I have tried tweaking SSS Reflections Tint as susggested in the 4.9 release notes but I cannot get back to the same skin tones that I achieved in 4.8. Any ideas on how I can get clsoer to the mark like a formular I could use to help figure out what the best values are? Trial and error is wearing really thin. Really hoping there is a better way to figure it out! See the image for the differences. Thanks!

Quick question... You show in the image DS 4.9 (no material changes).  Does that mean that its the same refelectance tint as 4.8? Just looking to clarify.

Yes, which is why it is paler/cooler.

  • I'm experiencing the same thing with my Victoria 7 in 4.9  sad , still looking for a good solution as well.

I thought DAZ updated the materials for V7? Have you checked for updates?

  • Yes I have , the material for V7 was released at the same day as DS 4.9 , it is called 'Iray Legacy'  which has the SSS tint of the 4.8 one  0.84 / 1 / 1 like your picture on the far right. After the rendering , I also have the same result as your Teen Josie 7 too when using the Iray  legacy mat (4.8)  (pic on the far right)   and if I use her default 4.9 skin , her skin will appear so brown. Not to mention that the her make ups are all messed up  , red lip stick turns into crimson - almost black color for both setting etc.   First I thought that the 'Iray legacy' material will make her look just like she was back in 4.8 but clearly , it didnt.

According to the link you 've  posted.

'The NVIDIA Iray  update provides fixes to the implementation of Sub Surface Scattering (SSS) and affects materials that make “Translucency Weight” active (not set to 0). This makes skin tones appear more blue than they do in previous versions.'

Since Iray engine has been updated in 4.9  , I dont know why they gave Victoria7  the  'Iray legacy material' which has the same setting as in 4.8  when they knew that the skin is gonna turn out blue after rendering if using that material frown.

Sorry, thought the answer might be different. What you might try: reduce the translucency wgt, brighten the translucency color if there is one. What happens if you set the Reflectance Tint to just white? or 0.8,0.8,0.8?

I actually think the 4.9 one looks better... I think the 4.8 looks jaundiced.

The contrast is better in the 4.8 render though -- e.g. the ips stand out more. I have several renders from 4.8 and she "pops" in them, but looks too flat tone wise in the 4.9 renders. Using 1,1,1 does look a bit better though -- good idea. Guess I will try to modify the lips separately and see if that gets someof that "pop" back. Thanks for the tips!

Probably for DS 4.8 users snce I think the content is shared. I opened a support ticket on this, though no repsonse yet. sad

The new V7 material (Victoria 7 All MAT) has different SSS values (1.00 .88 .69). I suspect the "Legacy MAT" is the 4.8 Mat for those that still are on 4.8. Remember that DIM users will see the update for V7 no matter which Studio version they use.

Here's a no makeup V7 with the new MAT. Note that it is a 30% render w/ no other adjustments.
