 models, but am finding so many frustrations related to my points/benefits noted above.

    Thanks so much!

I have to reinstall some content from the original ZIPs.  Most is from the old Content Paradise site, which is no more.  I have the ZIP files in a folder.  Inside the ZIP files, everything is arranged in the Runtime structure of Victoria 4 and earlier.  I pointed DIM to the folder under the 'DOWNLOADS' tab but it is not recognizing anything as ready to install.  Some of the other files are from the old RDNA site, although some got transferred to Daz, other like the Unidwarf did not.  Still others are from Renderosity, and some are freebies from ShareCG.  A few are  the current Daz Studio 'content' structure, but most are Runtime.

As you can see, I have DIM pointed there for the downloads.

    Shimrian said:

Anyone have an image of the skin on a version of Michael or Male G9 with age turned up? I tried using the Casey skin on a female with horrible results and wondered how this skin looked on a male. Woud love to create an older male like Stellan Skarsgård or someone similar. I know I can't get the lines in fully yet without good G9 aging morphs, but still curious how it would look with what's currently available. I'd also still love to know what hair is used on the main promo image for Minerva 9 HD. If it was included in one of the bundles, I'd likely buy them, but I can't find it. :(

Also, thank you @sid for adding the images with and without the normal map. :)

Edit: Adding a comment for what @CHWT mentioned earlier on her body. I  don't see this as a body of a 30 year old. I definitely see aging around the chest area, neck, elbows and knees which seems appropriate for someone around 50-60 (I'm guessing that is the age range). Those are the first areas that start show aging (outside of the face) for someone that age that is still in shape. Maybe hands too? I'm not sure. I don't think turning 60 means you have to be out of shape.

Maybe my perception is jaded because when my mom was 60, my friends couldn't believe it and thought she was 45 at the most (yay, genetics). I still think she has appropriate body aging for someone under 60 (that is in shape). She is supposed to be mature, not ancient! Look at Christie Brinkley on sports illustrated at 67! While I'm sure those images were enhanced/brushed up, that's far older than this model is supposed to be. If you want saggy, you might want to wait for Mabel. :)

I think this character is great, I'm just hoping the skin looks as good on a male character as it does on a female character. I wish the artist added a sceenshot on how that would look. :)

Here's Michael with Minerva's skin. I like it a lot, except that the chest normals do the thing where there's an emphasis line under the breasts. They look like they'll be easy enough to edit out, but still.

I was also using a mix of Michael and Victoria's skins for one of my characters and immediately switched out Vicky's for Minerva's and dialed in some of her HD details. He finally looks more his age (also he's kind of a granny at heart--this pic is from a WIP of him sitting on his porch in a rocking chair knitting lol).

    Havos said:

I am curious to know why a HD character needs a normal map, apart from adding pores. I assume the large facial wrinkles and the like would be modelled into the HD morph, so should not need a normal map as well to further enhance these.

I see in the two images posted by sid that the one with the normals have deeper and more defined creases, why could that not have been done with HD alone?

Normals are mostly an option for adding the appearance of the HD details without having the character's subdivision cranked up to the level you'd need to show the sculpted version. So with both you have a lot of options for striking a reasonable balance between the strength of the effect and the resources you need for the scene. I actually use normals over HD details most of the time unless I have a character whose actual physical features are very sharp and angular, since I can often see a noticeable difference in that case. The character I posted above has very soft, rounded features for the most part so I'll probably combine Michael and Minerva's normals to get the details I want (unless/until an older guy comes out with normals I like better).

  • Looking for toon skin shader for Genesis 8

    Morning!
Ok so the Subsurface Toon Shaders are not actually Shaders they are currently material presets for 3Delight that are not working atm, they also require the Victoria 4 UVs for Genesis which are part of the Genesis Starter Essentials that comes free with Studio.
The Toon Girls Skin Pack and the DG Iray Toon Styles would work for you but you would need some "....UVs for Genesis 8" products to get your chosen pack to work.
Cayman Studios makes awesome UV sets for almost all of the older generation figures.
Redzstudios has a Genesis 3 Character UVs for Genesis 8 Female along with the Male Version.
Another option would be to check out your existing Shader Presets folder to see if you have any Plastic or Rubber type Shaders that you can use for a toon skin! There are tons of shaders in the Daz+ Store as well if you are a member, lots of different types of shaders that you can do pretty much anything with!

  • Looking for toon skin shader for Genesis 8

    Hello,

I want to cartoonize my G8 figures, but have not had a lot of luck with the skin tones. Either they are too flat or too real. I found these products:  Subsurface Toon Shaders (Genesis) - SKU:16297 ,Toon Girls Skin Pack(Genesis 2 Female, Genesis, Victoria 5) -  SKU:16935, and DG Iray Toon Styles for Genesis 2 - SKU:22092. Not sure any of these will work for later figures. Any hints on getting the cartoon like skin tone in G8?

Gia - Gina Carano - Gia 8 could easily be an updated/tweaked version without even referring to other people, but also pushing the character a bit further away from the original inspiration (e.g. body type is now quite removed from Gina's look in The Mandalorian).

Freja 8 - Ragnheiður Sara Sigmundsdóttir - If she's not the inspiration, then it's the most serendipidous character creation ever, LOL.

Victoria 8 - My understanding is the Victorias have always been inspired by the best parts of the most beautiful women e.g. supermodels and the like - so maybe the eyes of one, the nose of another, and lips from somebody else... then the artist works from this to turn the creation into a believable character - but equally, the same thing can result simply by artists starting from scratch and imagining theit ideal woman within the criteria DAZ asked for (girl next door, glamourous, elf-like etc).

That's a good one thanks. Also yeah seems like Victorias are all super models lol.

I've noticed his odd pecs as well. Is that the female texture, or is it odd geometry in the G9M chest area that some users have brought up?

Usually texture. The male nipples dial in, in a different place than females', so the texture has to match. It's why both Victoria 9 and Michael 9 have alternate chest mats.

It can even be seen with the G9 Base materials, if you don't have Victoria or Michael. Load a male one on a female, or vice versa. Dial in the correct nipples for the gender and it'll be off.

I always wonder why names are so important for many customers here... would it make any difference when Lilith would be looking like a Lilith but be called Pamela?

Jokes aside, the names represent what we can expect from that character, at least those that have been part of the Daz lineup since previous generations. You know what an Aiko or Eva character will be. IMHO, we never got a Lilith for G8, with the name or not. Closest thing we got was Tasha 8, but no, Lilith is not "the vamp goth girl". And, again imho, I believe it's simply because with each generation Daz seems to be trying to move away from what that character represented.

Also, another character I wish we had gotten for G8 was some Anneka, and I really thought they would make it after I saw Tempest 8.1, but eh, never got it.

Sort of? Victoria so far has been standard pageant/Bond girl with each generation, until 9 smashed the template. Josie got rebooted extra hard. Michael can be whatever he wants, because core male characters are so few that you could just say that he's "generic handsome mid-30s dude" and throw anyone in his place, so he wasn't a big change at all. I think, in the face of diversifying what Daz has to offer, if you get a Lilith, she's not what you're going to expect her to be.
